Yoko Ono is an artist, singer, and peace activist. She is also known as the widow of John Lennon, a former member of the Beatles. Although being famous and successful, Ono had been shunned many times for different causes. These causes include her relationship with John Lennon, the peace demonstrations Ono and Lennon performed together, and the theory that Ono break up the Beatles. Yoko Ono and John Lennon first met on November 9, 1966, at Yoko Ono’s art exhibit. John Lennon was deeply moved by Ono’s art piece YES (“On This Day). After this meet, Ono and Lennon soon became a couple. At the time, John Lennon was still married to his first wife, Cynthia (Grant). Cynthia filed a divorce in August 1968, and Ono and Lennon got married on March 20, 1969 (Swanson).
Lennon and Ono were both peace activists. On their honeymoon, just five days after their marriage, Ono and Lennon climbed in bed in room 902 and began their five day long bed-in, a demonstration derived from sit-in, which the couple just sit in bed and talk about peace.
