...Laptop PC and I have had it for a few years now. Personally I love it and I think the operating system is great. Reading chapter 8 in the textbook has helped me understand my operating system more and my laptop more as a whole. The operating system that I have on my laptop is Windows 7 Professional. Along with Windows 7 Professional, Service pack 1 is also on the computer. There is a 500 GB hard drive and also 14.7 G of disk space. It was interesting seeing that the processor installed on the laptop is called AMD E - 350 Processor 1.60 GHz. I did not think that processors would have unique labelings, I figured they would just have simple names. The RAM amount is 4.00 GB and the computer cannot be updated to the latest version. Reading about the many features of Windows 7 Professional was a surprise because I did not notice all of them until I did some research. Windows 7 Professional has an encrypting file system that enables encrypting of files and folders directly from Windows explorer. Another great feature is that the whole computer or certain files, folders, etc can be backed up on DVDs, CDs, and networks along. The computer, files, folders, etc can also be restored from the DVDs, CDs, and networks. There is also a memory support feature that allows 192 GB of physical memory to be supported. Along with the other features, Windows 7 Professional has location aware printing. This means that your computer can search for near printers and will connect and print...

...of the spiral approach, software development process follows the phase-wise linear approach. At the end of first iteration, the customer evaluates the software and provides the feedback. Based on the feedback, software development process enters into the next iteration and subsequently follows the linear approach to implement the feedback suggested by the customer. The process of iteration continues throughout the life of the software. An example of the spiral model is the evolution of Microsoft Windows Operating system from Windows 3.1 to windows 2003. We may refer to Microsoft windows 3.1 Operating System as the first iteration in the spiral approach. The product was released and evaluated by the customers, which include the market large. After getting the feedback from customers about the windows 3.1, Microsoft planned to develop a new version of windows operating system. Windows’95 was released with the enhancement and graphical flexibility. Similarly, other versions of windows operating system were released. Spiral Approach Phases 1. Customer Communication: Includes understanding the system requirements by continuous communication between the customer and the system analyst. 2. Planning: Includes estimating Schedule, cost, and resource for the iteration. 3. Risk Analysis: includes identifying, estimating, and monitoring technical and management risks, such as schedule slippage and cost overrun. 4. Engineering: Includes requirement gathering and design of...

...Assignment 1: Preparing a Company-Wide Migration to Windows 8 George Kelly Professor Raymond Schafer Administering Desktop Clients June 11, 2015 I would like to take this time to thank Chief Financial Officer and the Chief Information Officer for taking some time in their busy operation schedule to listen to my report. This report was created to address the concerns they have with the possibility of migrating from Windows 7 to the Windows 8 operating system for their company. This proposed change will affect the entire company and how it operates on a day to day basis. The Company Crescent Manufacturing is known as a luxury leader in the world of crafted home furnishings. The company is comprised of three different locations. First there is the Texas division that has 250 employees and this is structured as the corporate headquarters. ...Literacy Windows 8 vs. Windows 7 In this paper I will be comparing and contrasting Windows 8 and Windows 7. Windows 8 is latest Microsoft operating system that has been installed on all the new Windows computers since the year 2012. The main differences between Windows 8 and Windows 7 are: When you log in to Windows 8, the first screen you see is the new ‘Start Screen’, also known as ‘Metro’. It still has the familiar ‘Desktop’ as well but we’ll come to that in a minute. Instead of Icons, the new Start screen has ‘Tiles’. You click these to open your ‘Apps’ (short for Applications). If you can’t find a particular tile, do a right mouse click in the space at the bottom of the screen and click All Apps .In Windows 8 we can use apps and programs. Apps open full screen in Metro; programs open on the Desktop just as they did in Windows 7. Additional apps can be downloaded from the Windows Store. Windows 8 comes with an anti virus program called ‘Defender’. Apps don’t have to be closed by clicking a X in the corner – instead, just press the Windows key on your keyboard to return to the Start Screen. Optionally, an app can be closed by dragging it down from the top of the screen with your mouse, with the left button held down – or with your finger if you are using a touchscreen. Windows 8 doesn’t have a Start Menu. Instead, it has a ‘Charms Bar’ (see right) which is where you go to shut down and use other tools such as ‘Search’. Whereas in Windows 7 you might have used Windows Live...

Allowing them to: • Present sales pitch to the customer • Analyze sales performance • Track Sales in real time • Manage Sales Force • Manage Accounts • Conduct training • Keep our data secure • Order equipment direct to the market We must decide which OS best fits our needs. We have researched in depth the three leading operating systems on the market. Apple IOS, Android Jelly Bean, and Microsoft Windows 8.1. While each operating system had great advantages and disadvantages we found the following to be true: Microsoft Windows 8.1 is the clear winner. I recommend we provide each Sales Manager with a phone and tablet computer running the Windows 8.1 operating system by Microsoft. It will give them everything they need, a laptop, tablet and phone that will work seamlessly together. 1. I recommend the first step we take is to research the best devise to operate the Windows 8.1 operating system. In terms of processing speed, battery life, durability and memory ...

...NT1230 The workstations will require Windows 7 Professional to provide the necessary features needed to satisfy the small businesses needs. Reason number one is the need for backing up the workstations data. With Windows 7 Professional you can backup to the local hard drive (HDD), a DVD, or the network. With home editions you can only backup to the local HDD or to a DVD. With Professional workstations can also be scheduled to automatically backup to the server, which cannot be done with the home versions. The second reason is the ability to encrypt important files. With encryption, even if someone were to take your files, they would not be able to view them without the encryption key. The final reason is that you cannot connect to the server without Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate. Professional and above are the only versions of Windows 7 capable of connecting to a domain server. Professional is the least costly of the editions that will provide the necessary features, therefore the most cost efficient. A clean install using a migration will be required to upgrade. This is because this is the only way to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. This leaves you with two options: migrate your files to Windows 7 from XP using the built in feature or make sure all files are backed up to the server before the installation. With a migration, all user data and preferences are transferred eliminating the need to manually change the settings on each workstation. Needless to say,...

...Running head: UNIX vs. MS vs. MAC 1 CIS-155 Final - UNIX vs. MS vs. MAC UNIX vs. MS vs. MAC 2 Abstract This paper will explore the history of UNIX, Microsoft (MS), and Macintosh (MAC) operating systems. Not only will I discuss the history of these systems, but I will also dive into the pros and cons of each. The benefits of each over its rivals will also be discussed. Keywords: open source, UNIX, Windows, UNIX vs. MS vs. MAC 3 The topic of what operating system is best has been a long and heated one. But, in the long run, UNIX will beat its rivals in most categories hands down. As the reader will see throughout this paper, undisputed evidence will be presented that will detail exactly how UNIX based operating systems are superior. Operating systems (OS‘s) are a means for users to communicate with the computer. Each OS provides a set of commands for directing the operation of the computer. Without these operating systems to help as interfaces, each user would have to learn the command syntax, which can be very difficult. These operating systems can be menu-driven, which provides a set of menus and lets users choose desired functions from then, or they can be icon-driven, known as a graphical user interface (GUI). GUIs are very common these days and with them, users can choose an icon, usually with a mouse, to activate...
