Many people are discriminated against in the workplace because their sexuality. Studies show that anywhere from 15 percent to 43 percent gay people have experienced some form of discrimination and harassment at the workplace. ( Krehely, Burns 2011, American progress.org/issue) There is no federal law to protect these people from the discrimination. Under federal law it is still legal to fire someone for being gay. (Krehely, Burns 2011) The lawmakers in both chambers of the 112th Congress recently introduced laws which would finally bring full workplace protection to nearly all our nations’ workforces. (Krehely, Burns 2011) Even with this law in progress, there is still discrimination against people of the gay communities. They are law abiding and taxpayers like any other American and the discrimination against these groups are relative simple. Many of our country’s gay and transgender workers are being judged on their sexual orientation and gender identity— factors that have no impact on how well a person performs their job.(Burns,2011)

#6 I think that the world need to stop trying to be the judge of who can and cannot work, but allow whomever is qualified to do a job do it. Not base their performance on their sexuality because what they do on their own time has nothing to do with their work ethic. If a person is capable and able to do the job then, we the people should not deny them that right. They are people of the community and they are judged harshly by people of different belief. But who is going to judge the community for how they are treating the people of the gay and lesbian community? Carrie Dorsey
