Aldershot is a town in Rushmoor district of Hampshire, England and in 1972, was targeted by the IRA. The IRA bomb killed five women and an army Priest on the 16th Parachute Brigade Headquarters in Aldershot . It was known that a massive car bomb exploded at lunchtime in the car park outside the office killing the five female kitchen staff and the Priest, it also injured 19 others. The IRA spokesmen in Dublin said the attack was “the first in a series of operations aimed at British Headquarters of regiments serving Northern Ireland” . It was the first wave of revenge bombings against army targets on the mainland. Noel Jenkinson was jailed over the bombing and later died in prison. The IRA’s explanation of the attack was in revenge for the events
