There is Hope

Justin D. Hastings
AllJobopenings “Working While In School” Essay

President Obama once said, “The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.” This is what I strive for on a daily basis, to make hope happen for me and my family. I currently work two jobs and attend school online fulltime. I am a scientific recruiter for 50+ hours a week and I run my own online bookstore simultaneously. We are fighting bills and debt everyday but know the harder we work and trust, the greater the hope of a future payoff will be.
A little backstory on who I am, I was diagnosed with ADHD and emotional hypersensitivity when I was in high school and I never thought I would succeed in a college setting. To put it in normal individuals shoes, pretend you were on a hike and you felt great, the air was crisp and the birds around you were chirping but slowly your feet felt heavier and heavier. This is how I felt trying to move forward with schooling, it felt like there was cement layers gradually being put around my feet to slow me down until I no longer hard any will to complete school, instead, I started my own businesses and started to serve in youth ministry with my church.
Straight out of high school, I started a wedding video company, it was successful but I felt something was missing. I ended up selling to my business partner for a large sum of money. I have had many harebrained schemes to conquer the business world but they all seemed to fail or end because something was missing. I was lacking a understanding of how to run the business, I had the bright ideas, but would run them to the ground because I had no education. Education soon peaked its bright and shiny face at me and my wife encouraged me, at 28 years old, to go back to school. At that time I was working as a fulltime youth pastor, writing a business plan and attending school fulltime. Now I pursue my Business Administration degree with an emphasis in entrepreneurship and am looking to fulfill my dream of opening a coffee shop/bookstore devoted to benefiting those in need in the community.
Since starting school, I have taken that love for entrepreneurship and opened a very successful Amazon.com bookstore all by myself, started a 50+ hour a week position recruiting for major pharmaceutical and bio-technological companies, maintained a full school load and moved to Colorado from California to support my wife in nursing school. Needless to say, life has been crazy and that grants the need to learn great time management in the face of busy living. For a normal brained individual this life may seem hectic and even stressful, but that is the gift I have been given. I strive in stress, due to what many call a “learning disorder” or even a “behavioral problem” I am able to multi-task and move quickly. I have taken the “disability” and turned it into a superpower to multitask and make my life successful and filled with hope for a bright future.
Some of the best advice I have ever been given was from my dad. He loves to remind me that in the Bible in Jeremiah 29:11 it says ““For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” He also regularly reminds me of two quotes from Michael Jordan and Winston Churchill. The quotes say, ““I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why . . . I succeed.” Michael Jordan and the quote from Winston Churchill says “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” He also loves to remind me that there is hope though things are looking down, times are hard, stress is overwhelming, and I feel like work and school are going to crush me. His faith in God and me are what reminds me to be ambitious and strive for hope in this world.
This is how I juggle two jobs and school. I have hope. Hope that life will have a future, hope that hard work will pay off and hope that God is protecting the plans we have. We are to have hope in a hopeless world, hope for a better future and hope that struggles will subside. I will continue to pursue my dreams of becoming a strong business owner and devoted, educated husband and father.

...Modern immunology is so far advanced from what it used to be. As a result, people can live longer lives. When the Black Plague was around, it killed by the thousands. It is in human nature to want to live longer. By studying diseases and our bodies’ reactions to them, ways are created to battle them and in some cases eradicate them. With Smallpox, Edward Jenner pioneered the first vaccine using an active but less deadly disease. He discovered that people who had contracted cow pox at some point never contracted Smallpox. He then researched this theory and started injecting people with the cow pox virus. He faced many adversaries who claimed that he was wrong. They said they found cases where they had contracted Smallpox even after having cow...

Individuality In Ayn Rand's Anthem

...Those lucky enough to be different should never change. In Ayn Rand’s book Anthem, society takes place in a very far away dystopian future. Technology has destroyed mankind, hidden from the knowledge of civilians who live for their brothers, and their brothers only. They must all be the same and follow whatever orders given to them. However, Equality 7-2521 comes along and discovers the importance of individuality. An individual is more important than society because individuality creates new discoveries, like how Equality 7-2521 discovered electricity and realized that people need to express their differences in order to be happy. Equality 7-2521 discovers something from the Unmentionable times called, electricity. In Anthem it says, “So much...

Ayn Anthem Research Paper

...“How to live a Rational Life in an Irrational Society” Ayn Rand states that in a society with zero judging there could only be two people who had initiative. They could be someone who was willing to create rational and moral judgements for society or a thug who had no moral responsibilities such as a thug who was aware of how irrational the society really is. The character from her novel Anthem Equality 7-2125 would certainly agree with her as he is a person in the former group. He was right to denounce the way of his leaders in moral terms and to leave the City. On Ayn Rand’s Essay In her essay “How to live a Rational Life in an Irrational Society” Ayn Rand states that the only way to keep society rational is to judge others and be prepared to be judged yourself. In her essay Ayn Rand states, “An irrational society is a society of moral cowards—of men paralyzed by the loss of moral standards, principles and goals. But since men have to act, so long as they live, such a society is ready to be taken over by anyone willing to set its direction. The initiative can come from only two types of men: either from the man who is willing to assume the responsibility of asserting rational values—or from the thug who is not troubled by questions of responsibility.”. This is because not judging only benefits the evil overall and not the...

Biblical Worldview Essay

...Apologetics APOL 104 D27 Liberty University April 5, 2014 Worldview Assignment I. Part One: What is a worldview? A worldview is an individual person’s view of the world from their very own perspective. An individual’s worldview is based on many factors and some of them can include, how the person was raised, their religion, where they live, and the beliefs of their parents. Worldviews throughout the world are as varied as there are different personalities. II. Part Two: 1. When it comes to the Christian worldview, what is believed about the answer to the question of origin, is in the Bible in the book of Genesis. The Christian worldview about the origin of man is that God created man from the dust on the ground and he breathed life into him, this is according to Genesis 2:7. There is one answer to the question of the origin of man in the worldview of the Christian. There is another part of this question that also addresses the question of the origin of the universe in the Christian worldview. In Genesis 1:1 it is stated simply that God created the heavens and the earth in the beginning. In the Christian worldview that in fact means that God simply created the universe out of his thought and with his infinite knowledge and power. The fact that God created the universe out of nothing, lends credence to the “Big Bang” theory in the world of science. Every year scientists, astrophysicists and astronomers...

The Right Motivation In Ayn Rand's Anthem

...encourages you to go about life in the way you’re going about it? “When making the normative judgement that something is pleasing to us or that we have a reason to act in a particular way… moral motivation gives the impression to be of more significance in the apparent opposition between self-interest and morality.”In Anthem, written by Ayn Rand, Equality, the protagonist, knows that his invention will benefit humankind greatly. However, this is not his primary motivation in conducting his experiments. His primary motivation is his ego. Eightfold Path

...practice to help in living the way according to Buddhism a sin free life. I believe that what is taught in the eightfold path is similar to the Ten Commandments and other passages in the Bible. Rather it is the Bible or any other teachings the similarities in all can be helpful in teaching how to live a righteous life. The eightfold path is not in any particular order but are all used or intertwined to work together to build on self. First, Right view supports wisdom and understanding of things as they are or seeing things in its true nature within ourselves or an insight of. Christianity is similar as to knowing ourselves because we are to look within ourselves to find what is hindering us and pray to God almighty to help make changes that need to be made to better ourselves. Right intention is part of the path that cultivated wisdom. There are three parts or kinds of right intentions. The intention of renunciation (desire), the intention of good will (ill will), and the intention of harmlessness (harmfulness) so all that we are is followed by our thoughts. In Christianity our thoughts are apart of whom we are so we are to control them. For example, if I have thought about someone in a sexual way I would have already sin in my thoughts, Mark 7:20-23 says, Mark 7:20 And he said, that which cometh out of the man that defileth the man. Mark 7:21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Mark 7:22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness...

Seven Habbits of Highly Effective People

...| The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People | An Essay | | | 2/2/2014 | I was inspired by Stephen R. Covey’s, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The 7 Habits have encouraged me to rethink how I was looking at the world and it has changed how I plan to move forward in my life. Covey defines a habit as the intersection of knowledge, skill, and desire. Knowledge is the what to do and why, skill is the how to do, and desire is the motivation or want to do, “In order to make something a habit in our lives, we have to have all three”, (Covey 55). Covey describes the Maturity Continuum which moves us progressively from dependence to independence to interdependence. The 7 Habits are tools which provide an approach to the development of personal and interpersonal effectiveness. Part 1 The first three habits focus on transitioning from dependence to independence, the mastery of self. Each of us begins life as an infant. We are completely dependent upon others to care for us. “They gradually, over the ensuing months and years, we become more independent- physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially-until eventually we can essentially take care of ourselves, becoming inner-directed and self-reliant”, (Covey 57), it is in our nature to transition to independence. Wikipedia.org summarizes The 7 Habits in correlation to each phase, beginning with self-mastery. Habit 1: Be Proactive describes how to take initiative in life by understanding how our decisions are...

Individualism In Ayn Rand's Anthem

...Anthem, by Ayn Rand, is a novel that is very unique in its own ways. It shows a lot of individualism and makes the reader think of how people can just live as they are told to live and do as they are told without even knowing the outcome after they do what they are told. Also, it teaches the importance of self expression and the freedom that comes along with being unique and having the power to choose what path to take in life. The society in this novel, the word “I” is forbidden and humans refer to themselves as “we” instead of “I” to represent equality throughout society. Anything that might spark a thought of being a one of a kind person is forbidden. Children are born from parents that don't even know each other and are being taken away...
