Windows 7 Upgrade Technical Information

The upgrade from windows XP to Windows 7 is one that can be done fairly easily. The system requirements are as follows. * 1 gigahertz or faster 32-bit or 64-bit processor * 1 gigabyte of 32-bit ram or 2 GB of 64-bit ram * 16 GB of free hard drive space * Directx 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver.
The CHS computer has a processor that can handle the change as it clocks at 1.8Ghz and only 1Ghz is needed. One concern is the system memory. The CHS computer has only 512 to 1GB of memory, I would recommend expanding it to 4GB but no less than 2GB to not hinder performance. Another main concern with the change would be device and software compatibility, something that is always a concern when changing operating systems. One way to check compatibility is to visit the compatibility center found at Microsoft.com. You can simply enter the name of your device or software in the search bar and it will give you the compatibility results. If we are installing Windows 7 professional then there is another download that can help with compatibility. Windows XP mode is a download that allows you to run older windows XP software on your Windows 7 PC. The CHS computer does not state what type of graphics card it has, this could also be an issue. Staff and user training can also be an issue when switching operating systems. Classes should be scheduled to go over basic use of the new operating system or a user manual should be provided with the OS. There are many new features with Windows 7 and the proper training should be provided for the use of these features. Inadequate training can cause issues with navigation and performance on the PC. I believe that the CHS computer can handle the change with a couple minor upgrades, such as memory.

System Setup

...System Setup Dez Ale Instruction Manual New System Setup Dez Ale Version 2.8 Version 2.8 Introduction BA Consulting has established itself as a leader in information technology, servicing the airline and financial industry in a short period of 9 years. The growth and success in such a relatively short period can be attributed to our time tested set of best practices. BA Consulting’s achievements and cohesive functionality at each of our locations is partly due to following established protocols, routines, and guidelines. Adherence to these established protocols ensures everyone that even when we open up a new branch in a foreign country, it mirrors its sister sites across the world. In preparation for launching our new location in London, we have purchased 12 Lenova IdeaCentre A600 - 30116CU desktop computers. These computers come standard with Windows Vista. Each team will have to set up their computer and upgrade the current operating system to Windows 7 edition due to the fact that it cannot support many of our enterprise based software packages. We have purchased a license for 15 computers, with the expectation that each user will be able to carry out the operating system upgrade. Many on staff are not technically savvy, so we have put together a technical manual to ensure that the upgrade is performed correctly. Setting up Your Computer Step 1 – Remove five items from the box, the central processing unit (CPU), Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse and External...

No matter whether Boardman Management Group decides to upgrade to the new version of Microsoft Word or switch to a different word processor all together, other hardware and operating system upgrades will likely be necessary. Smith Systems Consulting will be able to help Boardman Management Group make that decision by weighing the costs of the different solutions. Costs that Smith Systems Consulting would typically consider in a similar scenario would be the price of the software upgrade, the price of potential hardware upgrades, the price any necessary operating system upgrades, the labor cost of each potential solution, the employee training cost...

Operating Systems (OS) allow the user to interface with the computer and make use of the many productivity tools available. The computer OS also manages and controls auxiliary equipment such as input/output devices (mouse/keyboard/monitors), and printers. Each of these allows the user to interact and communicate with the computer. Components and Functions Without an OS, a computer is a mix of hardware and applications...

Introduction

...Topic Notes: Windows 8 Introduction Windows 8 in history With the rapid acceptance of small powerful touch-based devices and the rapidly growing market for such devices, Microsoft had to react by developing an operating system capable of competing, while at the same time leveraging the greater part of the existing Windows XP and Windows 7 operating system functionality. Windows 8 story – Windows reimagined On first look, Microsoft seem to have created two operating systems in one, but further examination reveals that they have simply created a new touch supporting interface which gives the user a broader range of services and features. Windows 8 supports the new immersive Windows 8 UI application type and traditional desktop applications – allowing users to work with centralized services and other remote users, and to synchronize data between their desktops and their Windows phone or cloud presence provided by the SkyDrive feature. The classic Start button has been replaced by the new Windows 8 Start screen, while the classic and familiar Windows 7 desktop is retained and continues to support traditional desktop applications. The new Windows 8 Search feature takes the Windows search service to a new level of sophistication and ease of use, and searches can be applied to the system or within the Windows 8 UI application that you are currently working on. Several features of the Windows 8 operating system are designed to operate with remote services and social networking...
