...Apologetics 104 week 3 June, 4/2012 What is a worldview? : In my opinion a worldview is one's perception of the world, and how it affects the manner in which he/she responds to the world in which they live. Ken Funk (Kenneth H. Funk II, PhD, and Associate Professor at Oregon State University) in his paper “What is a worldview?” cited the German word Weltanschauug which means “worldview” as… “Seems self-evident: an intellectual perspective on the world or universe.” As well as the 1989 edition of the Oxford English Dictionary defines “Weltanschauug” as …”literally, a perception of the world…” as a particular philosophy of life; a concept of the world held by an individual or a group…” Weltanschauug is also cited in “Weider and Gutierrez’s’ text Consider as a widely accepted term and was first coined by the Prussian philosopher, Immanuel Kant in his Critique of Judgment published in 1790.” It appears that many philosophers will agree that “Worldview” is one’s perception of the world. Everyone has a “worldview” but may not be aware of this view. Conscience or not it dictates how they live or act in the world…Worldview does not necessarily have to do with a perception of the world or the planet but instead it deals with a thought process that is developed from several sources. Our culture, our environment, Parents, teachers, beliefs, and our own reasoning affect our worldview. One can have many worldviews; however the worldview that” most” allow to dictate or the view that is...

...Laura Thrasher CWV-101 April 12, 2013 Bob Greene Worldview Essay Throughout this class my eyes have been opened over and over again to the way I think about different worldviews. A person’s worldview is determined though their beliefs and their morals. Though my worldview is Christian someone else’s can be completely different. Just because someone’s worldview is different than mine does not mean that their worldview is wrong. Worldview is different for each individual but they can still have the same set of ethics and morals. From a young age my grandmother brought me up with a Christian worldview and its beliefs. I know that God is the creator of all things in the universe. I know this because it is in the Bible. The nature of the universe came into existence all because of God. God created the nature of the universe to show his love for all things that he created. After God created the universe he made man out of his own image and he was pleased. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God knew that he had to punish them. I do not think that God wanted to punish them, but he had to teach them wrong and right. Now days we have the Bible and God’s words to tell us how we should act and what things are right and wrong. In everyday life we are faced with situations that we must choose what to do. God knows that as humans we are not perfect and will from time to time sin. God loves us so much though that he sent his son to Earth to die on the cross for our sins. By Jesus dying...

...WORLDVIEW ASSIGNMENT Part One Worldview is the structure of one’s beliefs of the world around them. It is a broader picture of our life and everything that is in it. “There are many different ways to define the term ‘worldview’. It is a word that encompasses a great deal of meaning, emotions, and potential consequences” (Weider & Gutierrez, 2011, p. 50). Part Two The origin of worldviews is asking about how our life began and how mankind came to be in existence. In Genesis 1:1, it tells of when it all began. In Genesis 1:27, it tells about how God created male and female. The identity of worldviews asks what it means to be human and if humans are more important than animals. In Genesis 1:28, God said for us to be fruitful and to multiply. It also says we are to have dominion or to rule over every living thing. In Genesis 2:15 God placed man in the Garden of Eden to tend to it and keep it up. The meaning or purpose of worldviews is why we exist. In Deuteronomy 11:13 we are commanded to love God and to serve Him. “The purpose of mankind according to John 17:3, is ‘that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent’” (Weider & Gutierrez, 2011, p. 61). The meaning of morality of worldviews asks what is meant by right and wrong and how we should live. In Exodus 20:6 we are reminded to love God and to keep His commandments. In Luke 11:2-4, it says we are to pray and ask for forgiveness of our sins daily. The meaning of destiny...

...Worldview Assignment Brandon L. Foster Liberty University Worldview Assignment. What is a worldview? A worldview is the perspective or knowledge of a group, individual, life, death or society. “Holding a proper worldview demands a standard for truth, logic, and reason” (Caner, 2008, p. 499). It is usually generated though someone’s own experiences in life or through their emotions. Weider and Gutierrez (2013) found that a worldview is our underlying philosophy of life and the filter which a person uses to interpret life and the world around them (p. 58). Articulation of a Biblical Worldview Question of Origin. How did life begin and how did mankind come into existence? These questions are asked by many. When it comes to the beginning of man, we were created in the image of the one and only true God. In the beginning man was created on a different day from the animals. Man was formed from the soil of the ground and the Lord blew the breath of life into his nostrils (Genesis 1:24-31 & Genesis 2:7 English Standard version). Question of Identity. What does it mean to be a human? Are we more important than the animals of the world? Mankind is God’s special creation, we were created a little lower than the angles (Psalm 8:5 English Standard Version). At the same time we were created higher than the animals. We were given the responsibility to rule and take care of them along with the earth (Genesis 1:26 English Standard Version). Question of Meaning. Why does mankind...

...Hughes 1 Kashawahara Hughes Paul Weaver APOL 104 March/7/2016 Worldview Part I What is a worldview? Worldview is how a person interprets and see the world around them. A person’s worldview will determine how they interact with everything and everyone around them. The view will consist of someone’s morals, values, and beliefs. Worldview serves as the basis for how someone will judge themselves and others. A person’s worldview dictates their perception of reality and how they will live their life daily. (Part I count: 65) Part II The Question of Origin God is seen as the creator of everything. He is said to have created everyone and everything out of nothing. The first chapter of Genesis describes His total process of creation. It says how God spoke everything into existence. Moses talks about God as the first cause in second Peter. The Question of Identity Mankind is one of God’s greatest creations. We are said to be made in his image. We were also given the responsibility to rule over all the animals and to be their caretakers in Genesis 2. Psalms 8 states how mankind are above the animals but a little lower than the angels. The Question of Meaning and Purpose It is believed that maybe our sole purpose is to know God. We as Christians our main goal is to have a strong relationship with God and not just simply go with the tenants of the religion. In John 17 it talks about how our purpose is that we may know God and Jesus Christ whom God sent to us. In Deuteronomy...

...APOL 104 Week 3 WORLDVIEW Part I The meaning of the term worldview seems self-evident an intellectual perspective on the world or universe. The general beliefs that are my worldview shape not only how I see the world, but also profoundly influence the particular beliefs I come to hold, the judgments and decisions I make. A worldview is built throughout an individual’s lifetime and is comprised of what the individual has seen, heard, learned, and experienced. Part II 1. Christians believe that mankind was created by one and only sovereign God (Genesis 1:27). The Christians worldview maintains that god created the world and everything in it. God created the heavens and the earth in the beginning (Genesis 1:1). God is also sovereign in that he has the power to create the universe in the first place, but also intervene in history to bring about his purposes, as in raising Jesus from the dead. 2. The Christian worldview accepts that mankind is a unique and creation of God. Christians believe that man was made in the likeness of God (Genesis 1:27). We know that we are God’s own creation and we are set apart from others and ideas such as evolution and then given authority over all of the earth (Genesis 1:28). God intended that mankind would care for both the livestock and plant life. 3. Meaning and purpose are defined and provided by the sacrifice of Christ on the cross and rise from the tomb 3 days later. Christians believe that mankind exists to glorify...

...What is a worldview? Everyone has a worldview, whether or not we realize that we do. For example, a worldview is like a patch covering one of our eyes that taint our vision or after the way we see the world around us. Our worldview is formed by our everyday surroundings such as our upbringing, the culture we live in, the books we read, our education, and the media and movies. Many people worldview were formed by cultural influences. In most cases, people will not be able to give a defense of their beliefs to others because they have never thought strategically about what they believe. All Christians believe in Jesus Christ, as the savior, but having said that they come in more variety than one. Some people believe solely in the Bible including Genesis, where as some believe that the Bible is simply a history book. Christians have so many different beliefs about the origins of the earth and mankind. Christians who believe primarily in the Bible say that the world and everything on it was created by God: Whereas others accept that the universe came into existence over eleven billion years ago and that mankind evolved millions years ago. Hench, one may start to question their beliefs that they fill dearly attached to. The question of Identity can be a tricky one because there are so many different beliefs. ...Worldview The term worldview refers to a comprehensive conception in which individuals understand the nature of reality, the nature and purpose of human life, and the laws governing human relationships from a specific standpoint. Worldviews are formed by our life experience. At the same time they also restructure our approach to life. In most cases, as you mature in life, your views change based on the environment and the things you go through. Cultural changes also can change a person’s worldview. Whether or not we realize it, we all have a certain predisposition and basis that affects the way we view life. Word Count: 99 How did life begin? Many would say natural conception; but who or what made it possible for the first human being to exist? (Genesis 1.27) “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them”. God created this planet; however, only human beings were created in His Image. Now a days there are so many theories as to how mankind came in to existence; “The Evolution Theory” and “The Big Bang Theory” are just two of them. What is the most logical explanation? How do you choose which theory to believe in? Everyone has references to go by that would help them understand and expand their knowledge. As Christian, we use the Bible. ...Biblical Worldview Essay Brent Holland 07//2014 Bible 110 – D09 – LUO Professor Floyd Abstract: In the book of Romans we find a clearly painted picture of what the Christian faith is meant to like. Paul teaches many aspects of Christianity that set at the foundation of his belief system. Romans teaches us views on the natural world, human identity, human relationships and culture. Paul presents Jesus is for everybody in his petition to the Romans. Romans teaches us that salvation is resting at the fingertips of Jesus and the work he did on the cross for all mankind. Paul teaches that all Christians are called by God to sacrifice and love. The Natural world, human identity, human relationships and culture are very important topics and they each have a direct impact on this student’s worldview. Paul does a very good job in Romans giving his reader a thorough presentation of the gospel and what it means to Christianity. Paul covers a wide variety of topics in Romans 1-8 but gets to his foundational roots which are being a Christ at all cost. Natural World Paul teaches us in Romans that God is the creator of universe and all mankind. God spoke the world as we know it into existent in 6 days. Paul illustrates his depth of knowledge on this topic by communicating to the reader the truth that all know of God through his creation. He has shown himself to everyone through of creation. ...What is a WORLDVIEW? a. A worldview is a way that a person sees the world, what filters that are used and what morals they use to interpret events. “A worldview is the framework of beliefs of how a person sees the world around them”. (Caner, 498) (41 words) II. Articulate the Biblical/Christian Worldview for the following 5 questions. b. The Question of Origin – i. This is derived from the idea of where did life begin as well as how did man come into existence. We believe that we were created by god and that his hand brought the world about. The most obvious scripture is Genesis 1:1 and David proclaimed his creation in Psalms 139:13-16. (52 words) c. The Question of Identity – ii. This Worldview to me, asks what does my life represent and am I more important than other beings? We, as humans, were created in the image of God, but not on the same level as him. However, we were created to govern over his creation. We were created to rule above the animals, Genesis 1:26, and were made to be to serve under God, Psalms 8:4-8. (67 words) d. The Question of Meaning/Purpose – iii. This question is more of a singular base for knowledge of “why do I exist?” We as Christians believe our purpose is to know God or some see it as a way for God to reach man, through his word. In our reading the example of John 3:17 is given to support this view. 1 Timothy 2:3-4 tells of God’s expectations for us. (64 words) e. The Question...

...Worldview Jeffrey Smith Theo 104-D86 11/25/2013 Worldview Often times the term “worldview” is given a simple definition of: the way we see he world. While this is a simple definition is goes beyond just how we see the world. As stated in the Popular Encyclopedia of Apologetics “worldview is marked by the guiding premise of evaluation.” (pg. 498) It would be good to start with “who are we?” This is a very common question that many of us will ask throughout our lives. The simple answer to this question is: we are His creation. Genesis 1:27 show us that we are his creation: “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” We see that the bible tells us two times in this verse that we are created in God’s image. Since we are created in God’s image that means that we are his creation and that we are perfect in form since God is perfect. Not only did God make us in him image but also see in Job 33:4 that He gives us the very life that we have; “The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” Without God we are nothing but with God we are perfect in His image and that through him we are given life. As we go throughout our lives and within our work place, to have a grasp of who we are in Christ, it makes it much easier to live. We can be comfortable knowing that we are love by Christ while others may not like us. Since we are loved by Christ and have that identity we can...

...to take a broad view about what you perceive. These experiences, memories and learnt ideas are what form your concept of a worldview. My worldview is that we are all products of our environment. My beliefs and attitudes have resulted from the process through which my education and learning has been obtained. The beliefs and attitudes that I have grown up with, to do with my education and learning, has been because of my parents and how I was raised. My experience of being raised in a military environment, living and travelling all over Australia and overseas, has also very much shaped and broadened my worldview. Every person has a different way of seeing and understanding the world. Hobson (1996) defines a worldview as ‘the primary conceptual framework within which our beliefs, values, attitudes and assumptions about ourselves and others are held’. This interpretation and view can be constructed by many things, parents, close family and the culture, religion and community we live in. So then, a worldview can be personally internal, but be shaped by external manipulations? I relate this to education and learning in the school system where a teacher is the external manipulator who absolutely influences a person’s way of being educated and their learning, and therefore, their worldview. Only some of my educational experiences have manipulated my worldview, in addition to my beliefs and attitudes. It was my parents who taught me to be independent, reliable, self-sufficient...

...Worldview Dwight Taylor Liberty University APOL104 Contemporary Worldview Professor: Dr. Darren C. Wu Worldview What is worldview and how is developed? How does it affect our decision making? Most importantly, how does it influence our development of a Christian belief system as we interact with the world? What is Worldview Worldview is one’s philosophy of life. It is developed over a lifetime from the influence of multiple outside input sources such as parents, peers, teachers and media. Thus developed it serves as a filter for our decision making throughout life. (Weider and Gutierrez) 2013 define worldview as “A worldview, then, is a response of our heart or inner being; our intellect, emotion and will”.
