Events That Led To The Civil War There are many events throughout US History that lead to the North and South fighting each other in the Civil War. As we look through the events you will see that the main issue is Slavery and whether or not it should be allowed in the United States. In the 1820’s and 1830’s the Abolitionist movement heightened the slavery issue by the north. In 1827 New York abolishes slavery which became the first state in the north to go from a slave state to Free State.
