I nominate Zitkala Sa as an inspiration and guidance in American women today. Zitkala Sa thought that she knew what she wanted when she a young child. She thought that going with the Quakers to their schools that she was going to have a better life than she had on reservation. She soon realized that everything that the Quakers had promised her was less than true. Their goal was to rid her of her culture and force their beliefs on her and the other Indian children. This could have been very destructive and demoralizing for some but Zitkala Sa survived it and went college. Ultimately, she began to teach at Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Pennsylvania. She soon realized that even although it was an Indian school they did not want to teach
