Amylase Enzyme: The Effects Of Temperature
Amylase is an important metabolic enzyme. Its function is to catalyze the hydrolysis of starch into glucose. At high temperatures, Amylase becomes denatured, denatured amylase no longer catalyzes the hydrolysis of starch into glucose.
Amylase is an important metabolic enzyme. Its function is to catalyze the hydrolysis of starch into glucose. This particular enzyme, which is found in all m ammals, speeds up specific digestive processes which take place along the digestive track running from the mouth to the small intestines. Amylase's essential role in digestion makes it an attractive prospect for research. The human body must be kept within several degrees of 37° Celsius for biological functions to continue working. If body heat exceeds 37°C by too much cells become impaired or permanently damaged, at lower temperature metabolism decreases without permanent damage until ice crystals form in the cells. What happens to Amylase at extreme temperatures? Perhaps the answer to that question will give insight into metabolism's reaction to low temperatures. There are over 700 enzymes which have currently been identified. An enzyme is defined as a catalyst which increases the rate of a metabolic reaction. Most enzymes are specific, meaning that they only work on a particular reaction or class of reactions. Many industrial processes m ake use of enzymes to create their products. Yogurt, cheese, sauerkraut, and cottage cheese are just a few of the many products enzymes are used to make.

Giraffes

...All about Giraffes Stephanie Sprague ITT Technical Institute All about Giraffes Ever wonder about the different animals around the world? Ever wonder about their behaviors and features? This all has to do with zoology. Zoology is defined as the branch of biology devoted to the animals. Zoology can be viewed as a series of efforts to analyze and classify animals. Zoology basically explains everything having to do with the entire animal population. Zoology in an important field in the science world because it helps to explain all the different studies of animals. One important and what I feel is the greatest animal studied in zoology is the giraffe also known as Giraffa camelopardalis. The giraffe is the tallest animal averaging seventeen feet. Giraffes usually weigh about 2,500 lbs. Giraffes along with their extremely tall bodies have tongues usually fifteen inches long. Both sexes have two or four short, blunt, skin-covered horns. The coat has chestnut brown blotches against a brown background, markings that blend with the many different trees. As a giraffe ages, its color grows a darker brown. Each animal has a unique set of markings. Giraffes have keen sense of smell, seeing, and fantastic eyesight. A giraffe’s lifespan is up to twenty-six years in the wild and thirty-six years in captivity. Giraffes live on dry savannas and open woodland. They range south in the Sahara and in large numbers only in East Africa. Giraffes are herbivores, they eat mainly on leaves from acacia...

Giraffe Research Paper

...Ever wonder about different animals around the world? The way they live? Special features about them? All of this has to do with Zoology. Zoology is defined as the scientific study of the behavior, structure, classification, and distribution of animals. Zoology practically describes everything having to do with an animal. It’s very helpful because it explains all the different structures in distinct studies of animals. One important animal to zoology is the Giraffe. Giraffes usually weigh around 2,500 lbs. They are the tallest mammal in the world averaging to about seventeen feet tall. Along with their tall bodies, giraffes have extremely long tongues which are about fifteen inches long. Giraffes reproduction is quite interesting. Before sexual intercourse, the male tastes the urine of a female to determine if the female is mature enough for reproduction. A male is ready to mate at the age of seven, and for the female, four years old. Usually, on a rainy day giraffes like to mate because the humidity releases the stress out. Unlike a human where women are pregnant for 9 months, a giraffe would be pregnant for 15 months. During labor, the female giraffe would be standing up so it's easier for the calf to come out. When the calf is born it is about 6 feet tall and weighs around 150-200 lbs. Within hours the born calf is able to walk on its own. Growing up 25% of newborns make it to an adult because they are prey to lions, leopards, and hyenas....

My love for biology took root and continued to grow as I had some of the best teachers guiding me.
