...Will the Web Kill Colleges? In this paper I will examine the article written by Zephyr Teachout entitled “Will the Web Kill Colleges”. The key point of Teachout’s argument is whether or not the Web will kill Colleges. According to the author Zephyr, “undergraduate education is on the verge of a radical reordering” (Chaffee, p.91, para 2). Zephyr states that colleges will be torn apart by the Internets new ways of sharing information. Classes are slowly changing from an in class setting to an online setting that may become permanent over the next 15 years. The author also states “colleges are becoming more virtual” (Chaffee, p.91, para 3). Traditional Colleges will experience a decline in enrollment and since they are depending on tuition this will hurt them tremendously. You don’t have to be in a classroom to do research, ask questions and receive lectures to gain a full learning experience. “The funding of academic research, the culture of the academy and the institution of tenure are all threatened” (Chaffee, p.96, para 4). The evidence used by the author to support his argument is the cost of getting a online degree are relatively inexpensive compared to traditional college. For example, “in state online undergraduate completion degree offered by the East Carolina University costs only $99 per credit hour which is a base of $1200 a year” (Chaffee, p.92, para 2). And the author also believes that the price will “only dive in coming decades as more universities compete...

...Corporate Ownership and International Mergers and Acquisitions* Jan Bena University of British Columbia† Kai Li University of British Columbia‡ First version: November, 2012 This version: December, 2012 Abstract This paper employs a novel dataset of mergers and acquisitions (M&As) for which we can observe ownership structure of a target firm including the identity of its ultimate owner if there is any, and its country of origin. As a result, we are able to improve the traditional definition of cross-border deals by taking into account the domiciles of a target firm, its ultimate owner, and the acquirer. Using dispersedlyowned target firms as the baseline, we examine whether and how different types of owners in target firms—individual(s)/family, industrial, financial, and government—as well as their domicile affect the incidence of international M&As. We find that both individual(s)/family and government target firm owners are negatively associated with the incidence of international M&As; while foreign domicile of target firm owners is positively associated with the incidence of international M&As. The interaction between the type of target firm ultimate owner and its domicile reinforces the above findings. We also examine to what extent target firm characteristics such as size and age, the recent financial crisis, and geographic, sociological, and cultural proximities impact the incidence of international M&As. We conclude that corporate ownership is an important determinant...

Through this analysis, Ford Motor Company will be able to identify challenges that the company faces as well as the steps needed to reduce these challenges and improving both the company’s product and image. Statistical Analysis The results gathered from the questionnaire immensely helped Ford understand new aspects of an improved Hybrid vehicle. Subject 1 was the owner of a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. Subject 1 has had 4 scheduled maintenance jobs performed on the car in the past year. On average, Subject 1 only drove 100 miles per week. Usually, scheduled maintenance is performed depending on the gas mileage of the car i.e. oil changes, tire rotation and balance, etc. Subject 1 took good care of their car over the past year, but still had two serious additional car problems. The 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid costs Subject 1 on average $127.06 a week in gasoline. This customer is only satisfied at level 3. Being that this is only a three year old car, these problems point to inefficiencies with manufacturing. Both are costly for the owner to replace. Subject 2 is the owner of a 2012 Toyota Prius. Scheduled maintenance was performed...

...The construction industry is currently in a state of turmoil – as the economic situation begins to improve, we are finding that the challenges of securing contracts and motivating people throughout the recessionary period are being replaced with different challenges including retaining people, maintaining the business ethos and controlling growth in what remains an incredibly competitive industry. Through recession and as we exit, a strategic approach to business management is key to longevity and sustainability of an organisation. In the context of Read Construction Holdings Ltd (the writer’s organisation), there are significant changes currently underway – a new business plan targeting significant growth over 3 years, new directors and ownership and a marketing strategy targeting increasingly large complex projects of a Design and Build nature. To achieve this, some form of change is required and much of this change may come through innovation. This assignment will distinguish between product, process and organisational innovation and discuss which is likely to be the most important for the growth of Read Construction Holdings over the next three years. In order to distinguish between the different types of innovation, the essay will begin by setting out a clear definition of innovation. There are many different systems of CRM such as operational CRM which focuses primarily on the marketing, sales, products, and services of the company. ...Does the United States present a Public Administrational model for the rest of the world for avoiding corruption? “Corruption is an insidious plague that has a wide range of corrosive effects on societies. It undermines democracy and the rule of law, leads to violations of human rights, distorts markets, erodes the quality of human life, and allows organized crime, terrorism and other threats to human security to flourish. This evil phenomenon is found in all countries… but it is in the developing world that its effects are most destructive. Corruption hurts the poor disproportionately by diverting funds intended for development, undermining a Government’s ability to provide basic services, feeding inequality and injustice and discouraging foreign aid and investment. Corruption is a key element in economic under-performance and a major obstacle to poverty alleviation and development.” Koffi Anan, foreword, United Nations Convention against Corruption, 2003. When Democracy and central governance was formed in ancient Greece, it was for the very purpose of preventing the powerful few putting their needs above those of the masses they ruled – after all ‘Democracy’, stems from the Greek demos and kratia literally meaning the power of the people. For peoples familiar only with autocracies and hereditary monarchies, this was a radical notion. Why then, in some modern democracies, has the word government come to be almost synonymous with corruption? Corruption in government is...
