It was very hard for the troops to fight with gas masks. They had big guns and could not hold the mask on their face while fighting. Back in the days, machine guns were huge and heavy, but they were very powerful. Tanks were slow, but it helped fight through mud and water. Zeppelins were like modern-day blimps.
