During the Wildfire Project, there were five experienced scientists chosen to do work on an alien virus. Dr. Mark Hall was the least qualified out of the other five scientists to be part of the Wildfire program and was only chosen because the government wanted an unmarried surgeon. He was known as a profound and unpredictable surgeon; he specialized in understanding human electrolytes, which made him seem like a better candidate for the job. When he agreed to the Wildfire project, he did not believe anything would come of it and never read the files that would have kept him up to date on the project. The Andromeda Strain would be considered living because is had cells, it needs energy, it responds to the environment, and it reproduces. William Marcus

The Andromeda Strain could not be a virus because it does not have any amino acids, which make proteins. Viruses are only composed of proteins.

One Governmental body that is chartered to control earthbound epidemics is the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Two governmental agencies that would work together against an extraterrestrial epidemic would be the National Security Administration (NSA) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
