...long time.” Renee forced a polite smile. “I'm sure it won't be long for you.” Mrs. Rivas was the manipulator in the ward; everyone knew that her attempts were merely gestures, but the aides wearily paid attention to her lest she succeed accidentally. “Ha. They wish I'd leave. You know what kind of liability they face if you die while you're on status?” “Yes, I know.” “That's all they're worried about, you can tell. Always their liability-” Renee tuned out and returned her attention to the window, watching a contrail extrude itself across the sky. “Mrs. Norwood?” a nurse called. “Your husband's here.” Renee gave Mrs. Rivas another polite smile and left. 1b Carl signed his name yet another time, and finally the nurses took away the forms for processing. He remembered when he had brought Renee in to be admitted, and thought of all the stock questions at the first interview. He had answered them all stoically. “Yes, she's a professor of mathematics. You can find her in Who's Who.” “No, I'm in biology.” And: “I had left behind a box of slides that I needed.” “No, she couldn't have known.” And, just as expected: “Yes, I have. It was about twenty years ago, when I was a grad student.” “No, I tried jumping.” “No, Renee and I...

...Saichaie 1 As my experience in graduate school at Ohio University turns the corner and heads for home, I find myself near the doorstep of my future. I will receive my master’s degree in Telecommunication Management with the plan to manage in the field, then pursue a doctorate in communications, and later instruct at the university level--but first things first. My initial desire is to go into the field. My choices, whether be radio, television, cable, or multimedia, grow as fast as the technology in this digital age we live in. To be a successful manager— and this is increasing in the telecommunications field—a proper understanding of how peoples’ attitudes and actions shape their behavior within the organization is a necessity. The following paper will highlight core aspects of organizational behavior, how they connect within the context of organizational behavior—touching on key matters—and how the information from the assessments might apply in my development toward a future career. Additionally, the paper will reflect and highlight the results of the Self-Assessment and how they connect with my experiences in daily life. The paper will follow the order of the assessments in relation to the chapters they pertain to. All quotations from Essentials of Organizational Behavior by Stephen P. Robbins, 7th edition, 2003, will be indicated throughout this paper unless otherwise noted. Many themes involve themselves with organizational behavior. In the context...

...Interview-Stacey Williams The first interview I conducted was with a young man named Stacey Williams. He had a nice handshake and looking at his physical appearance, I could tell he was an athlete. He was in fact a football player, and reviewing his resume, he is finishing his second to last semester at Webber International University. I asked Mr. Williams three questions, and he gave reasonable answers for each of them. The first question was which age group would he prefer to work with, and he said middle age children (12 years and up). My second question was how does he compare with the YMCA important values-respect, honesty, and responsibility and he said he does really well with them, especially from his experience as an athlete, which I like. My last question was about him fitting in and he sounded confident saying he would tell jokes and just be himself. Stacey seemed to know the duties and responsibilities of the YMCA and I think he would get along great with the children. During his interview he could have did better with his choice of words. However, he did fine. Interview-Katie Lindstorm My second interview was with Ms. Katie Lindstrom and I really enjoyed interviewing her. She gave great answers to my questions, and seemed enthused while answering them. She is the type of employee we need at the YMCA. Just from asking her three simple questions and reading her body language, I know she will relate well with the children. Her remarkable experience playing and...

Julie uses the book as guidance. 3. What is in Julie´s carrier bag (see p. 3, 1. 13 - 19)? - in her well-prepared bag, Julie carries a torch, pieces of string wrapped in a piece of plastic, two pairs of knickers, a cardigan, a thick towel with an old blouse of Debbie´s, some sanitary pads and two guest towels. 4. Why does Julie feel full of trouble and worry and ill-prepared (p. 3, 1. 21)? - Julie is not sure why she feels the way she does, it could be because she´s afraid what would happen to herself and the unborn child. 5. How does Debbie earn her living? - Debbie could be a prostitute or escort, she has many “visits” from many different men, and she travels to New York with a man. Julie and Debbie have a strange relationship. It seems like Julie is relying on Debbie to take care of her as she did at first when Julie arrived to the city. Debbie always paid for Julie and taught her about life and men - from her own point of view. Debbie’s motto in life was “Take what you want and don’t pay for it” (p. 3 l. 30) but Julie knows better regardless...

...Yes or No Did communism threaten America’s internal security after World War II (WWII)? Some say yes, and some say no. In this article of Taking Sides John Earl Haynes and Harvey Klehr, both history professors, claim that during the “Venona Project” of WWII the code-breakers of the U.S. army revealed a troubling number of U.S. government officials who were passing on secret information on to the Soviet Union and completely spoiled American comforts (Issue Summary). One of the officials that were caught was Harry White. Being one of the most powerful officials in the U.S. Treasury Department, White warned the KGB on how the diplomatic strategy of America could be upset. Another official that was caught was Lauchlin Currie. Currie was President Franklin Roosevelt’s most trusted assistants. He told the KGB about the investigation that the FBI had started on one of the Soviets’ American agents, Gregory Silvermaster. After acquiring this information this made it easy for Silvermaster to get out of dodge of the FBI and continue spying. Also, during the Manhattan Project, Klus Fuchs and Theodore Hall, both physicists, and technician David Greenglass transferred the compound formula for extracting bomb-grade uranium from ordinary uranium, the plans for production facilities, and the engineering principles for the “implosion” technique, which made the use of a plutonium using atomic bomb possible (Haynes, Klehr). Haynes and Klehr stated that, “Americans worried that a communist fifth...

...Argument #1: Speciesism Racism is the view that the interests (e.g., health, pleasure, desire/preference-satisfaction) of members of one race (e.g., white people) are morally more significant than the interests of members of other races (e.g., colour people) just because the former are the interests of people belonging to a particular racial group whereas the latter are not, so that it is morally justified to promoted/protected the former in expense of the latter whenever the two are in conflict each other. An example of racism is that white babies receive better medical treatments than black babies from government hospitals simply because the former belong to, but the latter do not belong to, the white race. Sexism is the view that the interests members of one sex (e.g., male human beings) are morally more significant than the interests of members of another sex (e.g., female human beings) just because the former are the interests of people belonging to a particular sex whereas the latter are not, so that it is morally justified to promoted/protected the former in expense of the latter whenever the two are in conflict each other. An example of sexism is that boys receive, but girls do not receive, school education simply because the former are male whereas the latter are not. Speciesism, which has the same structure as racism and sexism, is the view that the interests of members of one species (e.g., Homo sapiens or, in other words, human beings) are morally more significant...
