...First, it is essential to evaluate the primary sources in order set up the contexts of this research. The researcher conducted an observation at the Wade Adoption Center operated by the Humane Society of Northwest Georgia. On Friday October 28th, 2016 the researcher spent approximately two hours not only observing the volunteers, but performing some of their routine activities. The researcher was greeted by Tracy, a middle-aged woman. Tracy allowed the researcher to sign in and she began to explain to her what a regular morning at the center was like. The first shift begins at 7:30am. The dogs are separated between kennel dogs which is primarily used for the little dogs, the cage house for medium dogs and kennels on the hilltop for bigger dogs....

... The settings I studied were two grocery stores. The first store was a college campus grocery store/deli. This store was small and had few employees. The atmosphere of this store was casual and somewhat relaxed. The atmosphere was created by the employees’, their interactions with the customers, and the types of services being offered. The employees wore jeans and polo uniform shirts which is very casual and nothing like business attire or a full uniform like larger grocery store might make them wear. The interactions were the biggest part that created this casual atmosphere and the reality of this store (Lerum, 2001). The employees and customers had many similarities such as for the most part they were around the same age, they were students, and a part of the same university. For these reasons they had somewhat informal conversations and both parties were friendly in a way that seemed like they knew each other. Occasionally employees would stand and talk with each other or with customers instead of finding something to do to be busy. Sometimes an employee and a customer might know each other and engage in longer conversations. The services being offered was that customers could go to the deli and make their own sandwiches or choose one and have things changed to it. This required the employees to ask questions, interact, and often led to them joking and having conversations with customers. Customers felt free to ask questions and make requests and engage in the process of their...

...Workplace Observation Ben Parsons MGT 331 Mr. Roy Detmar February 9, 2005 Abstract When referring to an organizations culture, one might automatically think about its people and where they come from. Fortunately for me my organization is much more than just the people who work in my building. The Marine Corps was born on November 10, 1775 has been full of observable culture from its inception. Although stocked full of different cultures and traditions that have been ever present for the last 229 years of existence. Throughout this paper, the dress and language, technology along with some of the artifacts, symbols and stories associated with the Marine Corps will be addressed. Dress and Language One of the most noticeable examples of dress for the Marine Corps is our service and dress uniforms. It isn’t very often that you encounter someone who hasn’t seen or at least doesn’t know about how striking a Marine in the Dress Blue uniform is. Fortunately for us, we have the most awe-inspiring uniform of all the armed services. Since the Dress Blue uniform is one of our most recognizable uniforms, it is reserved for only special occasions. It is worn for public relations types of events such as the annual Toys for Tots campaign. It is also worn during the rendering of funeral honors for deceased veterans. Another reason for wear is our annual birthday celebration. The guidelines that exist for this uniform compare it to...

... I have a passion for helping people. I was very fortunate, with my dad's help to be given an opportunity to interview for a position at the Davians Event and Conference Center. After being hired, I approached my first day feeling extreme nervousness and fear. The five minute walk to work seemed like hours as scenarios of potential failure clouded my mind. A sense of impending doom crippled my normally cheerful mood as I approached the employee entrance. My coworkers immediately welcomed me into the team, which brightened my mood significantly. The day took a dark turn when my boss asked me to assist her in carrying a fully set table across the room. Grabbing the table at an awkward angle, my hands slipped and the place settings fell off. The embarrassment brought back the anxiety that I had just overcome. I wrestled with that anxiety the remainder of the night. When I look back, I find myself laughing at how shy and nervous I acted. My first day proved critical as an example as I continued working. I developed a sense of right and wrong in my actions and duties. Mistakes soon carried less of an impact on my emotions and I found myself able to attack my errors without hesitation or fear. I looked forward to every shift. Excitement never ceased to seize me on that five minute walk to work. Fast forward one year. I continue to work waitstaff at the Davians Event and Conference Center to this day. Of all the different types of events I work at, weddings continue to stand...

...As creation itself, humans have the tendency to crave changes of their surroundings, lifestyle, or even themselves. Like most teenagers, my lack of organization skills hinders me from achieving my fullest potential. My room, for example, looks as if the mall threw up on the floors after eating some bad tacos from a dingy food truck. Dust collects on the shelves of my bookcase in the far right corner where I have neither the time nor the energy to reach. Entrance requires a HAZMAT suit to protect anyone who enters from the toxic scent of Brittany Spears perfume. The labyrinth of black and white socks that covers the floor rivals any corn maze in town. The transition from home to school is no better. After walking into the smelly locker bays, I lean over to turn the black knob of my locker back and forth until I hear the satisfying click of the door opening. Then the cork is pulled from the bottle of champagne as the cascade of chemistry papers and old algebra homework descends upon me. Piecing together the jigsaw puzzle that is my locker, I hope not to pull a false paper out and unleash the wrath of the tower of Jenga. Though young adults tend to lack proper organization skills, our attention spans limit us as well. Consequently, our grades, relationships, and free time suffer from our inability to pay attention. While a lecture can captivate an audience, many minds tend to drift to other subjects like dinner, a crush, or a rainbow elephant wearing a sparkly tutu. At school, my...

...While sitting at the fire station I started to ponder how I got to this point and the feeling I cannot explain. For the last couple of years I have been feeling this unpleasant feeling in my stomach each time I went to work. It was really hard to explain my feeling to my coworkers or my family. I can tell you this, I couldn’t even stand to look at my patients anymore. I had let myself get to a point where I hated my job so much I could not mask the feelings. It was time to make a decision on getting out of this place and in a hurry. In the meantime I was sitting in the chair pondering, it was Christmas Eve and the tones dropped in the station “motor vehicle accident on Main Street.” Everyone ran to the trucks and rushed to the scene of the accident. While driving to the scene that’s when I made my decision to move on. Upon arriving onto the scene the police were there directing traffic around three vehicles and a short patch of road way. We got out to survey the scene and see who needed help. We did not see the full scene because it was dark. So we attended to the drives first, they all were declining treatment. After everyone living had signed the refusal forms, we asked the officer what had happened. He explained that a homeless man was intoxicated, walk out into traffic and got hit by the three vehicles. After turning on the lights from the side of the ambulance the whole scene was lit up like daylight. All I could see was body parts everywhere on the road surface. That poor...

...You mentioned that you are a social worker. I am a teacher, and I believe that our jobs require us to possess the same qualities. Being in the helping field, all of our strengths allow us to work effectively with various populations. I agree with your challenge about furthering our education on different cultures. For example, I have a student in my class who is from China. At the beginning of the year, he did not want to engage with the other students. He appeared sad and lonely. I believe he felt scared and misunderstood. I did some research about children from Chinese cultures living in America. I learned to be genuinely patient with him and encouraged the other students to be helpful and friendly towards him. Having my students make the effort in developing friendships with this boy made such a difference. By Christmas, he had a few friends, appeared much happier, and started to participate more in class. Regarding theories, CBT has always been my go-to intervention. It is the one that I feel the most comfortable with. I, too, would like to feel as comfortable when applying other interventions and techniques with future clients. As we have been told, there is no “one theory fits all”. Thanks for sharing. ~Renée Hi Deborah! Crisis intervention is an excellent technique to use with Dorothy. As in any other unions negotiation process, there are significant concerns to agree upon during the negotiation. Perhaps, the major points are the wages increases, Benefits especially medical coverage, and some item based on that year's contract negotiation. According to Jasmine, the consultation could be tense, long hours, yet both sides try to be professional and attentive. For example, both sides keep their interest knowing that they could be fair to each other. My interviewee is not involved in the hiring process. ...For a private event at an elegant restaurant, bar, or hotel should it clearly state what the total liquor minimum cost will be after taxes and gratuities before a patron agrees to a certain amount? I have run into this issue quite a bit at work. Just a little background on where I work, I am currently employed at the Maxwell Mansion in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. It was the first mansion built in Lake Geneva by Dr. Maxwell. It is a beautiful old, Victorian mansion that was built back in 1856. The upstairs has been converted into a swanky, Victorian hotel with six rooms. The Lower level was converted in a bar and lounge area. The basement, way back in the 1920?s, was a speakeasy. A few years ago, the basement was converted back into a speakeasy that is open to the public on the weekends. Only if they know the password though! Many people come from out of state to stay and have a drink at this beautiful historic mansion. Because of the renovations made, many different kinds of special events can be held at the mansion. The summer is definitely the busiest time for these events. The mansion is located right across the street from Geneva Lake, in Southeastern Wisconsin. The upstairs bar is full on the weekends and the speakeasy is packed to the brim. On occasion, during the summer, there will be special events. These events include weddings, receptions, birthday parties, bridal showers, etc. All of these events are orchestrated and run by the event coordinator. She makes sure that every...

...Organizational Psychology Paper Cherrise Smith University of Phoenix October 25, 2010 Wanda Moore Define organizational psychology The definition of organizational psychology is simple; it involves settings that are based on workplace or office psychology. These settings are applied to different types of groups, which take research, intervention, theories, and communication strategies to a whole different level in both non-workplaces and workplaces. Groups of people in this area get with each other and work together to accomplish important task and assist them to understand there connections. Organizational psychologists work with different types of people from middle executive to those of lower rank and management teams. Some workplaces want the employees to be as creative as possible. All in all, this means making sure everyone is communicating with each other and ensuring their bodies and minds are doing the same. Organizational psychology also focuses on individual behavior. Although it is focused on groups, individual behavior has become common in the setting to obtain information about the individual’s influences. Unlike groups and organizations, people behave. You derive a person’s sense of humor, taste and other behavioral elements from them, not the group or organization they are affiliated with. The focus on how individual’s influence and are influenced explain organizational processes that are not like social science disciplines, which do not...
