    A Separate Peace Character Analysis

The human nature has intrigued philosophers since the ancient Greeks with Aristotle. This is exactly what John Knowles explores in his novel, A Separate Peace. A Separate Peace begins with the main character, Gene Forrester, coming back to the boarding school that he attended 15 years ago, Devon. When he arrives his memory flashes the reader back 15 years in the past, to the summer of 1942, where we are introduced to Finny, Gene’s best friend, and the reason of Gene’s return to the school. As the

    A Separate Peace Literary Analysis

In the novel, A Separate Peace, Gene has a lot of inner battles to be fought, along with external ones. While some of Gene’s innocence was lost, I do not believe that was what he was referring to at the end of the book. Some of his innocence was lost throughout the novel, I can see how one could come to that conclusion. For example, he lost his ability to be laid back because he was always on edge about Finny being better than him. Then he became capable of hurting him, when he jounced the limb.

Gene’s Slowly Growing Green-Eyed Monster “It is the green-ey'd monster, which doth mock. The meat it feeds on.” This quote from William Shakespeare’s “Othello” portrays jealousy in an accurate way. In John Knowles’ novel, “A Separate Peace,” Gene Forrester is the host body of this “green-the eyed monster.” When I first read this novel, I noticed that as Gene’s emulousness grows, more beleaguered he becomes. Gene’s best friend Phineas is an extraordinary athlete. Gene instinctively caused him to

    A Separate Peace: Character Analysis

In the novel, A Separate Peace, I think the connection between Gene and Finny is based on the fact that Gene is in love with Finny. Gene can’t come out and just say it, so he does a bunch of obscure things to show Finny. I think Gene loves Finny because he only goes 2 places 15 years later. He also feels like he died when Finny died Finny died. Gene even apologizes when he jounces Finny out of the tree. When Gene went back to Devon School 15 years later, he only went 2 places; the marble staircase

    A Separate Peace River Analysis

In A Separate Peace, a symbol that is key to the novel is the two rivers, Devon and Naguamsett. Gene views himself not as high and mighty like Finny. This connects to the two rivers because Gene thinks of himself as the Nagumsett river and Finny as the Devon. In the novel Gene always feels as if Finny was always fun and everyone wanted to have hang out with him. The same applies with the Devon river when Gene says, “…the fresh water Devon…where we had so much fun, all the summer” (Knowles, 76). This
