It was through Appendix F in which I arrived at my first career choice, physician, and my three viable alternatives, mental health counselor, pharmacist, and occupational therapist. Across the top of the blank matrix title, Career Decision-Making Matrix, I listed the occupational prospects in which I had researched. The occupational prospects were: physician, mental health counselor, emergency medical technician, occupational therapist, pharmacist, and school counselor. Down the left side of the matrix list, I listed ten work values I want expressed, and 10 abilities I want to use in my occupation. I gave a weight number to each work value and work ability by using the rank-order system. I then used a code showing whether each of my occupation prospects was very positive (++), positive (+), neutral (0), or negative (-) in relation to each work value or ability listed. …show more content…
The product of my multiplication inside the parentheses was written to the right of each code mark. I obtained a total score by totally the products for each occupation. I obtained the total ideal score, 220, by adding all of the numbers in the weights column (values and abilities), and then multiplying the sum by two. I then compared each occupational prospect with the total idea score by divided the total number of points for each occupation by the total idea score. Physician had the highest ideal score out of all of the occupations. Ideally, this would be my first career choice. The idea score was 188 and the percentage was 85.5. Out of the ten work values, only one value did not have either a positive or very positive relation to this occupation. That work value was predictable work. Time spent with each patient is unpredictable. Every patient’s problem is unique and requires different amounts of attention. It is difficult to assign a fixed amount of time for a consolation or
