...As You Like It will be for many of you a rather difficult play to appreciate and interpret simply on the basis of a reading. The reasons for this are not difficult to ascertain. The play is, as I have observed, a pastoral comedy, that is, a comedy which involves a traditional literary style of moving sophisticated urban courtiers out into the countryside, where they have to deal with life in a very different manner from that of the aristocratic court. This play, like others in the Pastoral tradition, freely departs from naturalism, and in As You Like It (certainly by comparison with the History plays) there is little attempt to maintain any consistently naturalistic style. This can create problems for readers unfamiliar with the conventions of pastoral, especially those who find it just too artificial and incredible to grasp imaginatively. After all, how are we to understand the unmotivated family hatreds which launch the action? We are simply not given any sufficiently detailed look at why Oliver hates Orlando (he himself does not understand the reason) or why Duke Frederick hates Duke Senior and turns on Rosalind so suddenly or, what is most surprising of all, why the nasty people whose animosities have given rise to the plot so suddenly and so conveniently convert and become nice people just in time to wind the plot up happily under the supervision of the goddess Hymen, the Greek deity of marriage, who arrives as an unexpected but welcome guest. But these...

...Holidays Holidays are celebrated differently by everyone. In fact, some people do not even celebrate the holidays that I do. One thing that is common for everyone is that holidays are usually surrounded by family and friends. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving for lots of reasons. I look forward to Thanksgiving all year long. I can remember everything about thanksgiving from the great food and the great memories. Thanksgiving is important to my family because we get together and eat. We see, smell and taste good food. When my family gets together we eat and gossip and talk. I like to hear the laughter that comes from everybody having a good time. Thanksgiving is significant in my life because I get to see all of my family. I only get to see all my family once or twice a year. This is a time we get together and find what they have been up to. We tell stories or play game and watch football on tv. We joke around and hang out and eat. Our Thanksgiving day starts off with everybody in the kitchen cooking and talking. I usually am cleaning while they all cook in the kitchen. We set a nice table with our good dishes and silverware. We get to eat a big ham, a delicious turkey, homemade macaroni and many other dishes. One of my favorite food is yams. I love the sweet smell of yams. Yams have a beautiful layer of golden brown marshmellows on top. I can eat a whole pan of them. Most people like Christmas the best, but I like Thanksgiving because...

...We’re on Twitter time now. The official announcement, sealed with a Tweet of course, said simply, “We’ve confidentially submitted an S-1 to the SEC for a planned IPO.” Not following the “jobs and growth” movement? You may have missed a newfangled way start-ups can start the process of raising money from the public — and create jobs and economic growth—with less regulation and much less paperwork. On April 5 of last year, the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act (JOBS Act or Act) became law in the U.S. Don’t let the rah-rah of the law’s title fool you. This law is all about making it much easier for private companies to access public capital with less muss, less fuss. The law also provides relief to certain companies, emerging growth company or EGCs, so they can go public on U.S. exchanges without providing as much information to investors as early in the process as they used to. All this easy access to investors’ wallets means some “radicals” accused lawmakers of trying to pull a fast one. Eliot Spitzer was blunt: “It shouldn’t be called the JOBS Act, it should be called the Bring Fraud Back to Wall Street Act.” EY is the global public accounting firm of choice to emerging social networking/social gaming companies such as Groupon, Zynga, and Facebook as well as veteran technology and media companies such as Google, HP, News Corp, and Oracle. Twitter’s auditor is probably EY, given EY’s market dominance in the Silicon Valley emerging growth tech environment and EY’s...

Before you decide, here’s some information that will help you to make the wisest choice: You have to jump 10,000 feet out of an airplane. Does that help you to connect the dots? It should, because you need the parachute. It’s the only one of the four gifts that will help with your dilemma. The others may have some value, but they are useless when it comes to facing the law of gravity in a 10,000-foot fall. ...5 Things You Didn’t Know About Working In A Restaurant We have all dined in a restaurant in some point in time. Whether it be McDonald’s, Burger King, or Wendy’s. Hell, some of us might have had the balls to go to Hell’s Kitchen! But here’s a few facts that I’ve been through that might make you reconsider restaurants… Five things you might not know about restaurants… 1. Managing a Restaurant takes up all of your time When you decide to manage a restaurant, it’s worse than having a newborn child. You see, just like a child, it eats, breathes, shits, and cause havoc in your life. And just like a newborn child, it requires your constant attention. And like said new life in this world, you are ultimately responsible. It’s your day off? Fuck you! Somebody failed to show up for an important shift. You have a catering order to go out? You have to be there for it. You watch and plan everyday for as long as you’re in charge. Corporate makes you hire a new manager? Now you’re fucked. Not only are you responsible for making sure that they learn all the systems and procedures, you HAVE to let them fail so they can learn, only to clean up their mess. And as a training manager, you have the added cost of their labor on your books. Thank you powers that be! Let me hold some idiots’ hand and walk them through how to be a retard on my dime. Don’t get me wrong, we all need to learn and grow, but corporate doesn’t have to babysit. Speaking of babysitting… 2. The staff can be your worst...

As the camera completes its half circle to the right and comes to a complete stop at DECKER’S ¾ profile we see he is holding a piece of paper, it is folded, he unfolds the paper and begins to read, a voice over begins. It is Decker’s voice. DECKER: Mom. Dad. I feel as though I’m losing myself again. [ 1. PAN to OS Right showing the letter] I know I am. I can feel life spinning away from me, and this time I have nothing to hold on to. Its as though I’m on one of those tacky carnival rides that Dad would take me on at Edgewater Days when I was a kid, although now he’s not there to hold me in. I can feel it, I’m losing control. [ 2. Rotate to the right and pull back to the previous position] I know that, this time, there is no going back. And I also know that I can’t put anyone else through another one of these trying times. So I am doing the only sensible option I have left. [ 3. Slow PAN left so DECKER is almost out of frame. In the distance, we see a figure walking...

...today? It really is about whom you know; what you know helps too. Add onto that that you need to do extensive research on the company you will interview for and hope that they have done their own research on you such as call your references at least. But how far is a company willing to go to find out what kind of person you are before that initial interview? Some companies go as far as checking out your Facebook page, as well as your LinkedIn page, I don’t believe this is acceptable, nor do I think a potential employee should go to that length either. Have you ever heard the phrase it’s not about who you know, it’s about what you know? Well, today that is not always the case. Networking is very important when looking for that perfect fit job. You might ask, “What is networking?” Networking is a support system of information sharing and services (jobs) among individuals and groups having a common interest (dictionary.com). There are several ways of networking, some more common are over the internet and advertised or hidden market jobs (No One Will Hire Me). Advertised are just that, they are jobs found in the classified ads, or posted on websites such as Monster.com or CorridorCareers.com. Hidden jobs are the unadvertised jobs, or those that are word of mouth. Sometimes these are the best jobs and often pay more and have a more promising future. Internet is a great way to network as well, there are many sites out there that help you understand and help develop your...

...The Louis Vuitton bag: just an expensive bag or is there more to the product? A product analysis essay (1910 words) Almost everybody in the world knows the brand Louis Vuitton and can recognize the famous logo and patterns they use on bags. Louis Vuitton is the most valuable luxury brand in the world, followed by Hermes and Rolex. Over the years famous people and rich people who have excessive amounts of money on their bank accounts, have bought their products. If the average person on the street would have to describe a stereotype of the Louis Vuitton owner the description would probably be in this direction; the owner would wear designer clothes, big sunglasses and the Louis Vuitton bag over their shoulder with a Chihuahua in it. I choose this brand because I’m curious about this product. What would be the costs to design a Louis Vuitton handbag? How are these bags produced and why are their retail prices so high? So basically what I want to know: is the Louis Vuitton bag ‘’just’’ an expensive bag or is there something more to this product? During this essay I will look at different subjects; economy, ecology, ergonomics, ethics and aesthetics. I will also give my honest opinion to give the reader and an idea of my perspective about these subjects. Let’s start by looking at ethics: how is the product produced? The handbags are produced in France, Spain, the United Stated, Italy and Germany. They do not produce their handbags in ‘’cheap’’ Asian countries like China. All of...

...experiences and knowledge into the classroom. It is the teacher’s responsibility to make teaching and learning effective and they will need to know the learner as much as possible. A teacher is responsible for meeting the needs of different individuals or different groups of students who are learning together at any time. It is essential that a teacher must find a method of differentiating between learners in order to personalise learning to individual needs. This can be done by introducing a number of Initial and diagnostic assessments at the start of the students learning. It is an essential part of the learners needs to carry out assessments and was recognised as far back as 1904 when Alfred Binet, a French psychologist, developed the first intelligence test, which was to spark of the interest in individual variations. Since 1904 there have been many different tools developed to define the differences in learning styles (http://www.ehow.com/about_5381758_history-learning-styles). A) Identify a range of initial and diagnostic assessment tools: Initial and diagnostic assessments should involve a range of different styles and approaches, as each assessment will enable you to learn more about your student skills and identify their individual needs. There are a number of initial diagnostic assessments that a teacher can use to get to know their learner i.e. talking to the learner during an initial interview, paper based and computer based assessment, learning styles questionnaire...

The little old woman with a little too much perfume on nudges me and points to the door. Grabbing my coat, I whisper thank you before heading for the door. Inside the exam room, a nurse with shoulder length blond hair informs me that she is going to get the three shots and will be right back. A moment later, she returns with three needles and three alcohol swabs. Before administering each shot, she carefully cleans the intended injection site. She engages me in a conversation before she ever so cleverly sticks the needle into my upper arm injecting the serum. Placing a Band-Aid over each spot, she tells me to monitor the sites for possible swelling. I nod as I head out the door. Leaving the parking lot, my phone rings. My...
