The letters he sent included multiple cryptographs, some of which remain unsolved. The Zodiac killer murdered victims in the cities of Vallejo, Lake Berryessa, and San Francisco in the years 1968 and 1969. Although there are only seven confirmed victims from his criminal acts, there are thirty seven homicides which the Zodiac killer claimed to have committed. On August 1, 1969, three letters were delivered to the Vallejo Times-Herald, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the San Francisco Examiner. The letters were sent from an unknown individual and unknown address. In the material presented by the letters the writer claimed to have committed the homicide of multiple victims. Each letter also included a piece of a cryptograph which the writer stated that it contained his identity. The writer demanded for the cryptographs to be published on the paper’s front page the next day or he would “cruse all weekend killing lone people in the night then move on to kill again, until I end up with a dozen people over the weekend.” On August 7, 1969, another letter was delivered to the San Francisco Examiner in which the writer...

...While researching and watching the movie, it is obvious that the Zodiac sought to portray himself as this dominant godlike figure; you must abide by his words in his letters or he will kill again. This power/control dance was apparent especially when he wanted to see his symbol around town and his letters being published in the newspaper, almost like a ego boost. He got enjoyment by toying with the press by sending in cryptic letters. He would also call to police to report his murders. He wrote a letter after the murder of a taxi cab driver, along with a piece of the driver's blood stained shirt, stating that an officer did see him but did not stop him because he did not fit the suspect's characteristics at the time (Zodiac Killer, 1996)....

...Deanna Brooks Mr. Ogletree English 1101-10142 March 22, 2012 The Zodiac Killer The Zodiac Killer is as unknown today as he was in the 1970's. It is said that the Zodiac killer is Arthur Allan, though we cannot in any way prove this theory. The zodiac killer was a murderer that seemed to have a serious mental condition, which needed treating, but appears as if he could not control it. The Zodiac killer is a man that committed a series of murders during 1930’s to about the 1970’s. To plainly put it he was a serial killer. Many have wondered if he was locked up in jail somewhere or sitting back waiting to strike again, he would be very old if this was the case. There are many accounts of the murders. Though some people ended up changing their story, or too much happened and they are still in shock so they have trouble remembering, or they could be trying to block the memory. In most of his killings it seems to be the same, a young couple, kills the girl completely, but leaves the guy just, enough to talk to the police then he dies. I think this means he wants someone to still be able to talk about him. There was one account I read about where he did not kill anyone, Butterfield stated that, He writes letters to the police and the have to unscramble it. He seems to put a lot of time into his letters and his killings, in other words a “psycho-path”. The zodiac killer a time seems to have a moment of sanity and some letters had asked for help, but those moments did not...

Zodiac Killer

...The Zodiac Killer was a serial killer who committed numerous homicides in Northern California in the late 1960’s. The identity of the Zodiac Killer was never discovered, and though there was a compiled list of possible suspects, the real Zodiac Killer is still a mystery today. It is confirmed that he killed at least five people, yet he claims to have killed much more than that according to letters he sent in. During his reign of terror, he would send cryptic letters to the local newspapers. These letters included four cryptograms, which are messages in which the writer replaces letters with symbols. These puzzles were nearly impossible to decode, and they made it that much more difficult for anyone to discover his identity. In these letters, he would take responsibility for his murders and also threaten to harm more innocent people, including children. With these letters, the Zodiac Killer also made a mockery of the San Francisco Police Department and caused panic throughout the entire community (“Zodiac Killer,” 2014). Out of the four letters that were sent, only one was officially solved by a couple who happened to see the letter on the front page of the paper. The first known murders took place on December 20, 1968 in Vallejo, California. The victims were Betty Lou Jensen, a sixteen-year-old female, and David Faraday, a seventeen-year-old male. As the story goes, they were sitting in their car at a lake when the Zodiac Killer approached them. David Faraday was shot in...

The Zodiac Killer

...The Zodiac Killer Malisa Musick-Roberts Student-Fort Hays State University Abstract This paper focuses on the attempted profile of the Zodiac Killer who remains an unidentified serial killer active between 1968-1969. It is believed he is responsible for the attacks of seven victims, five of which died at the scene or shortly thereafter. Of the two male victims who survived, a physical description was given and a composite was generated. To this day, the case remains open. Included is a generic profile of the killer and the typology of the offender. The most descriptive profile is of the victims and their crime scenes because there is more locatable information pertaining to them. Much is unknown about the Zodiac Killer because in 1974 he stopped all communication with the newspapers and police. The paper concludes with interviewing techniques that would be used if a suspect were ever arrested or interrogated for these vicious crimes. The Zodiac Killer Offender Although it is impossible to say exactly, a physical profile includes that the Zodiac Killer is most likely a white male, 25-35 years of age, may not have done well in school, menial profession, may have little or no friends and no partner. One eyewitness stated he had short blond hair, a big face, 25-30 years of age and approximately 5 ft. 8 in. However, this profile is a mixture due to his seemingly fascination with the press, sending correspondence and phoning in to the police his crimes. He appears to be...

...The big question/myth is was the Zodiac killer real. During the Mythbusters American history project we demonstrated many skills in order to complete it. We did things such as different forms of getting information to different forms of forming our script. While creating our project the point of view that we used was a 3rd person point of view. We decided to use 3rd person for the project because we thought it would best fit for all the information because there weren’t any quotes . For comparing and contrasting we used ideas and factual information compared it to what people thought. Counterclaims were also added and were used to try and go against our evidence. Contextualizing Sources we found information from source that we knew were...

Oliver didn’t see it. “Okay.” I muttered. “And by good luck, I mean Ben was also assigned to the case, too.” Oliver stood by my desk waiting to see a reaction. “Okay.” I said again, showing no form of emotion. Oliver shrugged his shoulders and left. Everyday, he had something rude about me to joke about— from my divorce, to my...

Essay On The Zodiac

...Kashina McGrath English AP Zodiac Book Report The book Zodiac by Robert Graysmith told a story about a man who made anyones nightmares turn into a reality. The Zodiac is very much alike the urban legends, but in real life. Graysmith wrote about the killer that “got off” to killing his “prey” as he referred to it in the book. The Zodiac found pleasure in stalking his victims and attacking them when they least expected it. He would dress up in his paper bag to cover his face, only to kill innocent people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Tieing up and pretending to rob a couple, them coming back and stabbing them to death in front of each other, one over 20 times. Then leaving the money and the car keys with them when he left, he didn’t want the money or the car. He just wanted the thrill of killing another human being. He would damage single woman's vehicles, making their batteries die or causing their tires to fall off just so they could look towards him for assistance, and he would get them to get in his car with him so he could take them and kill them. Couples on Lover’s Lane were killed without warning and cab drivers were shot after arriving at...
