...1. What is business research? Why should there be any question about the definition of research? Business research is described as a planned out inquiry that give results that guides managers in making decisions. In other words, “it is a process of planning, acquiring, analyzing and disseminating relevant data, information and insights to decision makers in ways that mobilize the organization to take appropriate actions that, in turn, maximize performance”. Basically, it is the process of finding information, analyzing it and finding a possible solution that can make things better. It is the process that business managers use to solve issues that may occur in day to day business procedures. There should be questions on the definition of research because research is not a standard that is done the same for everyone. It all depends on the person that is doing the research. Some people like to take specific steps and planning to ensure they are getting all the information before they make a decision. Others like to go straight to where they know they can get some information and make a decision on what they find. Research has to be defined so that everyone working on the same research understands what is being referred to when the word research is being used. (Cited: Cooper & Schindler, 2011) 2. Distinguish between an explanatory and predictive research study. Explanatory research study is research conducted for a problem that has not been clearly defined. It...

My parents have always told me that nothing is difficult unless you try it and I never believed them until today. When I started my assignment I was scared of reading 3 big case studies and I always use to ask myself , how am I going to read all through this pages and write notes on this. The most difficult part was to summarize it only 500 word each case study which had a lot of vital information. But eventually I did it. I tried my best to cover all the important points. I have always been very inquisitive about the word strategies. It can be used in many things like game, work, business and many more. The word strategy is to make a plan before you implement, and one has to make a plan before doing anything. Spontaneous plan do not work every time, so to be on a safer side most of the people plan it. And today...

...president of BBC design group, Emil Vicale, had built a successful business using rapid prototyping technology to build wax or plastic models of his clients’ designs. However, this technology would also prove to be innovative in another endeavor, the action-figure doll. Vicale had used this technology for personal enjoyment by creating dolls resembling heroes of September 11, 2001. The stir the dolls on his desk created had inspired Vicale to look further into the possibility of expanding his recently purchased e-commerce toy company. The following information will provide insight into the research that was done to create a successful action-figure business by HeroBuilders.com. However, additional research could have been done to prepare for unexpected media attention and to create new products that would meet customer needs. Background Review Shortly after September 11, 2001, Vicale finalized the purchase of ToyBuilders.com, an e-commerce toy company. This created an opportunity for using rapid prototyping technology to build dolls. Vicale had realized the potential for success after observing the interest his friends and family expressed for the personal heroes he had on his desk. It was then necessary for Vicale to investigate the potential for profitability in the action-figure business. Vicale researched the companies already in the field, and also the retail environment for the dolls. His research sparked his interest further, and he believed creating dolls that...

...their research required several steps in the process to determine the correct population of users to poll. The process began with a phone questionnaire that was targeted to the Penton readership from a very large database. From there, Penton sent a pretest, this time by mail, to another user group. The final study was then sent to 4,000 decision makers from the Penton database (Cooper & Schindler, 2011). There are many strengths to the approach that Penton used for this study. To begin, the level of confidence was 95% with +/-4 percent for a margin of error. This is actually common when conducting a sampling plan (2011). Penton achieved this probability determining that 676 of the 710 respondents were the decision makers of their respective organizations. These individuals were also weighted according to the cell that they were assigned. There were 42 cells representing seven industries by six job titles, which allows Penton to see which individuals could be identified as the most desirable participant to the study. This is an effective method for identifying the participants, because Penton now knows who the decision makers are within the organizations they work for. If the respondents were allowed to be random, the data would not be true to the goal of the research, which aims to influence and accommodate their needs. Another strength of this study is the attribute-sampling plan. Penton clearly defined what the problem was, how they were going to research the...

...Research Design The study will use Focus Group Discussion as its research design. A focus group is a group of people, led by a trained moderator, who meets by 90 minutes to 2 hours. The facilitator uses or moderator uses group dynamics principles to focus or guide the group in an exchange of ideas, feelings, and experiences on a specific topic. The data gathered after the discussion can be used in evaluating particular issues. FGD data can be used to evaluating particular issues. The researchers chose Focus Group Discussion as a medium of the research as the face to face involvement of qualified participants may be of help to gather data on how scholarships are implemented by other learning institutions. FGD will give the researcher ideas on how to analyze the research problem. The discussion may be of help to explore the meanings of survey findings that cannot be explained statistically. Construct Validity Construct Validity is an assessment of how well ideas theories are translated into actual programs or measures. The researchers aim to gather opinion from AGSB Students on how features of SYLFF and Star Scholars can be adopted by AGSB. Construct Validity can be achieved by formulating questions that can be used in gathering information from the respondents through FGD. The following questions will be asked to the participants for the FGD: 1. The researcher would like to propose a scholarship program which adopts some of the features of Star Scholars of...
