Ronald Reagan vs.Jimmy Carter Presidential Election of 1980 The U.S. Election of 1980 was the 49th Presidential Election to be held in the United States. It was held on November 4, 1980 between incumbents Democrat Jimmy Carter, Republican Ronald Reagan, and Independent John B. Anderson. This election was known as the beginning of what was called, “Ronald Regan Revolution.” During this election both parties fought to win the Presidential Election. Regan, made the promise of restoring the national military strength. He also promised to end the “ Trust me government” and to make sure that the economic health was put back into order, by putting into place what was known as the “ supply side economic policy.” Reagan also promised a “balance budget.” This was known as the beginning of the end of inflation. During this time there was a divide for Carter with the female voters. He was the only presidential candidate that was a supporter of the ERA. Carter also was the presidential candidate that did not make a promise during this campaign and did was put down by his aides, because he did not have a “grand plan” for the broken economy at this time. Where as, Reagan did have a promise during this time and stuck with it. Reagan's campaign was always put down by Carter. Carter never would make responses to any of his part of what he would do for the Presidential election. When the election was held in November 1980, Regan beat Carter by almost 10% of the popular vote. The electoral college vote was known as the “Landslide of 1980.” Regan had the most votes with 489, and Carter with 49 votes.
