I believe that having a career is fundamental to success in the world these days. We live in a time when if you do not have a degree you probably will not work in the area of your interest, or get very far for that matter. Luckily, some people have found their dream job and have not required a university degree, but this is the exception, not the rule. An example of this is my mother, she has a medical degree from a technical school and she loves her job. She goes to villages that cannot even be accessed by car, and she is so committed to her job and helping others that she has been doing it for over thirty years. She wanted to go to college, but sadly her boss discriminated against her for being a woman and did not…show more content… Even though we still make seventy seven cents for every dollar a man makes, we still can power through and carry on. I intend to graduate from college and get a degree that will allow me to help people in any way possible. I have always had the desire for this and even though my major has changed, my will has not. I wanted to be a doctor when I was a child because my mother was in the healthcare field, and after I graduated high school I wanted to be a lawyer so I got into law school and completed three out of the five years. I did not finish because I was given the opportunity to come to the United States and have a better life. I enrolled in college after I came to the US and started down the path towards completing my goal however, I had no transportation and was forced to drop out. That is how I found Empire State College, and my hopes rose again. I was not able to find transportation to an actual campus and, consequently, I had to abandon my studies but with the center for distance learning I can complete my degree and achieve all of my dreams.
