Righteousness vs. Wickedness: Foil of Macbeth and Banquo
At the beginning of Shakespeare's great tragedy Macbeth, both Macbeth and Banquo are introduced to the audience as having similar characters; both with an initial notion of being brave and noble. As the plot began to unravel, one of the two took a turn for the worse. Throughout the play, Macbeth turns wicked while Banquo stay divine. Shakespeare shapes Banquo into the foil of Macbeth. Whether it be the prophecy given by the witches, the power of ruling Scotland, or the ghost of Banquo, the contrast of the two characters determine the fate of the story. In Act I Scene III, Macbeth and Banquo have an encounter with the witches, where
