This week we hit a pretty heavy topic, the effects of marijuana in a business. Many people are lead to believe that marijuana does not matter to them because they do not use it or they do not allow it around their business. When in fact marijuana effects everyone right now. There are many thing that are being affected because of the legalization of marijuana. Other medication effects
Being in the trucking industry, my drivers cannot under any circumstances use marijuana because the FEDs have not approved it as a medicine, it is still a controlled substance in their eyes. I have one driver who has anxiety, she has to take pills for it. These particular pills, your body becomes dependent on and you can’t just stop taking it. Your body will have withdrawn symptoms. So why would we want our truckers driving all over the country using pills instead of a natural plant? Truckers are allowed to take Xanax for their anxiety, Xanax is a very addictive pill also, and it also is a very strong pill that causes you to black out, forget things, and just pass out, fall asleep. I tried Xanax for my anxiety and it was not something I could use and function in a normal day. I am not okay with my drivers using pills instead of marijuana. I have another driver who has a bad hip, she is getting a whole hip replacement soon. This driver is not even allowed to use CBD lotion on her hip that does not even get her high. Instead she is overloaded with pain pills that are bad for her kidneys.
Crime
One thing people do not think about is how crime effects their business. Where I am from, there is so much crime! People think twice before opening a business in certain places in the city. Location and its surroundings can affect your business. In Colorado violent crime dropped 400% in just the first three months of legalization. That is anything between, robberies, assaults, murders, and burglaries. Business are always worried about burglars and robberies, marijuana dropped those crimes a ton! Business also do not realize that some people do not have their own transportation. Some will not use public transportation services because of the bad crime. If there is a day that your employee does not get a ride to work well, now you have an employee that did not show up to work to do their job.
Education
As we continue to grow as a business, we set and accomplish more and more goals. I know as a business owner, I want to see my business grow and prosper for many years. I would love for my children to take over it one day and keep it going. Today’s children will be in our businesses in the future. In Colorado the school systems will be getting extra funding’s, millions of dollars extra funding. So if we better our children’s education, their futures will be bright, they will have many opportunities. Also another thing that is effecting children is when their parent or parents are going to jail because of marijuana. They then are taken from their home and sent somewhere else to live, could be foster care, could be with other relatives. What are we doing to those children by taking them away from their parents for something so stupid? Statistics show 80% of foster children end up in prison. The government has ruined them as a child. So many business these days are doing background checks. This will affect the children of America which will affect the growth of our businesses.
Conclusion
In conclusion, marijuana has a major effect on our businesses futures. Many people do not realize that it will make or break the growing of America. The extra funds marijuana is bringing in is amazing! Those funds are going towards schools to help our children’s education. The crime rate has dropped dramatically in Colorado since marijuana has been legal, business do not have to worry about robberies as much. Also truckers would be allowed to use marijuana instead of pills that get them addicted.
