Management teams are finding out that there is a world of ethical challenges waiting to be discovered through the increased development of globalization. If ethics are a problem within a country, imagine the challenges that arise when the language is foreign, cultures are diverse, and the number of people involved grows to a global scale. In this paper we are going to discuss two articles which cover the ethical perspectives of India and China, how these articles contribute to understanding global ethics, and how India’s and China’s business ethics compare to that of the United States. Santa Clara University published an article written by Stephen Rothlin called “Business Ethics in the Chinese Context” that discussed some of the progress China made in 2006 and 2007 in business ethics. Stephen Rothlin is the general secretary of the Center for International Business Ethics in Beijing. ...An Ethical Dilemma at Work Your Name Axia College University of Phoenix An Ethical Dilemma at Work Dear Diary, I though this country was past the stages of sexism and prejudice in the work place, but how wrong I was in believing that! As a military spouse of a Coast Guard member, I see just how sexist and prejudice the military can still be against women in the work place. My wife has comes home many days with some sort of argument about how unfair things are at work and how the people she works with have no morals or values. I’m going to tell you about a specific situation that my wife faced at work a few months ago while training with her Coast Guard unit. The morals and values of the unit created daily ethical dilemmas for her and the social pressure of “fitting in” only seemed to amplify the situations. My wife has been in the Coast Guard since June of 2007 and her first duty station out of boot camp was at Barnegat Light, New Jersey. It is what the Coast Guard considers a “small boat station” and there are only about 40 to 50 members stationed there total. Because of the nature of the station, there are not many women stationed there. The women that are there are all a bit on the young and attractive side. I figured that since my wife was married, she would not have any problems with sexism over at the station. I was completely wrong in thinking that. Her department cash register would always come up short either at the end of the day or on her off days. In her department, two of her employees were people that she knew personally. One of her employees decided to let her know that the other employee was stealing money from the cash register. She told my mother that the head manager had been watching the other employee for a least two weeks and it was a setup to see how long that this problem would continue. My mother was skeptical of how this person because this person would claim to add money to the till so that it would not continue coming up incorrect. The dilemma she faces was that she had known this person since childhood and also the fact that she was good friends with the woman sister, whom had been murder shortly before this problem occurred. My mother had to make a decision on does she go on what this person is saying or does she report her suspicions to her boss. She decided to put a side friendship and let her boss know about her suspicions. After meeting with her boss, it was decided by her boss to have this employee watched to see if she was stealing. Huffman Trucking was a carrier during World War II for the Government from factories in the Midwest to factories on the East Coast. The business that Huffman Trucking acquired during this time was enough to help the trucking company grow. At the end of the war the trucking company was able to retain the relationship with the Government and continue carrying for them. Along with the growth from the Government, Huffman Trucking was also able to grow by acquiring five regional carriers to join their fleet. The moral and ethical issues that a trucking company would face are customer relations, employee relations, product quality, services quality, and equipment maintenance. The customer relations are important for any company. If a company has a good relationship with their customers they are more likely to succeed. The same goes for the employee relations, as long as the employees and the company have a good relationship then the trucks will be taken care of and the customers will be taken care of. The service and product quality of the company is what will set one company apart from the other.
