First of all, When people ask August rude questions about his face, he just looks down and doesn’t say anything.“Were you in a fire or something?” Julian asked. First, August has gone through twenty seven surgeries in his lifetime because they were trying to fix his face. This shows that, August is a very brave boy to have made through all of those surgeries because he was a little kid then and he didn’t get frightened at all. Next, August gets picked on by other kids at school because of what his face looks like. This shows that, August made it through a lot of tough times in his life to make his face look right, but August won’t let people like, Julian, talk about his face like that. Last of all, When August was at camp, he and Jack will met some seventh graders that screamed and said “What is that?!” about August’s face, but August held his head up high once he figured out what they were talking about his face.
