During the story, I didn’t agree when Paul McCafferty believed the artwork was stolen, attempting to return for a compensation. The portrait was sentimental to Liv, illustrating her profound connection to David. While in Liv’s possession, she would painstakingly protect the painting, expressing her grief “after he died, I just didn’t want to be part of anything. I sat up here for weeks. I didn’t want to see other human beings” (Moyes 189). Consequently, she became mentally unstable dealing with the overwhelmingly painful experience. Despite her emotional struggles, Paul supported her through David’s death. However, in the midst of this, Paul stumbled upon the painting’s history, realizing the genuine value and unusual mystery surrounding the painting.
