Global Warming is the change in climate in locations that shouldn’t be changing. We should be concerned about these things because if the climate continues to change in locations that aren’t to be that climate, such as Antarctica and the melting glaciers, or snow in the desert, it can harm the animals that live there and will harm our planet. I think that some people disagree because they don’t want to face the facts that our planet is changing drastically due to our actions, such as pollution to the air, land, and water.
In the article 5 Scientific Reasons That Global Warming Isn’t Happening, by John Hawkins, he argues that global warming is mainly due to scientific reasons, not mankind. He says that there hasn’t been any global warming since 1997, and that the temperature of the planet has essentially been flat for 17 years. Following this statement, he says that the planet was cooling from 1940-1975, meaning that a 17 year pause is necessary to follow that. Hawkins believes that there are no scientific reasoning that global warming is caused by man. He says that over 31,000 scientists have signed on to a petition saying that humans aren’t causing global warming. He also says that Artic ice is up 50% since 2012, meaning that the Artic area has more ice, rather than it all melting away because of global warming. He states that predictions of global warming have already been proven wrong. He believes that global warming is a scientific issue, not a manmade issue. He adds that Al Gore said that if global warming were true, then all Artic ice would be gone by now, and James Hansen predicted that New York would be way under water if global warming were to be occurring. Hawkins is highly against the fact that global warming is caused by man.
In Global Warming is Happening Now, it is said that temperatures are increasing, sea levels are rising, sea ice is melting, and precipitation patterns are changing. The article explains that the Sun has nothing to do with the warming of the Earth. Sea levels have risen 8 inches over the past century because of global warming, and is still increasing. The most visible sign of global warming is the decrease in sea ice. The article states that “Since 1979, Artic sea ice extent in September has declined by over 30 percent, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center.” If the ice keeps melting, then it can risk the life of animals that live there, such as polar bears, seals, and walruses. There are places around the world that are getting more rainfall and others less. “The Southwest appears to be shifting to a more arid climate, in which Dust Bowl conditions will become the new norm.” The Northeast, Midwest, and Plains have been getting more rainfall, increasing by 5-20 percent in the past 50 years. The United States is having more droughts and floods as well. In the article, it states how oceans are acidifying, meaning that the ocean has absorbed a large fraction of the carbon dioxide fossil fuel that has burned and is now pumped into the atmosphere, which slows the rate of global warming, but it affects the ocean. Due to this, the pH of surface seawater has decreased and will keep on decreasing each year. Changes like such would take tens of thousands of years to reverse.
In Fox News has no shame, by Brad Freidman, he talks about many times when people talked about global warming. He talks about different times Fox News had brought up global warming topics and the false information they had given. He talks about his one show on Fox News where they talked about how scientists were manipulating the data to exaggerate the extent of global warming, in which he replied, “they haven’t, and they aren’t.” One of the main things he talks about is the scandal of when scientists manipulating the data of global warming. Many researchers make adjustments on the data of temperature for weather purposes, but then later on want to argue about global warming statistics caused by the data adjustments. “Booker reported that Homewood subsequently discovered other similar cases where temperature recordings had been adjusted in both South America and in some locations in the Arctic, to make the average daily temperature appear to have warmed over the past 60 years, instead of cooled, which the deniers are claiming.” Brad called B.S. on his claims and was against what Booker had to say. Researchers from NOAA must make adjustments of those to raw temps, to “account for the human factors that would skew the data regardless of what happened with actual temperatures.” Brad continues to dis what everyone has to say about the data being adjusted, but instead, it is caused by man.
Brad’s main point in the article is the fact that data of world temperatures are being adjusted for weather purposes, but then we go off what we have data wise and then it causes controversy over global warming. I feel like the information given is credible because he has many things that are said by researchers and directly from Fox News, I would be able to look it up and see if it was said or not.
Brad started the article off with the given passage because he is trying to show how strong of a topic global warming actually is. I don’t quite understand the question of if I agree with the claim. The tone of this article would be serious, and negative at the same time, he doesn’t say anything positive about what Fox has to say or anybody else. It effects the reader to actually think about if the things that are said or the statistics of global warming are true or not. An example would be- “You’ll be stunned to learn that the claims by Booker, based on Homewood’s revelations — and dutifully repeated over and again by the wingnuts — are all, actually, bullshit.”
My position on this topic is that I don’t believe in global warming as much as I do the polar shift. In my lifetime I have noticed that winter has come later and stayed longer. Whereas if global warming were to take effect, then temperatures would be getting hotter, where in fact, there have been multiple findings of the temperature being colder than it has in multiple tens of years. In this article, it states that 2014 was recently “clocked as being the hottest year for the planet on record, according to every major world agency that measures such things,” is false. In 2012, there was a drought due to a heat increase and in 2014, the temperatures never got that high due to an average rainfall. I feel as if in science, you are not a loud to manipulate your data in the slightest bit, for manipulating the data can result in a failed experiment. In science, you’re only a loud to have one variable during your experiment. In the article, Politifacts explains, “local officials might move a station from a valley to a nearby hilltop. They might change the time of day when they record their measurements from sunrise to sunset. They might change the kind of thermometer they use. In the ocean, the practice once was to haul up a bucket of water. Later, the standard practice was to measure the temperature from the engine’s intake valve.” By having multiple variables, such as the place of where it was measured, the time of day it was measured, and the altitude it was measured makes the experiment irrelevant because of the fact that it has multiple variables. These are just some of the facts that I believe that has bullshitted global warming, and further supports the theory of a tectonic shift. Which would cause seasons to change, in conclusion with my hypothesis.
