McDonalds was my first exposure to the business world, and how they were structured. The McDonald’s I worked for was franchised, with the owner also acting as the CEO for that particular store. Below the CEO was the store manager, then the store manager’s assistant, followed by supervisors. They had very strict set guidelines to follow and the outline of the structure was very obvious. Had the executive, managers, shift leads, employees and rookies. If any issues came up you had to talk to the manager or if the manager had issues with you they came and told you. Was very tense environment and didn’t seem like an employee or rookie could speak their minds. Now this structure compared to say a school environment and a dairy farm environment would be good to compare and contrast. Within a school environment everyone is treated the same with respect and everyone listens to each other and if someone has an idea to make the system run better they are open to it. Just because there is a high power (principle) doesn’t mean his way is the only way. He just is the deciding factor on whether it is going to be the right thing for the school or something that will harm the school too much. With working for the Dairy they are little in and out it seems on their organizations structure. With a dairy farm it is broken down from bosses to managers to shift leads and employees but there is little to no room for advancement within the company once an employee always an employee no matter the length of time that have worked for the company.
