If I am writing a paper, work e-mail, or discussion post for an online course I tend to use the same writing process. I would say it is a mix of both Anne Lamott’s described process in “Shitty First Drafts” and the 3x3 writing process in Guffey. My writing is usually done in 3 stages but sometimes only 2, when the prewriting and drafting stage blend together or if I am preparing something like and e-mail that does not need as much prewriting as a paper or discussion post might need. The first thing

My advice for Makayla Makayla’s story happens to me sometimes. I understand the feeling of staring at a new process or test and not being able to translate it into what I am familiar with. I would recommend that she tap into her precision when this starts. It will help her become hungry for answers and open to moving out of the frozen state to a mind that can think past the isolated agenda or task. I would recommend that she write down questions that lead her to feeling stuck. She should be able

Some of the articles I write for pay come with a title and some require me to create a title. Titling is something I think it kind of hard to do well. I think I have learned a lot in the last couple of years, in part from participating in online forums and in part from blogging and in part from reading things that weren't specifically about titling per se. Reading the below linked article about Star Wars misquotes was a huge epiphany concerning making good titles. Specifically, the part I quote

What is The Messenger about? Simply put, The Messenger describes to us what’s important in our day to day lives, it is about setting a course for an individual to follow, and about how we create our own stories in life to get by each day. reflects in my writing and makes it writing easier. One thing I have learned from reading many books is to have my writing authentic and unique because those are the writings that stick with you. I have written a research paper, persuasive essays, book reports, and a reflection paper. One of my mistakes in writing is that I don’t know how to stop. I used to write very long stories in elementary school and my teacher had told my parents that I ramble a lot in my writing. Ever since, I’ve tried to control

Most children grow up writing tales about dragons, princesses, and candy islands with lemonade seas, riddled with grammatical errors and misspelled words. The power of imagination spilled out of child’s brain simply by putting pencil to paper – or wall. Of course, many years later my writing has evolved from writing about chocolate rivers to less imaginative essay about what an author meant by “the sky is blue”. Writing has never been my favorite subject in school, however with an eleventh grade

A first memory of when I became interested in reading and writing was when I was about 5 and I read Green Eggs and Ham by Dr.Seuss. I remember just loving to read that book that I read it like 10 times and then my parents got me more Dr.Seuss’s books and I remember reading those books very quickly. I really enjoyed Dr. Seuss’s books because the drawings were so colorful and the rhyming I loved how his books always rhymed or how he created words to make the book rhyme. As I grew older my interested

process is made up of several stages. Not everyone agrees on what part is the most important. Some believe that prewriting is the key to producing a good paper, others think that revising is the most important step. My teachers emphasized all areas. Pointing out that prewriting techniques could be used at any time during the writing of a paper and showing me that revising also occurred constantly as I wrote my rough drafts. Coming up with a good idea to write about is almost always difficult, however

essay formats help writers organize their thoughts and separate any unnecessary information. Educators insist that student’s practice writing in formats, so that their papers could be presentable to the readers. Writers such as Paul Prior, Nancy Sommers, and Anne Lamott gave readers a discrete amount of suggestions on how to prepare a paper. Paul Prior has a ‘go with the flow’ type of mindset, while following the guidelines for essay organizations. When, it comes to writing Prior suggested that students
