The Hidatsa is part of the Three Affiliated Tribes of North Dakota – the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Sahnish. The tribes believe and trace their presence in North America from the beginning of time. The first known account of the Mandan is by a French trader named Sieur de la La Verendrye in the fall of 1738.
