Youth Violence

...ENG 1213.W1 11 October 2012 Youth Violence Ninety percent of children ages 8 to 16 play video games, some spend up to 13 hours a week doing so (Harding). Most of the video games out now include some form of violence. This is a very controversial issue. Some people of the older or “Baby Boomers” generation would blame this on the parents of those children. These violent video games and movies can cause children to desensitize the violence and also cause aggression, but violent video games do not cause violent behavior. Debates about video game violence and player aggression are likely to continue for some time. “…As video games have become more widespread over the past few decades, the incidence rate of criminal youth violence has declined…” (Ferguson 390) In order to keep from behavior becoming an issue with children, parents have to step up and teach them right from wrong and what is good and what is bad. If a television show is on that is provoking violence, then someone needs to point out to the child that it is wrong to fight, curse, etc. Most children learn from experience. As long as they are told what is acceptable from what is not they should have standard morals to know what to do when the parent is not around. It is the parents’ job to be the ones to teach their children the ethics and principles that they want them to follow. ...Youth Violence: What is the cause of it, and how can we prevent it? Violence happens everyday, not only in the U.S. but the rest of the world as well. In the 20th century violence was common among adults, but not a real big issue among youths. With violence among youths increasing in the mid to late 1990’s, many people have asked one question “What would cause today’s youth to commit an act of violence against another person?” There are many factors that can cause youths to commit an act of violence. Bullying is the most common factor that usually results in youth violence. Peer to peer bullying seems to be the most effective among youths because the bullies can physically or verbally abuse someone. Youth Violence and Youth Deaths by Guns

...Youth Violence and Youth Deaths by Guns Capella University November, 2013 Abstract This project will explore the history, cause, and preventive measures on the subject of problems with our youth. As adults the saying "The Children are our future" is fairly and accurately a true statement. With the changing of times, and economic problems within the urban communities, the children of our future are becoming more of the criminals, and inmates of the future. Violence and deaths among youths has become more of a problem than crimes, and violence among adults. Trying to reach youths that have falling victim to the "street life" seems to virtually impossible because the benefits from being in the streets are more appealing to the youths than getting those same benefits by going about it the right, and legal way. Trying to understand why children kill has come to be a disturbing process. It seems that the youth of today have far more resources, and avenues to obtain a gun than the youth of the past. A study was conducted by Author Richard Tremblay, and some of his findings suggested that “Longitudinal studies of large samples of children from infancy to adulthood indicate that the peak age for physical aggression is between the end of the second and the end of the fourth year after birth. Fortunately, because of their size, physical aggression from two-year-olds does not constitute a major threat to the public in general.” (Richard Tremblay, 2007). Many youths have been subjected...
