...Insurance Co. to find maps of the YWCA site as early as 1888. I also researched using the USC libraries website to search about the site/neighborhood before it was built, after it was built, and the present day. Lastly, I took a drive to the relatively close location walked around the block to get a general feel for the area. Pre- Research Before I started doing anything I thought it was important to find out exactly what my site was and where it was located. I figured it would be important to know where the site was exactly and its actual purpose so I would be able to tell the effects that YWCA Jobs Corps Center would have on the surrounding area. Sanborn Insurance Co. – An Epic Search (Still in Progress) Maybe I am just bad at looking at map keys but I almost found this part of the research impossible. I have not given up because I know there is a way but in 1888 I could not even locate Broadway St. (the street its on) on the map. There was also not an option for a map after for after the year of 1955, which also poses a problem because the site was not even built until 1965. I will definitely find a map for 1955 on Sanborn but it leads me to believe that I will need to use another source to find a map where the actual site is located in present day. Historical Articles I found that using the USC libraries website was quite useful. Proquest for instance was the most useful as it had plenty of credible LA Times articles about the YWCA Jobs Corps Center. One article...

...Case Study YWCA of Columbus Family Center and Women’s Residential Program The YWCA of Columbus is putting the finishing touches on a new, $6.5 million Family Center on the east side of Columbus that will provide shelter and supportive services for up to 50 homeless families in Columbus every night. At the same time, the YWCA is expanding facility space and supportive services for 100 women who reside at the downtown Women’s Residential Program. Public Service Consulting worked with the YWCA to help raise funds and build support for both projects. PSC helped develop the fundraising strategy and wrote grants for capital investment to build the Family Center. We also helped organize and facilitate the Neighborhood Advisory Council to build support for the project and work through community issues. PSC developed a staff training plan and coordinated training for more than 50 staff members prior to the facility opening in October of 2005. At the downtown Women’s Residential Program, PSC worked with YWCA administrators to research and develop a successful three-year funding proposal that greatly expands supportive services and facilities for women in the program. Prior to the expansion, staff offices and program locations were spread out over seven floors, with staff available mostly on weekdays during office hours. Now services are consolidated on one floor with a friendly, convenient “drop-in” center approach for residents. Supportive service staff are available around-the-clock...

...The analysis of the YWCA seems to show that the organization does have respect for its rhetorical audience. They have multiple programs for senior citizens, teenage girls, domestic violence, and homelessness that were created not only to respect the audience, but also teach the audience that they deserve to be respected (YWCA San Diego, 2016). It teaches them how to escape their problem safely, “recover from traumatic experiences, secure income and a living space, and how to reach out to others” (YWCA San Diego, 2016). They not only want to respect women, but they want to teach them to be empowered. The next letter in TARES test stands for the equity and fairness appeal to the audience that the organization brings. The YWCA does have an appeal to fairness since they are a non-profit all their money goes to reaching out to women around the world and creating more resources for these women as seen by their financial statements....

...Public Resource Analysis The main character in the book, Saving Bernice: Battered Women, Welfare, and Poverty, Bernice had been a victim of domestic violence from a very young age. Bernice grew up in a troubled home where neither of her parents set an example for Bernice or her siblings, which every good parent would want to set for their kids. In this analysis, the public resources available in Walla Walla, WA, will be connected to Bernice’s situation. This analysis will relate several situations in which Bernice could have used the resources from this town, and how she could have been helped. Although these institutions aim to help battered women, and their children, they offer many services but by no means are they perfect. Every institution has their strengths and their weaknesses, all of which will be exposed throughout this public resource analysis. In Walla Walla, there are five main sources of help for women who are going through the same horrid situations as Bernice. Some of these institutions offer similar services, but they are all different entities. One of the most important resources is the Domestic Violence Emergency Shelter Programs and Advocacy Services. This service is an only service that provides victims with the names of shelters in their area, some include the address, but they all include a phone number and a website where the victim may look up more information. Although this resource is not a physical service, the strength of this source is that...

...attention to more than just their business at hand. These companies ensure that the core values that guide a person’s life in and out of work are combined within the goals and strategies of an organization. Being a good corporate citizen means more than just producing a profit for the organization. It also means investing in the community in which the associates live and work. By investing human resources or through the donation of money organizations build trust not only with the associates but with the community. As CEO of the YWCA Green Bay – DePere I experience organizations giving back every day. The women that serve on my board have full-time day jobs. The mission and Vision of the YWCA is so important to these women and their employers that they are encouraged to volunteer their time and provide leadership to the issues facing women and young girls. These women volunteer expertise from their employers, they sell the importance of what the YWCA is all about and they guide the future strategy based on the needs of the community. These Women are emotionally invested in their jobs, their families and their communities. In our book Crafting and Executing Strategy, Chapter 9, page 311, Figure 9.2 illustrates The Five Components of a Corporate Responsibility Strategy. The Corporate Social Responsibility is both internal to the employees and external to the needs of the community. In essence, A Company needs to balance the need to satisfy shareholders through profit against...

...as the Franklin Square revival and the establishment of Ocean Blue, and most importantly, the revival of the Stanley Theater, one of Utica's most important landmarks. To give back to the community I plan to motivate more people to support pinnacle organizations in Utica such as the YWCA, and the Mohawk Valley Refugee Center. I have started to motivate people in New Hartford to support the YWCA through donations of things the YWCA is in dire needs of, such as clothes for the womyn, cleaning supplies for the shelter, gift cards for gas, and on some occasions some bath products from Bed Bath and Body Works. Recently I created a group of about ten people, including a teacher, were our mission was to paint canvases with inspirational and insightful quotes to be hung around the waiting rooms and the therapy rooms. The Director of the YWCA, Claudette George, told me the womyn come in and write down the quotes to take the little bit of inspiration with them. Now that same group of people and I are making large canvases to hang in the rooms of the womyn’s shelter to add some light into the victims lives. I, have personally visited the shelter and when I left, it pained me knowing how this shelter and the YWCA are severely underfunded and unsupported by the community even though they save lives. Likewise the Refugee Center need more attention from teens and adults who can teach English and be mentors, or help someone pass their citizenship exam. I would love to see more ideas from younger...

...A few examples can be seen with YWCA, for instance their connections on social media including their blog and Facebook account allow a symmetrical dialogue. This is because it allows them to have control over their information, while also engaging their rhetorical audience to participate and become involved by donating, commenting, volunteering, or participating. It also gives the public a voice which makes it easier for the organization to view an individual’s comments, concerns, or complaints directly. Another form two-way communication is using their hotlines which are open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. This allows anyone who is in need to contact the organization anytime they see fit. There are a few different forms of symmetrical communication involved in the YWCA’s organization...

...weakness’ of our own thinking. Every decision taken leads us to another issue to have. In the world of business, critical thinking is very important. Persons are required to have a higher thinking skill because this will be a benefit to the organization or company. All companies have different types issues to solve. In the workplace, brainstorming during the critical thinking method allows for many creative ideas to be made. Brainstorming should have no boundaries, so the mind can move from one thought to the next, allowing for the ideas. These creative ideas can be calculated, selected apart, and restructured at a later time to help meet the needs of the organization. From the YWCA there are many meetings and trainings conducted each month. The reason there are many things to be discussed is because YWCA branch is dedicated to work with children. And working with children is a great responsibility because there are a lot issues to be aware, while working with them. Caregivers have the obligation to observe all different types of reactions, conduct and any physical abuse of the children. Also caregivers are the teachers who allow children to use their creative minds and make projects with them using a learning system. There are many...

...[pic] Worldwide, more than 60 million women aged 20–24 were married before they reached the age of 18. The extent of child marriage varies substantially between countries, but about half of the girls who are affected live in South Asia. Child marriage is a violation of child rights, compromising the development of girls and often resulting in premature pregnancy and social isolation. Child marriage is becoming less common overall, but the pace of change is slow. In 34 of the 55 countries with comparable data from two recent surveys, there has been no significant change in the percentage of women aged 20–24 married by 18 – and only 5 countries experienced a decrease of more than 10 per cent. Questions Introduction: Child marriage refers to any marriage of a child younger than 18 years old (18 is the recognised age of adulthood according to the Article 1 of the Convention on the Right of the Child. While child marriage affects both sexes, girls are disproportionately affected as they are the majority of the victims. Their overall development is compromised, leaving them socially isolated with little education, skills and opportunities for employment and self-realisation. This leaves child brides more vulnerable to poverty, a consequence of child marriage as well as a cause Child marriage is now widely recognised as a violation of children's rights, a direct form of discrimination against the girl child who as a result of the practice is often deprived of her basic...

...Community Organizing- Childcare Information Services Child Care Information Services, (CCIS), is a, “subsidized childcare program that helps low-income families pay their child care fees” (YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh, 2014). The program is state and government funded, which the offices are managed throughout Pennsylvania according to your county. In the late 1990’s CCIS’s origin began with assisting the working families only. If a person or persons were receiving TANF benefits their childcare subsidy would come from the Department of Public Welfare. Once those persons would obtain employment their childcare subsidy funding source would automatically transfer to CCIS. In the mid 2000’s it was determined that CCIS would provide the childcare subsidies for both working families and those receiving TANF benefits. Under the new guidelines TANF clients would receive the childcare subsidies automatically, at the time of applying for cash benefits, to attend training programs, employment, or education. Families who are working and are not receiving TANF benefits can apply for the childcare subsidies through CCIS, however there is a waiting list, “the waiting list times vary, and usually are at least several months and possibly longer” (Department of Human Service, 2015). (Conexis, 2015) Without the assistance of CCIS most working families cannot afford to pay the out of pocket expense of childcare. This causes many people to make the hard decision of spending a large percentage...

...The majority of studies have found that from 30 to 60 percent of families where child maltreatment or woman battering is identified, it is likely that both forms of abuse exist. (2010, YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish, Through Their Eyes). It’s sad that there are so many children in the United States that have witnessed some type of physical violence between their parents. This violence can have a lasting effect on a young child’s development cognitively and emotionally. Studies suggest that younger children may be more vulnerable to the effects of witnessing domestic violence than older children so it is very disturbing to recognize that young children are more likely to witness incidents of violence than older children. . ...I am still undecided on whether I want to enter public or private practice, whether I want to become a tax or audit accountant. I plan to achieve this goal by experience and researching about the life style and responsibilities involved with each type of accounting. I plan to do Co-op at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in my third year of university then get a position at PwC near or after graduation. I chose PwC as my dream place to work at because of my mentor. In grade 11, I joined a high school mentorship program by the YWCA. There I met my mentor who has greatly impacted my life. She is a tax accountant at PwC and has taught me so much about the world of accounting. I was given a office tour from her and I feel in love with the PwC office and the work environment. Due to my admiration towards my mentor and the work environment of PwC, I will work hard to achieve my goal of joining her at PwC. Lastly, I want to give back to my community by becoming a mentor for the YWCA Mentorship Program. The program has helped me so much throughout the years and after establishing a career as an accountant, my goal is to return to the program as a mentor to positively influence a student’s life and be a positive role...
