...“Where I Was’ Reflection Colby Gordillo ITT Tech GS 1145 Bart Demeter July 5, 2014 “Where I Was” Reflection . A few years ago I graduated from high school, and started working in the factory industry one month after. A few months later I attended college at Grand Rapids Community College. At that time, I did not know I was going to fail and drop out three times at that same college. And, then attend two other colleges. All of this had happened in the past 4 years. The reason as to why I had failed so many times was that I was not ready for school. I felt that I was ready because of just finishing high school, and that I would have that same mentality. Apparently I was wrong about that and it took me a few years to realize that. The first time I attended GRCC; I completed the first four weeks and then I dropped out. The second time I attended GRCC; I had to get off suspension and then I completed about two months, until I dropped out again. After that, I took a year off from school. When a year had passed I tried to return but I was on suspension once again. This time I was suspended from school and financial aid. By that time, I realized that I had dug a hole after my first fall out and it just got bigger. This hole had gotten so big, that I saw no point in attending GRCC anymore. I tried out the University of Phoenix and completed the first quarter with an A and B. I decided I didn’t like the online experience. Less than a month after, I signed up for ITT Tech. I...

...general public sees them as a disinterested, idealistic and without any dependency. But the notion deserves more investigation. Governments’ puppets? The reason why they name themselves non-governmental is due to exercising things which government will not or cannot do. However, NGOs have a big deal to do with government and it is not always healthy. As a former deputy director of USAID, Carol Lancaster, announced, NGOs have become ,,the most important constituency for the activities of development aid agencies’’, as witnessed in Albania. The Red Cross sums up that NGOs send out more money than the World Bank. Governments happily provide that money. All, world wide-known organisations, get lots of their income from government sources. If the public get more stingy, such official contribution will go on. Latter educated young people do not give away so much money from their income as their parents did and still do. In Africa, western governments have long been moving their aid towards NGOs. They have been considered generally more open and efficient. The new head of UN’s Development Programme says the body ,,will put a lot more emphasis...

...Islamic religion would perceive it to be just normal to include them in their diet. For the nurse, who follow Jainism it is despicable, but the Christian or Muslim nurse would believe that they are the essential components of their daily diet. Such code of ethics of an individual is developed and refined from the social and cultural background from childhood to adulthood. Every human being initiates to develop ethical standard or character virtually from birth. As they go through developmental phases, they are taught right from wrong, generate empathy for others through interactive observations and understand as to how to behave in a style that is appropriately. They cultivate different perceptions, philosophies, cultural outlooks and distinct ethical concepts, as they go through real life experiences. I attained the basic knowledge of life basically from my parents, church, schools; right from kindergarten, books and from personal reflections. The principles and morals developed over time shaped me as what I am today and help me to interact effectively in society. Some folks follow heroes and heroines as a role model. Specific values, doctrines, political outlooks are formed throughout the developmental stages in everybody’s lifetime. ...organization are important indicators of that organizations true value. It is important that those decisions reflect good ethics for the success of the organization. Values and ethics, can be summarized and have many meanings to everyone, but they both start off with strong definitions. In an education setting, the word value means “worth in usefulness or importance to the possessor; utility or merit” (American, 2000). When it comes down to it value, is the worth of something and what it means to a person. It can be an assignment due, an old photograph, or something that a person’s parent has given them. The word ethics has a couple of definitions that can fit it perfectly; one is “the study of principles relating to right and wrong conduct.” The other definition is “The standards that govern the conduct of a person, especially a member of a profession”...

...produced graduates of colleges that do not fit the present demand of the economy, or the graduates were not capable of achieving the required skills the industry needs. The incompatibility of graduates to meet the competencies needed by companies may be due to wrong preference of courses (Rosero, 2012). A major turning point in an adolescents' lives involves the career choice that they make while in high school. These decision are mostly influenced by the family and community of a student which plays a major role in establishing a career path that opens as well as closes opportunities (Bluestein, Phillips, Jobin-Davis, Finkelberg, & Roarke, 1997). There a lot of factors that could affect a student's decision in choosing their courses. There are uncontrollable elements such as location, cost, distance and availability of financial aid (Jackson, 1982). However, some Colleges, set standards before accepting students to a particular course; hence, this can alter student’s decision especially those with academic issues. These standards include student background (Jackson, 1982), objectives (Chapman, 1984;Jackson1982), educational achievement (Hanson & Litten,1982), social environment (Hossler & Gallagher,1987), financial capabilities (St. John, 1990;1991), net cost (St. John & Starkey,1995), institutional climate (Chapman,1984), and institutional characteristics (Hanson & Litten, 1982;Hossler et al,.1989). ...medication taking in the elderly and the implications of caring for such patients within the community setting. The model of reflection that I have based my writing upon is Gibbs’ model of reflection (Gibbs 1998) which I feel allows me best, in a methodical and logical way, to explore my thoughts and feelings, to evaluate the care delivery and to reflect upon my actions and those of others. Lily (pseudonym NMC, 2008) was referred to the Rapid Response Team by her General Practitioner with pneumonia; Lily has longstanding respiratory and mental health problems. Rapid Response Teams are part of Intermediate Care, formed as a result of the implementation of the National Service Framework for Older People (DOH, 2002) to prevent unnecessary hospital admission during episodes of acute illness. Lily’s GP had requested that we visit to prompt medication and generally provide assistance during this time. I visited Lily with a colleague, prompted her medication as prescribed and asked if she had taken her other medications that morning. Lily’s other medications were in a dosette box, an aid memoir to medication administration used when multiple drugs are prescribed; each box contains an entire weeks medication and is prefilled by a registered pharmacist (McGraw, Dennan 2001). Lily had two such boxes, one which she had started that morning and had taken the wrong day and one from the previous week that still contained various amounts of medication. On questioning it transpired...

...JDT2 Task 3 A1. Benefits There is significant purpose behind performance appraisals and they should be taken seriously to be effective for the employee and the employer. The main benefits that can result from a well performed performance appraisal is increased communication, understanding employees goals, and that it provides an opportunity for the employee to learn about what they are doing well, and where they can improve. “An effective appraisal may not only eliminate behavior and work-quality problems, it can motivate an employee to contribute more” (Bigelow, 2014). Overall this reflects well on the employee because it provides them with clear direction in where they need to be headed as far as organizational goals and personal goals are concerned. In addition it provides the employee with an understanding of their personal strengths and weaknesses as well as what their role is in the organization. Appraisals offer designated time where the employee and their supervisor are able to communicate and create a common ground for the both of them to know where each person is coming from. This in turn benefits the employer because the employee then knows the path they are on and how they can improve themselves or keep up the hard work they are already doing for the company. Appraisals when delivered well provide the employer the opportunity to recognize the employee for any achievements. This strengthens the employee-company relationship substantially. Having a designated time...

The white working class, like their Latino and black counterparts, but to a lesser extent, has endured decades of savage neoliberal globalization. Their jobs have been shipped overseas. Their retirements have been plundered. As a result, their neighborhoods and childhood communities have crumbled and fallen prey to drug addiction and gang violence. They're frustrated and upset, and for good reason, but at all the wrong people and...

...my role as a violinist is not easy. I am often conflicted by my role as a low-income student playing the violin. By becoming a violinist, I am exposed to musicians whose high-income families are able to afford countless violin lessons. There is a rule or assumption that by becoming a violinist, you must constantly receive violin lessons every week. Due to my family’s financial situation, that is impossible. While there is financial aid in joining the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra, I find it difficult to socialize with people who constantly receive violin lessons. For instance, people would praise my playing and proceed to ask who my teacher is. I respond to tell the teacher who I have not visited for a while. On the other side, being a part of the program has positively affected my academics. For example, my English teacher regularly attends the Richmond Youth Symphony Orchestra concerts...

...Boeing versus Airbus: The ‘endless’ crusade for continuation of subsidy! (A case study) Case reviewer: Angelica Sharma* Brought up in a family in which my parents were always ready to help anyone, closely or even remotely related to them, but not without being duly satisfied about the urgency, righteousness / desirability of assistance (mostly financial) that was asked for, I have, overtime, come to view non-market incentives like subsidies, grants and tariffs from a mind-set that I have found moulded in their company. I look upon my parents as really great protagonists of market-economy without undermining their sense of sympathy and concern for the hapless lot around them in that country, they proudly refer to as India. They always made a distinction between who deserved and who did not deserve the favour that has been asked for. And also, they were particular to find out when, in what form, how much and for how long the assistance, if any, was to be there. Strangely, even to day, they remorsefully recall the few instances of having wasted their scarce productive resources on individuals who, they later-on found, never wanted to be on their own. But they did learn a lesson from these experiences. I have grown in such family environment of respect for merit, hard work and self-pride. It is endowed with this sense that I intend to ponder over the Boeing-Airbus subsidy-related trade-rift and comment on the perceptions, policies, arguments and counter-arguments...
