Animal Testing

...Humans have used animals for different uses. They have been used for food, clothing farm work and a variety of other uses. So using them to test new medical advances is different. Animal testing for medical purpose help saves lives and future generations. Animal testing should be continued for the use within the medical field. The ancient Greeks believed that animals were created by the gods to be used however people wish. The Bible says God gave man dominions “over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping things that creeps on the earth” (Genesis 9:1-3). The ancient Greeks and Romans influenced the laws of western civilization. The western civilization had no laws saying what you could not do to an animal no matter how cruel or unnecessary the act was (Thorburn). To some people animals have no rights at all while to others animals have rights and should not fell unnecessary pain and suffering. The people who believe animals have no rights; and use them just for their benefits but there is a line that should not be crossed animals do have feelings and some rights. The new movement of animal right groups has some good points like human like primates should not be used in testing like chimpanzees. The first law put in place by western civilizations was in the Massachusetts Bay colony. The law states that it is illegal to exercise any tyranny or cruelty towards any animal which are kept for use by humans...

...June 3, 2012 Michael. A. Fox 96-2321 ookoo street Aiea, Hawaii 96701 Cell: 808-953-5555 Dear Honorable Judge, I am writing in regard to Citation # recieved on May 14,2012 for delinquent vehicle tax and unauthorized windshield tint in which I plead guilty to but under mitigating circumstances. I served in the United States military and spent three years at Hickam AFB Hawaii and another three at Langley AFB Virginia. I bought my 2007 Acura TL while I was stationed in Virginia, but once I got out in June 2008 I was stuck with a $500.00 car payment I could not afford. I could not find work up to a year after I got out until I worked at Securitas Security company at Honolulu International Airport. Once December 2011 came around I was hired at an air duct cleaning company because I could barely make ends meet and was working two jobs during that time. In March 2012 I was fired at Securitas because I fell asleep at post and at the duct cleaning job I was barely making 25 hours and had to file for SNAP(food stamps). I was making about $250.00 dollars in net pay a week and had a hard time paying rent which is $832.00 a month. I then had to search for another job and found another cleaning company 4 days prior to receiving a ticket on May 14th when I was parked on the street. I admit that I did not pay my registration because I simply can not afford $337.00 for it plus safety which would total $357.00. My car payment is currently $500.00 dollars...

Buckeyeball

...BM 2321 (AU2014-Term 1) Case 1 Buckeye Ball Buckeye Ball produced baseballs and softballs for professional competition or serious amateurs. In order to ensure quality and prompt availability, the company manufactured these two items in the United States. Other extensions of the product line were imported from Asia. The U.S. factory operated under a union contract that limited working hours to 35 per week, but offset this with flexible rules allowing any worker to fill any of the job requirements. The production strategy was to schedule level runs of the two products on a weekly basis, which allowed week to week adjustment to meet variability in demand. Raw Materials Ball production required leather and nylon, a solid core that corresponded to the following usage per item: Material | Softballs | Baseballs | Leather (in2) | 5 | 4 | Nylon (in2) | 6 | 3 | Core (oz) | 4 | 2 | The available material for the forecast production run was 5,400 (in2) of Nylon, 6,000 (in2) of leather, and 250 pounds of core material. Very fine thread was used to final stitch the balls that had to be imported from Japan. These were packaged in a kit that could be used interchangeably with either product. So, one kit was required for either a Softball or a Baseball, and the import broker had a partial container of 1,500 kits scheduled for delivery. _____________________ Caution- This case was written by the instructor to demonstrate course concepts with most data made up. Beowulf and Green Knight

...Kayla Hinojosa English 2321 Short Paper (3/20) April 4, 2013 “Cultural values defined in ‘Beowulf’ and ‘Sir Gawain and the Green Knight’ ” The cultural values depicted in “Beowulf” and “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” are those of courage, honor, strength and humility among many others. Now, while exploring the ethos of the cultures in these pieces of literature the reader can deduce that each value means something different. What defines courage (and other values) in “Beowulf” differs from the definition of courage in “Sir Gawain” in many ways including the struggles Beowulf himself faced with Grendel, in “Sir Gawain” with the encounter with the lord’s wife, among other events in both poems. To begin with, in “Beowulf” these values are defined through the heroic code, which was held in the Anglo-Saxon culture in which this poem takes place. Beowulf himself is the definition of a “hero”, exemplifying values such as courage and strength. For example, one challenge that Beowulf held was the battle with Grendel. He shows exceptional strength when he is able to rip of Grendel’s arm which we see in the text itself, "The monster's whole body was in pain; a tremendous wound appeared on his shoulder. Sinews split and the bone-lapping’s burst. Beowulf was granted the glory of winning". The ability to cause so much physical pain to a giant monster shows just how powerful and strong Beowulf is. Strength here is sort of defined as physical power and ability rather than spiritual strength...

...Balancing Veganism Kristina Hendrickson COM/172 April 1, 2014 Warren Starr Abstract Veganism is a popular diet in society today. Although there are many reason why someone would choose such an approach it is vital to learn as much as possible before undergoing a big change. When compared to a key balanced diet, veganism can prove to be equally as nutritional if handled correctly. It is important to understand the fundamentals of a balanced diet before undertaking the substitutions needed for veganism. Protein and calcium are two of the most neglected nutrients for unknowledgeable vegans. The average daily intake is a standard for continuous health and functioning; major issues can arise if not met. Balancing Veganism Diet is a major concern amongst Americans today. There are many reasons why someone would choose a specific diet, whether it be weight loss, allergies, or moral reasons. No matter the concern, many people will jump in with hopes of quick progress. Veganism is one of the top diet choices of today. However, is removing a vital component of nutrition like meat detrimental to one’s health? Are moral issues distracting from nutritional wellness? With the knowledge of proper research veganism can be as nutritionally sound as a balanced eating style. Before breaking into the principles of vegan eating, let us focus on what a balanced diet is.
