...The county wants to change the regular school schedule into a year round school year in my opinion, I think this is the worst idea ever.I have 3 reasons why this idea is totally horrendous and in this essay I will tell you why. The first reason I think the year round schedule is horrible is because we lose vacation time.If we had only 6 short weeks of summer everyone would go on vacation at the exact same time and it would be all packed. We would we stressing out about studying while weŕe trying to have fun at the beach. It would be challenging for teachers because instead of having a great time with their family, they are sitting in their bed grading papers. The second reason I think this schedule is ludicrous is because we would not have...

...The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board should accept the proposal to make the school calendar year-round due to the mental health, grades and breaks. Firstly, I feel as if the proposal to turn our board into year-round schooling due to the mental health of students. If breaks are more frequent, students would feel less overwhelmed about forgetting things that were taught and there would be less worry due to shorter waits for breaks. It is also preparing the students for high school, if in elementary school right now, with the feel of semesters. The frequent breaks would free up time for relaxing and extra curricular activities. There would be less stress about missing lessons, tests and presentations due to tournaments since no classes would be missed during that time. Also, the excitement for breaks would help relax and preserve their mental state due to less stress. It would also give high school students, in our board, a chance to get part-time jobs during the breaks to already start saving. This would help reduce stress for them in the future. Therefore, accepting the proposal for year-round schooling would be very beneficial...

...Would you mind going to school all year round? When I was in elementary school and middle school in my native country Taiwan, our school systems were based on a schedule that has school throughout most of the calendar year as opposed to having no school in the summer. Most of the time when I began talking to my friends in America about the school system, expressions such as “This is ridiculous!” often came out. However, the term “Year-round schooling” is a misnomer. In fact, we do not attend school “year-round”, we attend approximately the same number of school days per year as traditional schools. Under year-round education programs we attend school for ninety days and go on vacation for thirty days; these vacations usually take places in spring, summer and winter. In this article, I will describe my experiences of attending both year round schools and traditional schools and explore the potential problems associate with both schooling systems as well as the benefits they bring. I received most of my primary and secondary education in Taiwan where we had to go to school year round. When I moved to Maryland in tenth grade, I was surprised that we had almost two and half months of summer vacation every year. During my first year of studying in the United States, I felt exhausted since I was not used to have little or no breaks throughout an academic year. Finally when my first summer vacation in the U.S. came, which I yearned for, I went back to my country for July and...

Differential parental investments in education and children under kinship care in the Philippines by Joseph J. Capuno and Xylee Javier School of Economics, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City UPSE Discussion Papers are preliminary versions circulated privately to elicit critical comments. Differential parental investments in education and children under kinship care in the Philippines Joseph J. Capunoa, and Xylee Javierb a,b School of Economics, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City 1101 Philippines Abstract While education is universally held to enhance a child human development, policies must still contend with parental biases. Here, we investigate if school attendance of young household members aged 6-12 years old varies with their kinship ties to the household heads in the Philippines. Applying probit regression techniques on a dataset culled from the five rounds of the Annual Poverty Indicators Survey, we find that the probability of attending school of the head's own child is about 2.9-percentage points greater that that other relatives in the same age group, controlling for income and other factors. However, there are no differences in the likelihood of school attendance between...

...confident about my aptitude and was focussing mainly core and analytics. - I didn’t prepare for GD but finally had to give GD in Coca Cola, ITC and Schlumberger. So you can never be too sure of what comes your way during the placements. PLACEMENT EXPERIENCE - I started my placement journey by getting shortlisted in Capital One on Day 1. They shortlisted 125 candidates on the basis of resume. Then they took a case study interview and reduced the number to 30. Then again took an aptitude test but finally didn’t give offer to anyone. - Then came Coca Cola on Day 2. They organised GD in the groups of ten each and then there was a single interview of about half an hour which mainly consisted of HR based questions. The topic of the GD was “Are Engineering students wasting time in studies ?”. The interview mainly focussed on the commitment to work with them and asked whether I did any activity depicting leadership skills. - Coca Cola shortlisted candidates with medium profile like moderate CPI with few extracurrecs. I had a target of gettng placed in Qualcomm from second year itself. It came on Day 2 and I got a call from Qualcomm in the middle of the interview of Coca Cola so I could not take their call. Immediately after this I went for the Qualcomm interview but they were not happy and asked me to leave without much interrogation. The results of Day 2 came and I got placed in Coca Cola. It was funded by a generous donation from Ronald A. Kurtz (MIT 1954) and David Kurtz (HBS 1992). Other reports from the VSS Project include cases, teaching notes and monographs. This report was prepared by Lucinda Linde (Marlin Capital) and Alok Prasad (Pittiglio, Rabin, Todd & McGrath) under the direction of Kenneth P. Morse and Matthew Utterback of the MIT Sloan School and Howard Stevenson and Michael Roberts, of the Harvard Business School. 2000 MIT Entrepreneurship Center Executive Summary Angel investors are an important and growing source of financing for the start-up and initial growth phases of technology ventures. This study focused on high net worth angel investors with entrepreneurial backgrounds. Many of these angels invest in first time entrepreneurs before the entrepreneurs secure venture capital financing. Besides earning a strong return on their investment, these experienced angels are motivated to “give back” to the community which helped make them successful. Very little published data is available on angel investing and little research has been done on the experienced angel investor. It may be valuable for first time entrepreneurs, venture capitalists...

...Related Studies Foreign On Study Habits The first Study Habits Inventory (SRI) was prepared in 1933 by Wrenn, with a view to survey this feature among students. In 1935 research workers interested in the improvement of study habits, they paid attention to the discovery of effective study techniques and tried to improve study skills and habits of work through ‘how to study’ courses and other systematic procedures. Cuff (1937) carefully derived study-habits inventory and found that it aids in finding the pupils in need of special guidance and helps to identify remedial work for the good and bad study habits of individual cases. Brown and Holtzman (1955) constructed a questionnaire to survey students ‘study habits', as well as their attitudes and motivation towards academic work. Items were compiled from group interviews with good and poor students, existing inventories on study habits, studies using observational and interview techniques and reports on related experiments in the field of learning. Scoring keys based on validity studies in ten colleges were developed. Study habits basically consist of effective methods of study (Sorenson, 1954). Study is the total of all the habits, determined purposes and enforced practices that the individual uses in order to learn. Study is hard work, no easy substitute is available (Armstrong, 1956), Brown and Holtzman (1956) and Srivastava (1967) point out that for good academic success, good study habits and attitudes are important....

...can be broken up into three stages. Each of these stages helped the company make a decision about the candidate and is a key decision point for the firm. The working process is mainly divided in three stages: The purpose of the first one is to see if the candidate has real interest on the company by conducting informal interviews with students in the office in advance of official first- round interviews. These interviews were not part of formal process, that process was to know how serious and enthusiastic the candidates were and a chance to learn more about the firm. In this round interviewers are also instructed to test for culture fit. In the second one the candidates have an interview with an associate who will decide if they have the profile to be promoted into the final round. In this last filter 30 candidates are invited to the Giants Stadium where senior employees interview them five half-hour sessions with short breaks. When the interviews are done, the seniors hold a meeting where they decide which candidates must hire. Candidates invited to Super Saturday will be given the case study to...

...that will have you chasing your tail! It's truly a trap debate because the right answer is "it depends". Whether it's a completely strategic discussion about your organization's policies or a discussion involving a specific position and candidate, this issue continually resurfaces at organizations. And depending on what side of the fence you sit, this issue can be very personal and emotional. Obviously, there are specific cases where the question is debatable. If you need a registered professional engineer to approve plans, the degree requirement is a given. If you're a hospital looking for a surgeon, you're probably seeking someone with a PhD in medicine. However, the scope of positions that may or may not require a degree gets gray pretty fast, and the span is pretty wide. And, no industry is immune to this issue. Keywords: experience, degree, organizations, policies, professional, requirement, industry. Education or Experience? It Depends. Take this scenario: Bob and Joe are both applying for the same job. They each interview well, but Bob has 15 years’ experience and no college degree, and Joe is fresh out of college with no experience. Who gets the job? The answer is: it depends. Here are some factors to consider when it comes to the battle between education and experience. Career Field There are some careers where experience is preferred over education and vice versa. In sales for instance, having a track record of dollars brought into the company will far outweigh...
