...1. Wolfgang Keller is an effective leader. He is people-oriented and results-driven, but sometimes a bit too results-driven. He has a clear vision that he shares with most of his team, and he is both self- and socially-aware. Keller follows three of the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership. On the other end, he also has a tendency to over-control. The positives of Keller’s leadership outweigh the negatives. Keller uses the affiliative and pacesetting leadership styles frequently. He is an obvious people-person so the affiliative method is a natural one for him. Keller prefers to build relationships with everyone—employees and distributors alike. He also requests that his employees do the same in building relationships. Keller is also very goal-oriented so he behaves with a sense of urgency and demands accuracy, setting the pace for the rest of his team. He urges everyone to have good relationships with customers and distributors, and pushes for higher market share and profitability as a result. But, according to Goleman, pacesetting is a negative form of leadership because it takes less consideration of people and relationships, and focuses more on results. Leadership, in definition, is about leading people, focusing on people. Even though pacesetting has a slightly negative effect on the climate, the affiliative style Keller usually takes helps to balance it out and the overall climate is more positive because of Keller’s leadership. Of the Five Practice of Exemplary...

...Leading Self: Wolfgang Keller 1. What is your analysis of the situation facing Keller as he returns to Ukraine? Firstly there is no doubt the situation with Dmitri Brodsky needs to be addressed. While this may seem like major issue there is even a bigger issue at hand for Keller that is actually about leading shelf. The main issue that seems to be prevalent is that Königsbräu-Hellas A.E. stem is also geared with lots of young managers with following two problems that Keller is responsible for: 1. Performance Management (as indicated in Diitri’s case) 2. How to become and effective leader. Keller himself is young, as such earning respect of his direct report as well and superiors posed challenge and the situation faced by Keller who: - Micro managed - Exhibited poor interpersonal skills While Keller had great attributes like making key decisions; achieving results; overcoming obstacles and promoting innovation. His dominating style and inability to enjoy taking opportunity to coach and mentor& recognizing his teams’ contributions is clearly visible. The fact that the team drew the inverted structure also indicates that Keller became the funnel and restricting point for all decisions making. Being empathetic or focusing on the emotional needs of his team; providing clear direction; or dealing with team members who do not meet his standards. Keller exhibits non-constructive leadership attributes from LSI point of view. 2. What are the underlying...

...Ethical Issues and Analysis The element of the case study to be analyzed is the conflicting personalities between a manager and his subordinate. The case study opens with the dilemma of Keller contemplating what he should do about Brodsky: The most pressing problem concerned Dmitri Brodsky, Königsbräu-TAK’s commercial director. As Keller saw it, he had three options. One option was to fire Brodsky or, at the minimum, not give him an annual salary increase, which might have the same effect. Keller suspected that firing him would not be well received by Königsbräu’s corporate headquarters, and Brodsky’s voluntary departure might also raise questions. A second alternative was to try, once again, to help Brodsky improve his performance. The third alternative was to try to reorganize around Brodsky to compensate for his inadequacies, perhaps by splitting marketing and sales. (GABARRO, 2008) In conundrums such as the case study poses it’s important to think through the fact that managerial decisions have career implications for both the manager and subordinate. It’s important to recognize individual differences in employees and management when making hard decisions for the betterment of the workplace, no matter the circumstance. Chapter eight of the text, Business Ethics, opens with the statement: Employees have all sorts of job-related concerns. Generally speaking, they want to do well at their assignments, to get along with their colleagues, and to have their contributions...

...Baptism of Pocahontas John Gadsby Chapman Artist I believe the artist portrayed reverence and family connection in this painting. He shows a convergence of Christianity and the uncivilized Indians. It shows that different tribes or civilizations can love each other even though their belief systems can remain somewhat different. This painting was commissioned in1836 and was placed in the Rotunda of the Capitol Building in 1840. William Henry was elected as President in 1840. During the time this painting was commissioned, the fight against slavery actually began and cotton prices went up. Women also became antislavery abolitionist, which help link the two fights together. A state education board was also started in Massachusetts. Declaration of Independence John Trumbull Artist This painting shows a group of individuals working for a better United States. The painting does not show the actual signing of the Declaration. It does show a united front with strength and authority around the desk being well balanced, which was a show of republicanism. I feel Trumbull portrayed this well with great detail of strength and authority in the face and stance of each individual. Trumbull was commissioned to do four paintings with this being the first completed and the first to be hung in the Capitol in 1819 and later was moved to the Rotunda in 1826. The painting was also one of four to be done in the Revolution-era. During this time period the founding fathers were...

...it, some need to work for it, and others don't know how to get it. It is something either one has or does not, but rather can simply be fulfilled over the long run. The inquiry that numerous need addressed it "what would I be able to do to pick up confident?" I have discovered that confident is difficult to accomplish, yet with companions, trust, and time it can be come easy to reach. The sign of confidence is the "faith in oneself and one's forces or capacities." Everybody is inadequate with regards to trust in something; not everybody is great. Whether it be giving a discourse before the class, contending in a substantial rivalry, or tolerating one's appearance, some people do not have the confidence expected to appreciate life. Helen Keller said, "Positive thinking is the confidence that prompts accomplishment. There is no hope without trust and confidence." This quote is totally genuine in light of the fact that if one does not have certainty they can never accomplish or go past what they need to do. A few people have so much confidence that they do not have fear to do anything. Others are the complete inverse, and are frightened of being judged or scorned by others. Self-assurance can't be taught, yet is come to by the person when they choose to have faith in themselves. Keeping in mind the end goal to achieve fearlessness, one needs to accept that they can do the current workload. It can't be fulfilled overnight, yet gradually gets more grounded and more grounded more than...

...passage from an academic source, altering it to make it her own. It is unclear whether this was done through intention or a lack of understanding. Many students may understand that copying and pasting from a source is an obvious form of plagiarism, but may not consider paraphrasing to be as well. Paraphrasing can also become challenging to acknowledge as a form of plagiarism, because it can sometimes be hard to distinguish between what you consider genuine thoughts and thoughts learned through other sources. As Mark Twain stated (1903), “For substantially all ideas are second-hand consciously and unconsciously drawn from a million outside sources” ("All Ideas Are Second-Hand: Mark Twain On Plagiarism And Originality, In A Letter To Helen Keller"). There are many tips Teresa can take into consideration the next time she writes an...

...Summary of Helen Keller: The Story of My Life For my personal choice book I have chosen Helen Keller: The Story of My Life, by James Berger. I chose this book because it was very interesting to read about how her education developed throughout her life. At other times people would spell into her hand what they were saying. This book was about the first 22 years of her life. When she was 18 months old she suffered from Scarlet Fever, which left her blind and deaf. Her articulate speech was gone as well. With these disabilities she also had problems with relationships. ...Story of my Life by Helen Keller The Story of My Life by Helen Keller is an autobiography of Helen, a girl who was born without any abnormalities until the age of 19 months that she came down with a fever. Leading to an acute congestion of the stomach and the brain, the doctor said she might not recover, although she did survive it lead to her being blind and deaf as a result. Helen’s autobiography talks about her childhood when she met Anne Sullivan, to learning to use sign language, to being able to learn to read on her own, which led her to write her first short story titled "The Frost King,” to Mr. Anagnos, but was sad at the fact it was plagiarized and was found similar to, "The Frost Fairies" by Miss Margaret T. Canby, in a book called "Birdie and His Friends,” and how it affected her friendship with Mr. Anagnos had ended because no one believed that she did not intend to plagiarize the story. She also talks about her visit to Boston, to the Perkins Institute, and seeing other children who are blind and chat with them, "what joy to talk with other children in my own language" (Ch9). Helen also talks about going to Radcliffe College for the first time and overcoming obstacles with her teacher, Anne Sullivan; for example, when she could not get her books published in Braille in time and it was a difficult learning process but Anne had some difficulty signing into Helen’s hand. She talks about Anne and her new acquired friendships such as with Mr. Anagnos, Alexander Graham...

...weird and we don’t get along. Body: My high school life was tough, and it’s something I never want to experience again. The high school I attended was a career technical school in Springfield, Ohio. We ran a restaurant there for lunch service Tuesday-Friday. Also, we competed in state and national competitions for culinary and baking and pastry. While attending high school, I also worked at The Golden Jersey Inn at Youngs Dairy as a prep/catering cook. During the fall, I plan to intern at the Greenbrier in West Virginia. Then after I get my associates degree here, I plan to get my bachelors at CIA in New York for food science. I would like to someday work at Alinea or The French Laundry. I’m really inspired by Grant Achatz and Thomas Keller. Conclusion: I feel as though if I didn’t attend Springfield Clark Career Technology Center, I probably would have never came to Johnson and Wales. I have my instructors from there to thank for that, Chef Hay and Chef Scott. Coming to Charlotte has opened so many opportunities that I didn’t think were imaginable in Ohio. Leaving high school and starting college early made it so much easier for me to get away from what I had to experience in high...

...Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen, for the next few minutes I will share with you my perspective about beauty. I have a quote, which did not only capture my mind, but also captured my heart. Helen Keller said: “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.” She is American author, political activist, and lecturer. She was the first deaf blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree she was blind. You might be wondering why I have decided to talk to you about this quote, but instead of me just telling you, I will take you to a journey that might place you in my position. Let me ask you this, with a raise of hands how many of you would like to live in a house like this? Well, it is a common goal in today’s fast-paced society to achieve monetary wellness in order to live what some people call “the good life”. In this house you have the latest technology and a crew of people that are more than willing to take care of all of your needs. Now, picture yourself in this house. It certainly does not compare, right? So what is my point? Why am I showing these pictures? Well what you do not know is that in the second picture lives an aged couple who had been married for over 20 years. They had lived together the toughest years of their lives in that simple house. They had seen their daughter grow, they saw how she would fail, but they also had the opportunity to see her achieve all of her goals. Now if you show this...

...Helen Keller was a very intelligent woman who was afflicted at an early age in life. Her disabilities set in on her at eighteen months. As she grew older she didn’t let her incapacity defeat her. In 1933, Keller wrote an essay entitled, “Three Days To See”. In this article Keller gives a response about what she would like to see if she were given her sight back for three days. She also speaks about what it would be like if others were to lose their sight for three days as well. The opening statement of Keller’s article reads, “I have often thought it would be a blessing if each human being were stricken blind and deaf for a few days at some time during his early adult life. Darkness would make him more appreciative of sight, silence would teach him the joys of sound.” Does not this statement alone make you take the time to sit back and wonder what that type of journey would be like. Then suddenly you close your eyes and embrace all that is going on around you just to bathe in its glory for you know you have taken so much for granted Keller uses a lot of her emotions to catch your attention. It is very hard to argue with her about the situation because she makes a very relevant point. One reason is that she lives by experience. Keller lives in darkness on a day to day basis. Looking at my like, I know that I definitely take so much for granted and do not appreciate a lot of the simpler things in life. Things like the way my son son turns his head to the side and pokes his lip...
