...Social work Theory Essay Introduction This essay will explain how Social work is about dealing with various problems within society and how Social work theories provide a framework which enable Social work practice find an effective solution to the issue at hand. It will explain how Social work theory draws on linking those theories and putting it into practice and that the relationship between the two aspects are imperative. The interrelationships between Theory and Practice. Social work is about dealing with society and the issues they have in their daily life. Society is complex and therefore having theories to work with can empower the Social worker as much as a client. The theories shape the course of action taken or the practice. Theories are described in Payne (2014) as generalized ideas that can describe our knowledge of situations and the world in which we live in an organised manner (p.3). Specifically in relation to social work theory, Payne (p.5) simply states it helps us do or understand social work. Nash, Munford & O’Donoghue describe how theory informs practice which in turn informs theory in action and describes it as a ‘map’ (p.15). Without being able to understand Social work, let alone do it in practice you would not assist the client and therefore is a key piece within the jigsaw of Social work. According to Payne (p.9) there are four different ways to approach theory; Perspectives which allows you to look at situations from different points...

...patience and listening abilities of the social worker are imperative. The ability of the social worker to create lasting relations with other agencies is very important as well. Many seniors have a variety of social and psychological problems. To resolve these problems, they most often depend on social service providers. Hence, social workers become a significant part of the social world of the elderly in their later years. While elderly persons need food, shelter, health care, and social services, they also need to be treated with respect. The extent to which the service providers treat elderly persons with respect, therefore, becomes a significant psychosocial factor that affects the quality of their later life (Sung & Kim, 2008). In social work, respect for the client has, in fact, been considered to be the very beginning of the service process (NASW, 1996). That is, respect is to precede all forms of care and service (Gambrill, 1983). With respect, service providers can demonstrate a positive...

...Ways To Manage Work Life Balance This is the sentence that brings the idea when we talk of work-life balance. When we work every day, all day, with no time set aside for living life, we just get more stressed. We are unable to find sight of reality. We may not have the touch with creativity, which is just as important for producing quality work as it is for innovating in business. There are no benefits to living a workaholic lifestyle. A good work-life balance is very important in our life. Working is necessary and hard working is surely not bad but we need to find the right balance to keep our body healthy. Some rest is always necessary and that is something that the so called "workaholics" many times forget. A recent study shows that people who are stressed out in their jobs have a higher risk for dementia later in life. This is bad news for the American worker who often has long hours and can often loose work-life balance on their way to climbing to the top of the corporate ladder. Deadlines, conflicting demands, promised delivery, increased accessibility, mixed with a need for a life outside of work, does not easily tip the scales to personal well-being. We have to focus on prioritizing and setting goals for ourselves, and create an action plan that will help us organize our life at work and in the home. Follow this Work Life Balance guide to get ourselves focused, and to create a plan that will help us to reduce stress. Setting healthy boundaries is essential...

...The social work profession is one that exceeds both boundaries and expectations. With the proper credentials and knowledge, there are no limitations on individuals who consider themselves empathetic, diligent, and serving. For some social work professionals, human health is their ground for providing assistance to clients who may not be able to help themselves. In this field, social workers use communication, research, and networking skills to find needed resources that will ensure both mental and physical stability. Specifically, the United States Department of Health and Human Services quotes that mental health involves the psychological, emotional, and social well-being of an individual (“What is Mental Health”, n.d.). Therefore, it is important to note that properly treating someone with a mental illness goes beyond their mental faults; however, professionals should delve deeper into other realms that affect the mind and the body when treating clients, especially those who suffer with dual diagnosis. Defined, a dual diagnosis is when a client suffers from both a mental disorder and an addiction (“Important Statistics on Dual Diagnosis”, 2017). About four million people suffered from dual diagnosis in the past year alone (“Important Statistics on Dual Diagnosis”, 2017). This statistic brings about...

...International English Writing session: Modern Writing Task 1)the theme in heartbreaking work of a staggering genius (S.1- 101): Heartbreaking work of a staggering genius is a novel, which was published in 2000. Dave eggers is the author of the book, and the book is also his memoir. The book is written in present form and is chronologically built, it is written in I-form, and seen thru Dave’s eyes. Perhaps the biggest theme in the book is that moving on after a great loss is a necessity. In the book, the main character loses both his parents to cancer within a month; he seemed to move on very quickly from these traumatic events, and at first that made me think that, he did not care. It made me think that maybe he was not as close with his parents as most people are, and it made me dislike the main character, since I could not relate to him. ‘’There is a voice inside of me, a very excited, chirpy voice, that urges me to keep things merry madcap even, the mood buoyant. Because Beth is always pulling out old photo albums crying, asking Toph how he feels, I feel I have to overcompensate by keeping us occupied.’’(Heartbreaking work of a staggering genius p.88) After the death of his parents, Dave becomes the warden of his little brother Toph. Instantly he begins to do fun activities with him, and he does not seem like he is grieving over the death of his parents, and I felt that I got no explanation why until p.88. There the narrator explains that he must constantly keep things...

...Work is a great place for guest service but for some reason we have been failing at our secret shops. So the first question is: What happen to guest service? I think it is because of how lazy people are getting. I know sometimes we are really busy and we can only point them in to the direction of where that products at but when where not busy and all you are doing is stocking or cleaning you should walk the guest to where they need to be or if you don’t know to that department and then get another team member that could help. For example on 8/26 I was helping a guest with chair feet. Me thinking they were in cab apps but by asking Gail. She then pointed me to hardware. She didn’t know the exact aisle so I called Mike and had him take me and the guest to the chair feet. I think this is a good representation of good guest service but not the best since I had to go to two people but I still found the product the guest was looking for. The guest left happy with the merchandise. Guest service means to me the ability to help the guest for what they need. To get them everything they need for their project o they don’t have to come back. Why I come to work. For one I enjoy it. The seconded is that it brings a smile to my face to get to help guest pick out there vanities, there shower/tub, or there hot water tank because sometimes there not sure which one so you have to ask them question to qualify which one they need. The third is to get paid but that’s on the last of this list....
