Corvette Stingray Marketing Campaign Final

...However, it was not just the jobs and spending that were rocking, but what products were being purchased. The economy was no longer looking for necessities to live on, but products to serve an entirely new thought: enjoyment. With this new rise in personal use for enjoyment, automotive companies seized the opportunities and began building vehicles that were strong, fast, and beautifully. Chevrolet, Ford, and Dodge were vying for the number one muscle car. Out of this battle eventually came the Charger, Challenger, Mustang, and Camaro (just to name a few). However, even these vehicles could not compete with the Chevrolet Corvette. The Vette came out in 1953, the first of its kind. This car had it all: power, beauty, speed, and the price tag. The first 300 were actually hand-made, and made a splash to the American public and their new found wealth (Vettemasters.com, 2014). Along with the car, came one of the most illustrious advertising campaigns ever utilizing paper ads, radio, and even commercials. The ladder companies took years to come out with a comparable, but even those never made it to the stage the Vette has owned for the next four decades. Today, the Vette is still ahead of the American automotive curve; however, is beginning to fall behind its newest rivals from Europe and Asia. This car has the entire American history in its rearview mirror, and needs to decide where to go from here. Currently, it is still the fastest, strongest, and most agile production car for...

...Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, admits that she often finds herself in the kitchen reading soup-can labels—or anything—in order to prolong the moments before taking pen in hand. John C. Calhoun, vice president under Andrew Jackson, insisted he had to plow his fields before he could write, and Joseph Conrad, author of Lord Jim and other novels, is said to have cried on occasion from the sheer dread of sitting down to compose his stories. To spare you as much hand-wringing as possible, this chapter presents some practical suggestions on how to begin writing your short essay. Although all writers must find the methods that work best for them, you may find some of the following ideas helpful. But no matter how you actually begin putting words on paper, it is absolutely essential to maintain two basic ideas concerning your writing task. Before you write a single sentence, you should always remind yourself that 1. You have some valuable ideas to tell your reader, and 2. More than anything, you want to communicate those ideas to your reader. These reminders may seem obvious to you, but without a solid commitment to your own opinions as well as to your reader, your prose will be lifeless and boring. ...Moore−Parker: Critical Thinking, Ninth Edition 5. Persuasion Through Rhetoric: Common Devices and Techniques Text © The McGraw−Hill Companies, 2009 Chapter Persuasion Through Rhetoric 5 It’s just the way things are: Images and impressions tend to sell more products than good arguments do. At least some of the images are fun. Common Devices and Techniques W hen the military uses the phrase “self-injurious behavior incidents” regarding detainees at Guantánamo Bay, it means what most of us call “attempted suicides.” In fact, when the word “detainees” is used, it means what most of us call “prisoners.” “Waterboarding” sounds at first like something you’d expect to see young people doing on a California beach, not a torture technique that involves forced simulated drowning. Less remarkable, perhaps, but possibly more relevant for most of us, we’ve heard the term “downsized” used when someone is fired or laid off. “Ethnic cleansing” covers everything from deportation to genocide. What we have to say may be important, but the words we choose to say it with can be equally important. The examples just given are cases of a certain type of linguistic coercion—an attempt to get us to adopt a particular attitude toward a subject that, if described differently, would seem less attractive to us. Words have tremendous persuasive power, or what we have called their rhetorical force or emotive meaning—their power to express and elicit images, feelings, and emotional...

Perhaps that’s why. The first and still the only in the clergy association. Or maybe it is because of where she is from. No one from San Francisco had come to live here before. Occasionally an outsider moved to this town, in the northern tier of the state, but the flow is almost always in the other direction, away from, not into. And the few that do come to stay aren’t from California, a place that to this day, decades after it had long faded, is believed to be an incubator for radical lifestyles and subversive politics.   4   Arthur  Dobrin     Or perhaps her name—Ailanthus—a strange one, where here, if you are named after flora it is Rose or Violet or another sweet smelling flower that could be grown in the garden. It must be a name given to her by a hippie mother, a band given to bestowing peculiar names on their children. No one knows of a girl being named after a tree. They never heard of an ailanthus...
