...This is Pow Wow He stood among the dancers in the grass arena, still and poised, ready to outperform his competition. Finally, the loudspeakers rang out with the beat of the drum, setting the dancers into motion for the last time that year. Slowly, they began to come alive quickening their pace as the singers cried out their song. His steps were perfect, each one placed with meaning, precisely timed with the beat. His feathers bobbed up and down, echoing his movements. Beads of sweat streamed down his painted face and caught at the end of his nose before being thrown onto the moccasin-beaten grass. His bells and headdress shook with each step, the red and yellow colors of his regalia blurring as he spun. His heart raced as the song reached its peak, his hands wet with nervous sweat. He timed his steps, concentrated on the beat, and took a deep breath, preparing for the move that would bring him victory: a complete and perfect handspring. As his feet came down over his body, thousands of Indians around the arena caught their breath. He pretended not to notice, continuing to pound his moccasins into the ground in rhythm with the drum. As the last beat rang, he froze his body in the stance of a warrior, posing as still as he had before the song began. His chest heaved and sweat poured down his broad, smiling face. I joined my family and the crowd in cheering for him, proud to be his niece. Dancers like him and moments like these are what keep our culture alive. This is why I love...

...George Alan O'Dowd at Barnehurst Hospital in Bexley, Kent on 14 June 1961, to Gerald and Dinah O'Dowd, who were originally from Thurles, County Tipperary in Ireland. He is one of six children. His siblings are Richard, Kevin, David, Gerald, and Siobhan. He was a follower of the New Romantic movement which was popular in Britain in the early 1980s. George and his friend Marilyn were regulars at The Blitz, a trendy London nightclub run by Steve Strange of the group Visage. George and Marilyn also worked at the nightclub as cloakroom attendants. Boy George's androgynous style of dressing caught the attention of music executive Malcolm McLaren, who arranged for George to perform with the group Bow Wow Wow, featuring Annabella Lwin. Boy George's tenure with Bow Wow Wow proved quite popular, much to the dismay of Lwin, the group's actual lead singer. His association ended soon afterwards and he started his own group with bassist Mikey Craig. Next came Jon Moss (who had drumming stints with The Damned and Adam and the Ants), and then Roy Hay. The group called themselves In Praise of Lemmings, but the name was later abandoned, and they settled on the name Culture Club The band recorded demos that were paid for by EMI Records but the label declined to sign them. Virgin Records expressed interest in signing the group in the UK, while Epic Records would handle the US distribution. They recorded their debut album Kissing to Be Clever and it was released in 1982. The single...

...Introduction Businesses are increasingly looking to expand into farther flung overseas markets like India, expecting to achieve rates of growth which are rarely achieved in saturated and depressed Western markets. However, it is important that businesses consider carefully the different types of expansion models available to them and are prepared to take a flexible approach to their international expansion strategy, taking account of local legal restrictions and fast changing consumer habits and expectations. As this briefing note explains, the choice of a corporate expansion model or an arm's length expansion model such as franchising can have a direct impact on a business's ability to engage in e-commerce within the local market. India is a case in point, where, despite the recent growth in online sales, the Indian Government has reaffirmed its policy on e-commerce in the retail sector, which restricts foreign brands from participating in local e-commerce if they hold shares in the Indian operating company. The Need for a Consistent Approach to Multi-Channel Retailing Historically, the majority of brands expanding internationally have been preoccupied with the "bricks and mortar" channel of distribution, based upon an assumption that the target local market is less technologically mature. This may have been a fair assumption as recently as three to five years ago, and it is still holds true in an increasingly limited number of countries. However, improvements in access...

...The work of art I have chosen is The Swing by Jean Honore-Fragonard. My main reason for picking this specific Rococo style art work is due to the underlying symbolism within this painting and the provocative scene it is portraying. of or relating to an artistic style especially of the 18th century characterized by fanciful curved asymmetrical forms and elaborate ornamentation So here we have a young girl on the swing flying carelessly through the air, pushed from behind by an old man. Her right slipper flies, oh so conveniently, off her foot and suddenly the young man, lounging in the low bush, enjoying the view above him, comes into view. In fact, he is looking right up her frothy pink and cream skirt! So you see, it is a conspiracy of the two lovers whose flirtatious little game goes not only unnoticed by the old man, but where he is in fact an active participant in this concealed peep show. Furthermore, the painting is filled with symbolism. In the 18th century France, a woman’s shoeless foot symbolized nudity, as did the man’s uncovered head and his hat, reaching towards the young girl’s parted legs. “Dolphins driven by cupids drawing the water-chariot of Venus symbolize the impatient surge of love.”* And now look at Cupid’s pose. The god of desire, erotic love, attraction and affection watches on with an all-knowing smile – he knows what’s really going on, and he implores your silence. And so, this otherwise innocent little childhood game is suddenly filled...

...The Way of WoW One of my sad addictions is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (mmorpg) named World of Warcraft (WoW). It has amassed over 12 million subscribers. It has addicted many people, killed a few, and yet married others. But how does one actually start playing this “crack cocaine” of the gaming world. I’ll take you thru the basic ins and outs of starting your addiction in this essay. Yes, this essay is the gateway drug to WoW, and I’ll be your dealer. First you’ll need the actual hardware and software. I won’t go too much into detail here. You’ll need a very comfortable mouse as you will be clicking and moving that little piece of pointer magic until your fingers lose all sense of feeling and they fall off. Then you’ll need to make sure your computer and video cards can handle this beasty! You can easily find the system requirements on the WoW website ( www.worldofwarcraft.com). The next portion is the actual software. There is currently the main game and two expansions, The Burning Crusade and The Lich King, with a much anticipated third installment called Cataclysm which is due out on December 7th of this year. Install all that as well as a few gigs of patches and you are ready to start your “noob” status. Noobs is a terminology used by many gamers to signify new players, or players who don’t know how to play well. The last part of setting yourself up for the technical part of the addiction is to set up a monthly subscription with the software company...

...‘’WOW MOMENT’’! By Dii0909 What is a ‘’wow moment’’? Wow moment for each person is different and is depend from their dreams, feelings and expectations. For some ‘’wow moment’’ is child birth or good holidays, for others is one day in bed. We all are individual personalities and we all are so different, isn’t it? That is a reason why ‘’wow moment’’ for each person will be different. My ‘’wow moment’’ is my honey week in Egypt. Beautiful Egypt First of all, why Egypt is my wow moment it is because I never been in there before. Egypt is very beautiful country and same time very dangerous. I did spend my honey week with my husband in Hurghada, which is a beach resort town stretching some 40 km along Egypt’s Red Sea cost. It’s removed for scuba diving and has lots of diving shops. There are many different restaurants, night clubs and coffee shops. There are water is so blue like sky and sun is so big like beach ball. There are dolphins and very kind, smiling people who can speak around five different languages, including Russian, which is my language. There, every night, are fantastic shows for different taste and age. Real Egypt Secondly, Egypt is my wow moment because a contrast what you can see when you going somewhere out in town. There you can see other side of this country –rubbish on streets, poverty, soldiers and police around. Some houses look like a big scrap yards where everything placed somewhere around. There are lot of unfinished houses and people...

...wow 1. Define consumer behavior. Consumer behavior – activities people undertake when obtaining, consuming, and disposing of products and services. 2. Why is consumption a key to understanding why consumers buy products Consuming means how, where, when, and under what circumstances consumers use products. For example, issues relating to consumption might include decisions about whether consumers use products at home or at the office. Researchers have focused on consumption analysis, which refers why and how people use products in addition to why and how they buy. Consumption analysis is a broader conceptual framework than buyer behavior because it includes issues that arise after the purchase process occurs – issues that often affect how people buy and the satisfaction they receive from their purchases. 3. What types of questions are answered by studying consumer behavior? 1. Why did you choose the school at which you are now studying? 2. Why did you buy your clothes from Abercrombie and Fitch, Old Navy, Benetton or any thousands of other retail stores? 3. How do you allocate the twenty-four hours of each day between studying, working, watching television, sleeping, working out in a gym, and watching or participating in a sport? 4. Do you usually cook your food from scratch, microwave it, or buy it already cooked in a restaurant to eat there or take home? Why do you eat certain types...

...The origin of language in the human species has been the topic of scholarly discussions for several centuries. One linguistic theory concerning the origin of language is the "Natural-sound source theory", that hypothesizes that primitive language are imitations of the natural sounds which early human heard from around them. This is also called the "Bow-wow theory". Yet, some argue that the theory does not necessarily offers a scientific explanation of the origin of language, and it still remains controversial. The "Bow-wow theory" states that language began when our ancients imitated the animal sounds. For example, if an animal passed by a human and made a certain sound, the human would try to imitate the sound that which the animal did. In fact, all modern languages have some words which seems to echo naturally occurring sounds. In English for instance, there are onomatopoetic words like meow, hiss, buzz, roar and oink, which phonetically imitates the source of the sound that it describes. Nevertheless, it is somehow difficult to see how most of the soundless and abstract objects in the world could have been given names if language simply echoed natural sounds. The theory fail to explain the presence of abstract words, such as love, kindness, evil and etc., which leads the theory to contradict itself. Another counter argument against this theory is that relatively few words in any language are onomatopoeic, and they are not the same across all language. For example, a dog's...

...The Wow Project In the new economy, all work is project work. And you are your projects! Here’s how to make them all go Wow! First appeared: FC24, p.116 BY TOM PETERS I learned about the future of work by living in the projects — the kind of projects you routinely do at a professional-services firm. More years ago than I care to remember, I reported to the offices of McKinsey & Co. in San Francisco for my first day as a professional management consultant. At 9 a.m., I started to work. At 3 p.m. that afternoon, I was on an airplane to Clinton, Iowa to work on a project that involved an investment in a $150 million petrochemical plant, and even if you’d spotted me four letters, I couldn’t have spelled “petrochemical.” But that was life — in the projects. Fast-forward 25 years. All white-collar work is project work. The single salient fact that touches all of our lives is that work is being reinvented. The workplace revolution that transformed the lives of blue-collar workers in the 1970s and 1980s is finally reaching the offices and cubicles of the white-collar workers. For the blue-collar worker, the driving force behind change was factory automation using programmable machine tools. For the office worker, it’s office automation using computer technology: enterprise-resource-planning systems, groupware, intranets, extranets, expert systems, the Web, and e-commerce. After decades of wholesale neglect, companies are finally facing the fact of pathetic white-collar productivity...

...Identify and describe 3 or more distinct market segments within a specific industry, such as aerospace or automobile manufacturing. What differences are apparent? Why would this matter to a marketer? There are many approaches the automobile manufacturing companys take to consideration. I picked this because I am looking at buying a new car and while making small talk with the saleman I asked him this question. I got a lot of usefull information that relates to this question. There are many ways that a segment can be considered. For example, the auto market could be broke down or segmented into : driver age, engine size, model type, cost, and so on. However the more general bases include: By geography - such as where in the world was the product bought. Example America or Foreign By psychographics - such as lifestyle or beliefs. Example Cadilac or Hummer high class people. By socio-cultural factors - such as class. By demography - such as age, sex, and so on. A example of demography would be mini vans for family soccer moms type. Trucks for the working guy. A company will evaluate each segment based upon potential business success.Opportunities will depend upon factors such as: the potential growth of the segment the state of competitive rivalry within the segment how much profit the segment will deliverhow big the segment is how the segment fits with the current direction of the companyand its vision. I also researched hotels and seen that there is a similarity with cars and...
