These are very good step to take on writing. As in step one, I do believe the writer need to be passionate about the subject they are writing about. It makes it easier to write. You have be careful not to ramble because you have so much to say. I find this hard sometime in writing. Keeping writing simple will help the reader see what you are meaning to say. As I am writing a paper I find it is hard to cut things out because I have a certain way I am going with the paper. If I can’t see how to keep going that way and cut stuff out it is hard. Sometime I have to cut everything out but the subject and really think about what I want to say. I slowly add things in. Therefore this is where step 6 comes in, say what you mean. This is sometimes

Writing is an artful way of communicating human experience. Paul Graham once said “Writing doesn’t communicate ideas; it generates them. Who Am I

...Style and Substance/Joseph Couch 1 Introduction Academic Writing with Style and Substance Offering Opinions and Exchanging Ideas Understanding the Difference Much writing on the Internet, for high school, and for general purposes contains the personal opinions of writers. As a result, some of the phrases below are very common in these writing situations: “To me,” “I think” “Personally,” “For me,” “It is this writer’s opinion” Style and Substance/Joseph Couch 2 While everyone has a right to a personal opinion, relying on opinion in college writing usually means hiding behind that right rather than facing the fact that others can question a writer’s ideas. As a result, the common defense of “that’s my opinion” does not matter much as a reason to support an essay’s ideas. What does matter for a class that requires a textbook such as this one is writing that shows critical thought and (often) outside research. The first step towards writing with these qualities is an understanding that it does not stand alone as an opinion. In fact, college-level writing acknowledges and engages with the ideas of others who have also often done some critical thinking and outside research on the topic. Essentially, college professors want essays that exchange ideas with other readers and writers rather than present ideas on the level of opinions. This is not to say that a student’s ideas do not count in college writing. The process to a completed paper does often begin with one’s own...

Once you get an understanding of what and how you plan to write, you should follow four steps. These steps include begin with a point, support the thesis, organize and connect the evidence, and write clear, error free sentences (Bethel University, n.d.). Step one is to begin with a main point. One must first determine what they want to center their essay on. Once this is determined, this will take the paper where you want it to go. The writer should research their topic completely and support their thesis. Step three is to organize the details. A writer should make sure their essay flows easily. This includes making sure the sentences make sense, as well as proper wording is used. Step four is to use sentences that are free of mistakes. A writer should always make sure they are using the correct nouns, verbs, tense, etc. They should also make sure that grammar and spelling is checked before submitting the essay. The first part of a grant proposal is the abstract. This is a 45 line max summary of what the agency is about. The abstract section may be the shortest part of the proposal, but it is the most read, which makes it the most important of the whole proposal. With the abstract being the most important part of the whole proposal, it is vital that the writer be very vigilant and professional in writing out this portion. The Importance Of Writing

...In high school, I hated writing essays for my English classes. At first, I did not have a reliable writing process. I would free write a rough draft and turn it in as a final draft. I would also write last minute instead of using the time to create a well-thought essay. I focused more on passing a class rather than boosting my writing skills. Now that I am in college, I take writing seriously. Throughout the years, my writing process has drastically changed. As a writer, I will continue to advance my writing skills. Prewriting is significant when preparing for an essay, although this step is most of the time ignored. The process of writing is just as important as the writing itself. Prewriting is great for writers to have an organized essay. Sectioning the writing process can make writing less stressful and gives the writer more time to go back and improve their paper. Grant Writing

...establishing funds for nonprofits is grant writing. Grant writing can be a very long and tedious process. Getting a grant takes time, patients, and great writing skills. I have family members who work for nonprofits that dread what I call “grant writing season” it’s that time of year in a nonprofit company when it is time to start writing for as many grants as you can get. The first step in grant writing; the nonprofit company must research what funding is available for their type of nonprofit. This is a very important step; most nonprofits rely on grants to help them in some way pay for the next year. If the company does not do their research correctly they could miss a great opportunity. Interestingly enough, not only does the federal government offer grants but so do professional organizations, private industries, and private foundations (Berger & Moore, 2011, pp. 167-168). Therefore, the grant writer should make sure they do enough research on all the possible grants that would be offered for the nonprofit. After the grant writer has decided which grants might benefit the company, they then have to go through and write each grant individually. This is due to the fact that each funder will have different objectives, and goals, the company must make sure that all of their ideas a goals line up with the funders. If this is not the case then the funder will not give the grant to that nonprofit company. There are several ways a grant writer can make sure that their grant is written...

Becoming a Writer

...BECOMING A WRITER January of 2011 was the beginning of a special adventure in my life as a student. I took an English class 0890, at Utah Valley University. Now, in the last days of this class, almost four months later, I can look back and see myself with a lot of problems in my writing that needed to be fixed. These four months in this class have helped me solve many writing challenges. I am far from perfect in becoming a good writer but I have learned that hard work and perseverance can produce wonderful results. Even though I learned many things, the three man points that I want to talk about are the following: quote analysis scaffold, grammar, and research online. The first month of the English 0890 class was intense, the students had to do a special analysis writing exercise called “Quote analysis scaffold”. It is the developing of many skills in one exercise. It helps develop reading and vocabulary comprehension. After the quote analysis scaffold is made, it can be used in the essay as a hook or concluding thought. We ended up doing around ten of these exercises. After writing the quote, provided from the teacher, this analysis was made from the following steps: The first thing was to do a research online about the author and make two to three sentences, on average, about who he was and what were his major contributions to society. Second, the students had to look for unknown words and their definition in the dictionary. After this, the third part was for the students...

Pain

...Pain to Pleasure: Three Steps to Quality Writing On the list of fun things to do, many students rank writing an essay somewhere between getting a root canal and studying for finals.  But why does writing get such a bum rap?  Perhaps it is because students frequently get back marked up papers with lower-than-expected grades and, therefore, cringe whenever the next essay comes along.  This experience, however, is completely avoidable.  By learning to master essay organization, idea development, and basic formatting guidelines, most students can take the three biggest steps toward more successful writing.   In the typical five-paragraph essay (like this one), the writer organizes his or her work around a thesis statement and three body paragraphs.  Look how this essay starts with a sentence designed to generate some interest and to engage the reader.  By the end of that introduction paragraph, the writer gets to his thesis statement: the best one- or two-sentence summary of the essay as a whole.  Because this thesis statement mentions that there are three main steps to improving writing (organization, development, and formatting), the reader should expect one body paragraph for each of those three main ideas.  Likewise, please note that this paragraph is solely about organization—the first of those three ideas mentioned. While organization is crucial, the element that really separates excellent writing from decent writing is development.  Good writers do not just mention an...

Personal Narrative: My Writing Process

...of the year to now, the end of the year, my writing process and skills have dramatically changed. My writing process coming into junior year was not vigorous; I would not begin the pre-write and just go straight into the writing process. Regrettably, I would procrastinate till the last night to actually begin my writing, therefore, I would rush my writing process. In addition, my evidence and commentary was poor. With this being the process for me as a writer, of course, my worse essay was the first writing assignment, the non-fiction essay. This piece of writing was a mess and I am pretty positive I did not even read over it after I was done. Luckily, I changed my habits over the course of the year and began organizing my time and writing better....
