Teenagers...what images and words come to mind? If you are like most People, the first houghts will be negative:wild, irresponsible, immoral, violent. For generations People have complained about young people, but today the intensity of concern and the level of fear seems deeper than the “when I was young” lessons of our grandparents.
Much of the public’s critique of teens revolves around parents’ perceived inability to be involved with their children and teach them the right values. It is not just the elderly who question the lack of values they see in our youth; parents of teenagers share the same concerns.
The Current Environment for Youth
As we begin a new millennium, the mood of the nation is optimistic. Most public opinion polls show high consumer confidence, strong satisfaction with the country, and a belief that the nation is on the right track. At the same time, people are very worried about the nation’s youth. “Education” has been consistently ranked as the top issue facing the nation, and the few polls that ask about children and families show a high level of concern for them.
Adults have questioned teens’ values for generations and there is certainly a wealth of public opinion data that looks like generational griping. For example, in 1989, adults were asked to compare the youth of the 1980s to teenagers twenty years prior, and adults responded that “today’s youth” were much more selfish, materialistic, and reckless than a generation before.
A decade earlier, in 1976, only 24% said they had a great deal of confidence in teens “facing up to their own and the country’s problems in a responsible way.”5 Going back one more decade, in 1965, when asked the open-end question “in what ways would you say teenagers are different today than when you were a teenager” overwhelmingly the top response (41%) was “more irresponsible, too wild today, , more independent, less restricted, freer in actions.”6
So its easy to understand that it is not the teen agers that are to be blamed but the generation gap that effects people on seeing the negatives of today’s teens.
Even if I agree with most of the adults , then they should alswo see that today condition way difficult and teens are really trying hard to co[pe up with the expectatios led out for them

...have places that we went out to wow that sucks.” This was the shocking response I got from an affectionate mother in Sinking Spring PA when asked about the struggles she faced in the past. Her name is Ashalisett Aroche. She had many struggles in her life because she was poor when she was younger and her kids father went to jail. She has just had a very rough life overall. Asha was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She grew up poor and had a rough life. She left home at a young age and started working at 12. Some struggles she faced growing up were thet she grew up kind of poor so she started working at an early age because there were nine of them in a two bedroom apartment and her stepfather wasn’t really around so it was just really her mom just kind of paying for everything and Elias her brother kind of helping her out and so she had to grow up really quick. I didn’t really have much of a childhood. Asha is most proud of her children. She’s proud of just raising her kids as a single mom. “I don’t think I’m perfect, but I think I’ve done a good job” she responded when asked what she was proud of. She is also proud of putting herself through college being a single mom with her kids and just being able to be that example for them of how she...

A Guide for the Internet?

...In 2006, Megan Meir was the victim of cyber bullying which led to her suicide. The mother of a former friend of Megan created a fake social network account under the name of Josh to monitor Megan online. The mother became friends with Megan, but Megan only thought it was just a boy that she knew from school. After a while, everything went from sweet talk to verbal abuse. Terms such as" Megan is a slut. Megan is Fat" were being posted all over the social network by the mother. Devastated by all this bullying, Megan was found hung in her bedroom closet a few days before her fourteenth birthday. After the death of Megan, they found out it was the mother of her former friend who was behind this cyber bullying. Megan's Father, Ron Meir stated, "That's the biggest tragedy of this whole thing. An adult did this." Living in the 19th century, everything we do is revolved around the Internet. Nowadays more than 50% of people can’t go a few hours without going on the internet since they have developed smartphones that bring it right into the palm of our hands which makes it harder for parents to monitor their kid’s internet behaviors. Basically whatever you do is connected to the Internet, from talking on the phone, video chatting and texting. But most people do not realize that there are consequences, which relates to all of the above if not taken certain measures and precautions that would lessen the risk of such threats that might arise while using Internet. Don’t get me wrong, the...

Sex Guide

...A Sexy Guide bySteelAndSilk© While I was pondering a bit about another how-to, I stumbled onto the idea of one about how women could be sexy (or sexier) toward men, and also, avoid being unsexy. Now, as I've stated in some of my other articles, I have no business telling men how to be sexy toward women. I'll leave that to a woman, seeing as she would know a hell of a lot more than I would. There are the obvious things, of course, for both sexes. Being in decent shape, having a good attitude toward each other (though some women do go for the douchebags, a concept I'll never understand), etc, are all great things. However, not every guy is going to be able to get all ripped out, and not every woman has time to tone her abs or get supermodel hot. Let me share a secret with you ladies...you don't have to in order to be sexy. But, it is good to take care of yourself, just as you would want your man to. Now, understand that when I "speak for men" we're talking about your run-of-the-mill normal guy. Sure, there are guys who think you dressing in a skin-tight latex full body suit with weird goggles for your eyes and a zipper on the mouth while you spank his ass with a spiked paddle is sexy. I'm not remotely experienced with that, so I'm going to leave that be. Nor am I getting into the men who supposedly love obese women. No experience there either. So what do you think of when you think sexy, girls? Maybe waiting for your husband to come home, candles lit and music playing, and he...

Philosophy Paper

...From the time we are born we have expectations in society to abide by. Girls are put in “girl” colors; boys are put in “boy” colors. If you ask someone why those are “girl” colors or “boy” colors the response is generally “because they are”. Who decided that those colors have a gender preference? Who even decided those are those colors? This class led me to question society itself and realize we give things an identity based on what we are told. The most important thing I learned was the inverted spectrum. I am going to define what the inverted spectrum is, explain what it is, and provide examples how it applies to everyday lives. Then I will explain that the inverted spectrum is important to me because in reality no one can understand my mental state no matter how I explain it, I learned to think for myself, and perception is our reality even though it may be completely false. I will then explain some counter arguments against my reasons such as knowing someone’s mental state because of a similar event or emotion and that we believe what we believe based on facts that are then passed down from person to person. Then I will explain how the counter arguments are incorrect. Finally, I will conclude my argument. The inverted spectrum suggests things are not just input, output because of our own experiences. We do not learn through input and output such as mathematics but our experiences. What this means is someone could pick up a pink crayon but see black but are always told...

Eddie Adams from Torrance

...Eddie Adams from Torrance: Finding Family in P. T. Anderson's Boogie Nights All human beings at some point believe they are extraordinary or at least special in their own way. Often, individuals do nothing with these special abilities or talents, leaving those opportunities from being pursued. But there are others who are so bold as to take a chance and see where this talent might take them. Eddie Adams was one of the latter. He took the bus from Torrance, California to work in Reseda as a bus boy. Sure he could probably find the same job back home, but he is in search of something grander than what's offered in Torrance. He works at a club in Reseda to be around people who are living lives of glamour. Eddie wants this for himself. But what Eddie is searching for is not exactly what he finds. In P.T. Anderson's Boogie Nights (1997), Dirk Diggler is used as a vehicle to tell the story of several individuals, each dealing with personal struggles who don't find exactly what they are looking for but do find each other, creating a family which is essential for each character's survival. Eddie Adams if first introduced working in a night club. He is not typical. Jack notices this as the entire scene cuts from Jack's gaze to Eddie, “whose unique talent is about to be spotted and put to use” (Smith). He immediately follows Eddie to the kitchen where he questions him on his background. Here the audience sees Eddie as a young man seeking a goal. Jack asks, “So what do...

The Blood Letter

...Michael Fisher Michael Fisher The Blood Letter The Blood Letter The Blood Letter Written by: Michael Fisher Jr. Copyright: October 23, 2014 -Preface- In mid-evil times there was an unorthodox treatment for any ailment at the time, it was called bloodletting. When the nobles were ill, no matter what the affliction was, the surgeons with their hideous beak nosed masks and the blacked out eyes would come in and perform a bloodletting. The bloodletting consisted of placing leaches randomly on the afflicted one’s body, and allowing them to suck the sickness out of the host body. They would also place small incisions in precise placements to allow the “bad blood” to flow out of the infected body. More times than not, the patient died, but they always assumed it was because the infection was too far gone. Or even that the Devil himself had a hunger for that person’s soul. Even during the time of the black plague outbreaks, smallpox, cholera and the many other ramped diseases of the dark ages, the bloodletting practice was incorporated. Even during the Salem witch trials this method was instilled as a form of torture to get confessions of witchcraft form the accused, and also to try to rid them of the evil blood received from the devil. The practice was thought to have died out with the knights, nobles, and the kingdoms of old, and destroyed along with the witches…or so we thought. Fast forward many centuries from the dark ages to the modern days of the cell phone...

Tempest Information

...last play that Shakespeare wrote alone. It is set on a remote island, where Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, plots to restore his daughter Miranda to her rightful place using illusion and skilful manipulation. He conjures up a storm, the eponymous tempest, to lure his usurping brother Antonio and the complicit King Alonso of Naples to the island. There, his machinations bring about the revelation of Antonio's lowly nature, the redemption of the King, and the marriage of Miranda to Alonso's son, Ferdinand. There is no obvious single source for the plot of The Tempest, but researchers have seen parallels in Erasmus's Naufragium, Peter Martyr's De orbe novo, and eyewitness reports by William Strachey and Sylvester Jordain of the real-life shipwreck of the Sea Venture on the islands of Bermuda, and the subsequent conflict between Sir Thomas Gates and Sir George Somers. In addition, one of Gonzalo's speeches is derived from Montaigne's essay Of the Canibales, and much of Prospero's renunciative speech is taken word for word from a speech by Medea in Ovid's poem Metamorphoses. The masque in Act 4 may have been a later addition, possibly in honour of the wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Frederick V in 1613. The play was first published in the First Folio of 1623. The story draws heavily on the tradition of the romance, and it was influenced by tragicomedy and the courtly masque and perhaps by the...

Reasons Why Grade 10 Students of San Jose Pili National High School Engages in Vices

OLAÑO Subject Teacher Submitted by: CHARISH JOY B. BAYOT 10-EINSTEIN March 2016 HISTORY OF VICES IN TEXAS The history of vice in the U.S. state of Texas has been an important part of the state's past and has greatly influenced its development. Vice activities, such as gambling and prostitution, have historically been a significant facet of both the state's culture and its economy. Law enforcement organizations have traditionally defined vice as including prostitution, gambling, alcohol and narcotics, and pornography. These activities, though always controversial, represented major influences in the state with some enterprises at times holding legendary status. The legal status of the individual activities has fluctuated substantially over time. Additionally during some periods individual communities and public officials have been accepting of many of these activities, even when they were illegal, because of corruption, because the activities were seen as inevitable, or often because the activities were economically important. Early Texas and the Republic of Texas Before the arrival of the European settlers in Texas, the plant peyote (peyotl in Nahuatl) had become a popular hallucinogenic among tribes in the Rio Grande Valley as well as parts of West Texas and Chihuahua.
