...EBay is one of the largest E-tailers on the internet. I am personally an EBay addict, not going to lie. EBay works like this, First you set up an account with them for the most part EBay Sellers want you to use PayPal as a secure form of payment. So you need to set up that account as well, when you have your accounts set up you is ready to buy and sell. When selling, EBay takes a percentage of the money made and takes that as a charge for you selling your things. When buying, you just purchase with your PayPal. Once payment is received by the seller the product is shipped. The disadvantages to using EBay are the security of it; you sell to the highest bidder and try to get the lowest price when shopping. If someone were to hack the mainframe Server tons of people would have loss of money, identity, and product. Advantages would be the fact that EBay is a great way to shop and sell. The fact that the payment is separated from the actual EBay site itself is good; it serves as better security to protect buyers and sellers. One other disadvantage to EBay is the program itself to selling items. The site is very non-user friendly, meaning, it is very hard to use. It could use some improvements in this area, to simplify the site and the selling products site. I do have an etail business, I do not have eBay because I believe it is more for Electronics and Cars, I sell crafts. I use a site designed around homemade arts called, Etsy. It is a lot cheaper as well as user...

For an individual to sell an item on eBay, a seller must first create an eBay account and a PayPal account. Once the eBay account is created the seller can upload a picture and provide a brief description of the item that he or she wishes to sell. The seller can choose the price of an item to include prices for shipping and returning. Once the item is posted the seller has the option to pay an additional fee to include a “Buy It Now” tab. The “Buy It Now” tab allows buyers to purchase an item for a specific price rather than waiting until the closing time of an item. If the buyers choose to place bids on an item, the seller then can determine which bids for an item he or she wishes to take (eBay, 2011). Some advantages to both small and large scale sellers with eBay is the website’s popularity. There are over 180 million members, creating an enormous market for sellers. Another advantage of eBay to both small and large scale sellers is the convenience. Sellers can post items to sell without worrying about following internet regulation and policies. Some of the disadvantages for both small scale and large scale sellers are the profit losses associated with eBay. ...A Microfinance MIS: Mifos Database STUDENT University of Phoenix BIS 219 Introduction to Business Information Systems INSTRUCTOR DATE A Microfinance MIS: Mifos Database Mifos is a management information system designed to microfinance institutions in developing countries. Management information systems (MIS), such as Mifos “deal with the planning for, development, management, and use of information technology tools to help people perform all tasks related to information processing and management” (Rainer & Turban, 2008, p.24). Mifos allows running social and business reports as well as analysis, managing clients, savings, and loans portfolio. Mifos offers several advantages to its users such as efficiency and ease, growth and scalability, social and business impact, flexibility and agility, security and data integrity, among others. Mifos runs on top of a MySQL database (Grameen Foundation, 2008). A MySQL database is commonly used in web applications and for data storage and logging of user data (i.e. Facebook). The Mifos database definitely has structures for account authentication, authorization, and administration. The above operations are usually grouped together under one component of the application. The bulk of the application is used to review loan officers, branches, loans, and so forth; so, there will be tables for each of those. Those tables will hold the data that supports the business logic for the application. Mifos includes also...

...Problems at JetBlue P March 16th, 2011 Dr Problems at JetBlue The problems at JetBlue Airlines was a problem that I've seen other companies nationwide. This problem was 100% management responsibility, because they control everything including what technology gets implemented, and the training the employees receive. I've seen so many companies shortcut their infrastructure to save money only to have situations like the one like JetBlue Airlines had cripple their businesses. I like the saying “You never get a second chance to make a first pressure” reminds me of this situation with JetBlue Airlines. Their reputation has probably been permanently tarnished because management skipped several key information systems they should've installed early on. When creating a company in the airline industry, the correct thing and create a business model that takes into account disaster strategies and scenarios. There are plenty of other companies they could have modeled themselves after whose experience situations like this before. It would make better sense to play it safe when the storms rolling in to divert flights to other cities, and offer free flight back to the in convenience passengers to help lessen the hassle and inconvenience many of them were going to experience. Being forced t and information infrastructure within a week of major disaster does not give JetBlue Airlines proper testing of the infrastructures to see what works and what doesn't, but I do believe they have...

...Web 2.0 XBIS/219 Web 2.0 How would you describe Web 2.0 to someone who has not taken a course in information systems? What are the advantages and disadvantages of Web 2.0? How has Web 2.0 impacted business? The best way to explain Web 2.0 to someone lacking the knowledge thereof, should first understand that Web 2.0 is not a new type of web, it is more of an enhancement of the web experience by a vast collection of information technologies and applications that allows web users to interact socially, collaboratively, and more or less the ability to participate with ease, as these technologies and applications encourage users to do so. Web 2.0 allows Web users to be a part of the development and growth of different websites and the web, instead of just visiting a website and browsing through its information. Different applications and information technologies include Wikis, Mashups, Tagging, Blogs and blogging abilities, Podcasting and video uploading, etc (R. Kelly Rainer & Turban, 2009). A few disadvantages of Web 2.0 is the fact that communication and sharing of information has now become unrestricted. This means that copyrighted material caqn now be infringed upon and even altered. Web 2.0 has made it to where users are more dependent on its technologies for research and information, socializing, etc. There are also a lot of unsecure websites that use Web 2.0 technologies and that poses a lot of threats as well, including accounts being hacked, spam, viruses...

...Web 2.0 Check Point Patrick W. Crowe XBIS/219 July 13, 2012 Brian Hoying Web 2.0 Check Point Web 2.0 is the term given to describe a second generation of the World Wide Web that is focused on the ability for people to collaborate and share information online. The Web 2.0 emphasizes the interaction of users by networking, blogging, and tagging, just to name a few features. Basically, Web 2.0 is the present-day World Wide Web that we use every day. The advantages of Web 2.0 are that more individuals are interacting, anywhere and anytime, at any place in the world. This allows for more interactions among different companies in different parts of the world, such as B2B commerce over the Internet. Disadvantages to Web 2.0 could be that of Wiki's; users can change information that had been posted to the Wiki. This information could be false or misleading. For marketers, Web 2.0 offers an opportunity to engage consumers. A growing number of marketers are using Web 2.0 tools to communicate with consumers on product development, service enhancement and promotion. Companies can use Web 2.0 tools to improve collaboration with both its business partners and consumers. Among other things, company employees have also created wikis to list answers to frequently asked questions about each product, and consumers have added significant contributions. This is an interesting address for Web 2.0---...

...Week 2 Checkpoint/Organizational Data and Information Daniel Barr XBIS/219 July 6, 2012 Shawn Rieder Week 2 Checkpoint/Organizational Data and Information Based on the information located on the BIRT Sample Database website, the software allows the user the ability to track many aspects of the defined business. It includes eight different tables. Offices, employees, customers, orders, order details, payments, products, and product lines. By using this software program the user can generate reports based on the data entered. The website also includes an ER-diagram which shows the different departments or types of data and how they are tied to other departments. The software allows for data to be entered by multiple sources, such as different stores and incorporates that data and combines that information to give the company a better picture of the entire company. Of course, information generated by data entry is only as good as the data entered. It is critical that companies train employees to correctly enter data into the system. Incorrect data entered into the system will generate reports that will not be accurate. There are several options available for companies. One option would be to purchase software for data management. Another option which is steadily growing is hiring a firm to store your data as well as manage the data as well. ...Week 7 2012 Internet Privacy Web Privacy Danielle Worrell XBIS/219 Internet Privacy When it comes to the privacy issues of the internet, I expect to have privacy and security. This is not possible in some instances though. When I use the internet in a public place such as the library, I know that there are many users on there and others may see what I do. This goes along with work as well. They have a secure web but can monitor your usage of the internet therefore seeing anything that you are doing on their internet. Others may not know your security settings for a specific site but it can be saved on a proxy or cookie in the computer. I know that when accessing the web I take my chances even when using it at home, as others can figure out how to sign in on my Wi-Fi. For example, I remember in school when using the computer lab all computers were connected together using the web and you could open a document from any computer using a user name and password. All the documents and usage were saved on a main computer, which was the teacher’s computer. When it comes to being at home and using a Wi-Fi connection, you should have your own connection. It is not legal to use anyone else’s connection unless you have permission from that person to use it. If you see an unsecure network, it is not ethical to use unless you have permission but at the same time, you are able to connect without a pass code. You information and anything you do can be seen by the one who whose...

...The Amazon Evolution Holly Guerra XBIS/219 In order to increase their profit, Amazon decided to extend its services to other companies. By doing this, they get money from the other company as well as the customer and the participating company has a new way to advertise, offer and sell their products through Amazon. In a way they have revolutionized online retail because they are widely known for providing a large variety of goods to consumers through the convenience of the internet. Amazon’s solution to make their infrastructure available to companies and hire individuals to help them run the technical and logistical parts of their businesses has made a great difference. They provided three services,Simple Storage Service (S3), the Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), and the Mechanical Turk. Amazon charges per Gigabyte per month for businesses to store data and applications on Amazon’s disk drives. They also have people who power their networks so that they can keep an eye out for inappropriate content in images or transcribing audio which are duties that are not able to be done by computers. As a result, thousands of companies are using Amazon services for everything from sales to advertising. Amazon has a wide variety of competitors online such as Wal-Mart, Google, and Yahoo. The edge that amazon has over the rest is that Amazon has the advantage of having everything...

...CheckPoint Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Nicole Helle XBIS/219 Hann So Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) The Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is an abstract model used in project management that describes the stages involved in an information system development project from an initial practical study through maintenance of the completed application. Software development, which was developed many years ago, consisted of a programmer writing code to solve a problem or automate a procedure. Now systems are so big and abstract that teams of analysts, programmers, testers and users must work together to produce the millions of lines of custom code which drive operations. The following is the SDLC models which were created, the seven structures are: waterfall, fountain, and spiral, build and fix, rapid prototyping, incremental and synchronize and stabilize. The SDLC makes certain that all structures provide the standardized process for all the phases of any system development effort. These phases are in specific order and must be completed step by step. The first step is planning. A systems analyst, who may work outside of the company or be an outside consultant, will outline a proposed system, develop a budget and create a detailed development schedule. This helps the company to understand the problem fully and in detail of all the requirements of an information systems solution. Others responsible for the systems development is an upper...

...Internet Privacy Deborah Elser XBIS/219 BUSINESS INFORMATION SYSTEMS March 31, 2010 Veronica Sims My expectations for Internet privacy differ greatly depending on where I am using the Internet. When at home, I know who is using my computer and who has access to the Internet. When I am on the Internet, I use what I believe to be secure websites. I pay my bills online and use the various companies secure sites. I expect these companies to use my information that I provide to pay the bill and for nothing else. I have not allowed these companies to take my information and sell it. These company sites guarantee that my information is protected. I do not open e-mails from unknown senders and I do not go to questionable sites. I have security measures in place on my computer; firewalls and antivirus software that I update regularly. My administrative laptop that I use at work is for work related e-mails and Internet use only. My expectations for Internet privacy on-the-job are strictly work related. I know that I do not go outside of the parameters, so there is no problem. I know that my email account for work is protected, as I work, indirectly, for a government agency. I do not use library computers or go to Wi-Fi zones, but if I did, I would know to be careful and only access sites that I know are secure. I also would not be free with my personal information. I personally, do not trust using these public computers. I have used the computers at the campus...
