...Constructive Speech What determines the outcome of someone’s life? Is it the choices they make or is it the situations they have been placed into? Good morning Mrs.Gittins, mediator, scores, my opponents, my colleague and audience. My partner and I agree on the fact that Willie is most definitely not to blame for the situation he has ended up in. In Willy’s case the outcome of his life is based on the situations he was placed into. We believe this is due to the fact that during his childhood years a father figure was not present. Also, Willy’s wife Linda Lowman clearly understood that her husband was mentally unstable but she decided to turn a blind eye and deny just like the rest of society and pretend as if everything were okay. In the play, Willie’s character is a tragic hero and an unconscious victim. He sees the world around him changing and his own inability to change with it seals his fate. The audience learns that Willie strongly believes that success is not what you know, but who you know and how well you are liked. At one point in time Willie was a very successful salesman, when Howard’s father ran the company. Many promises were made between Willie and Howard’s father across that desk in the office. Despite the fact that Willie worked hard his entire life, and was rewarded very little, the promises that he believed in for all his years of work and strived towards fell through. Now that he is old and not able to keep up at the pace he used to Howard thinks...

...This paper aims to discuss the technical education market centered on polytechnic education which is involved in community development work. A Polytechnic is a higher education technical institution. There are various types of polytechnics in India- Government polytechnics, Government aided polytechnics, private polytechnics, women’s polytechnics etc. Polytechnic education aims at offering three years diploma courses in engineering and vocational fields. The students of a Polytechnic are adept in handling practical oriented tasks and exhibit supervisory skills. A case study of NRAM Polytechnic is taken into consideration as it enjoys the status of a rural polytechnic and is also involved in the scheme of community development through polytechnics which is an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt of India. The HRD minister, Kapil Sibal has asserted that the Government will never allow profiteering in education that would go as dividends to the shareholders. The scheme of community development through polytechnics is an on-going scheme. AICTE approved polytechnics are considered to be a viable vehicle for providing the intended services. The rationale for choosing AICTE approved Polytechnics for the implementation of Scheme of Community Development through Polytechnics is based on the fact that AICTE approved Polytechnics are equipped with resources: i. Polytechnics are equipped with physical facilities in the form of buildings, lecture halls, laboratories...

...Figure 1: Shukongojin, 12th/14th century Japan. It is composed of wood with traces of polychromy. The sculpture is from Kate S. Buckingham Endowment, 1958. The information is from the Art Institute of Chicago. The image is taken from a sketch over a photograph from an LG camera phone. Lester Leong ASST/AH 219 February 9, 2013 Visual Analysis: Shukongojin The Art Institute’s Shukongojin is a Japanese free standing wooden sculpture that is 91 cm tall with traces of red pigment, and was created approximately during the 12th-14th century. Shukongojin is also known as the Thunderbolt Deity that has the power to pierce ignorance with wisdom and defeat evil. The deity is a protector of Buddhist law and is usually placed at gateways of Buddhist temples. The Art Institute created a perfect setting for the sculpture. It was placed on top of a pedestal under a soft yellow light, which gave it a divine appearance. Complimented with the solemn silence at the time and other Buddhist deities on pedestals nearby, the experience was similar to that of a sacred temple. Shukongojin is composed of shapes and direction of the lines that give the sculpture a menacing appearance. The sculpture has three distinct shapes: the head, right arm, and base. The head’s primary noticeable feature is the hair. The hair has a general angular shape that appears like a cone composed of smaller cones. Also the hair has a wavy style which gives it a flame like image. The heads’ secondary feature...

...Market Based Management® Philosophy and Principles Market Based Management® is a value system and framework for action that encourages employees to think and act like principled entrepreneurs. (The Principled Entrepreneur, 2007) The MBM philosophy was (and continues to be) developed by Charles Koch, chairman and CEO of Koch Industries. It is used by all Koch companies such as STAINMASTER® carpet, LYCRA® spandex, Quilted Northern® tissue, and Dixie® cups. Charles Koch credits the success of Koch Industries, one of the world’s largest privately held companies, to the application of this unique way of doing business. (Koch C. , 2007) MBM is a large set of ever-evolving “mental models” that are organized by, and interpreted through, a framework of five interdependent and mutually reinforcing dimensions: vision, virtue and talents, knowledge processes, decision rights and incentives. The MBM Guiding Principles, which are a model within the virtue and talents dimension, form the MBM culture. (Tapscott, 2007) This material is used by leaders and employees of Koch companies to get results. Market Based Management® (MBM) is rooted in the Science of Human Action (Mises, 1949), and is defined by five dimensions: * Vision – determining where and how the organization can create the greatest long –term value * Virtue and Talents – helping ensure that people with the right values, skills and capabilities are hired, retained and developed * Knowledge Processes – creating, acquiring...
