Manslaughter is the killing of someone without malice or harsh intentions. In William Goldberg’s Lord of the Flies, the meaning of manslaughter is questioned. When a group of boys get stranded on an island, their sanity is tested time and time again. They must kill to survive, but they take it too far when they start seeing things and mistake one of their own as a monster and brutally kill him, not realizing that it was one of them until it was too late. Without the knowledge that it was an actual human being that they killed, they should not be held responsible for his death.
