William Cooper's Town Summary

Submitted By
Words 413
Pages 2
Alan Taylor uses the life of William Cooper, a man from humble beginning who rose to become a prosperous land speculator and a member of the U.S. Congress, to depict the social, political, and economic transformations that occurred on the frontier of the early American Republic. Throughout the entire book, Alan proves that what is happening in William’s life is a reflection of the transition happening in the frontier communities, in terms of politics and society. In the book, William Cooper’s Town: Power and Persuasion on the Frontier of the Early American Republic, Alan Taylor argues that the American Revolution created opportunities for new men to make money and to build up a name for themselves in the new republic. ...the systems that ran much of the economy was the putting out system. According to Alexandre Frederic (the Duke of La Rochefoucauld) in one of his writings, the putting out system was family run and a manual production which occurred in the home, once the product was completed, it was then prepared for trading which the family was also in charge of (Document 5, 153-154). The putting out system was a system that required the whole family to work together and do their jobs to reach a desired outcome. With the revolution, however, not only was the whole family not needed, but fewer people were required. The system was enhanced with machines moving the work from the countryside to cities, leaving many without work and in poverty. Pre-industrial town guilds experienced changes as well, this can be seen through The Prussian Wool Industry Guild regulations of 1797. The guild’s rules showed that before the Industrial Revolution the guideline stated: who could sell to who, and or where someone could or could not sell (Document 4, 151-153). These regulations helped guarantee order and quality; but was short lived. With all the machinery in development, jobs began to locate to factories, leaving many without work and a familiar labor system. The new labor system established regulations that involved strict and submissive protocol. Those who could obtain work found themselves in a new structure of strictness and obedience. This was very apparent during the mid 19th century in Berlin, with...

...MINI COOPER: MARKETING STRATEGY, DIGITAL MARKETING, BRAND & ETHICS 10.2478/cris-2013-0005 MINI COOPER: MARKETING STRATEGY, DIGITAL MARKETING, BRAND & ETHICS MARIIA MOISEIEVA The report is designed to examine, analyse, and evaluate where appropriately the current Mini Cooper’s marketing strategy, its digital marketing initiative, branding, and the importance of ethical values in Mini Cooper as well as other organisations. That is important for understanding of the practical applications of marketing is achieved by applying theory to them. It is determined that Mini’s marketing strategy has shifted in terms of targeting and brand positioning. As previously it was an affordable iconic British car, now it has become a cool luxury car dominantly for a young segment. Its international marketing strategy is differentiated in a way that a brand is built up on the historical iconic image of Mini for the UK and associated market, but it is not associated with any values in the past for the US customers. Overall, Mini’s marketing strategy is considered to be innovative, creative, and sometimes ‘silly’, which is of great value for its young energetic target audience. Digital marketing initiative also corresponds to the latest IT and social trends worldwide by ‘digitalising’ marketing initiatives and active social networking with the consumers. Brand is a core competence and ‘everything’ for Mini. Marketing is centered on its brand, not vice versa. An analysis of the Mini’s strategy...

Ben Franklin

...THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF BENJAMIN FRANKLIN WITH INTRODUCTION AND NOTES EDITED BY CHARLES W ELIOT LLD P F COLLIER & SON COMPANY, NEW YORK (1909) INTRODUCTORY NOTE BENJAMIN FRANKLIN was born in Milk Street, Boston, on January 6, 1706. His father, Josiah Franklin, was a tallow chandler who married twice, and of his seventeen children Benjamin was the youngest son. His schooling ended at ten, and at twelve he was bound apprentice to his brother James, a printer, who published the "New England Courant." To this journal he became a contributor, and later was for a time its nominal editor. But the brothers quarreled, and Benjamin ran away, going first to New York, and thence to Philadelphia, where he arrived in October, 1723. He soon obtained work as a printer, but after a few months he was induced by Governor Keith to go to London, where, finding Keith's promises empty, he again worked as a compositor till he was brought back to Philadelphia by a merchant named Denman, who gave him a position in his business. On Denman's death he returned to his former trade, and shortly set up a printing house of his own from which he published "The Pennsylvania Gazette," to which he contributed many essays, and which he made a medium for agitating a variety of local reforms. In 1732 he began to issue his famous "Poor Richard's Almanac" for the enrichment of which he borrowed or composed those pithy utterances of worldly wisdom which are the 1 basis of a large part of his popular reputation...

Bloodlines of the Illuminati

...Bloodlines of Illuminati by: Fritz Springmeier, 1995 Introduction: I am pleased & honored to present this book to those in the world who love the truth. This is a book for lovers of the Truth. This is a book for those who are already familiar with my past writings. An Illuminati Grand Master once said that the world is a stage and we are all actors. Of course this was not an original thought, but it certainly is a way of describing the Illuminati view of how the world works. The people of the world are an audience to which the Illuminati entertain with propaganda. Just one of the thousands of recent examples of this type of acting done for the public was President Bill Clinton’s 1995 State of the Union address. The speech was designed to push all of the warm fuzzy buttons of his listening audience that he could. All the green lights for acceptance were systematically pushed by the President’s speech with the help of a controlled congressional audience. The truth on the other hand doesn’t always tickle the ear and warm the ego of its listeners. The light of truth in this book will be too bright for some people who will want to return to the safe comfort of their darkness. I am not a conspiracy theorist. I deal with real facts, not theory. Some of the people I write about, I have met. Some of the people I expose are alive and very dangerous. The darkness has never liked the light. Yet, many of the secrets of the Illuminati are locked up tightly simply because secrecy is a way...

As such, it bridges economic theory and economics in practice.[2] It draws heavily from quantitative techniques such as regression analysis, correlation and calculus.[3] If there is a unifying theme that runs through most of managerial economics, it is the attempt to optimize business decisions given the firm's objectives and given constraints imposed by...
