...Gomez Professor Reilly POLS 3352 Murrs v. Wisconsin Case Brief The Murrs are a family in Wisconsin who Bought a piece of land next to a river and built on it, later they bought another piece of land that was next to the original one. When they finally gave the property to their children, the children were bared from selling the property by the government. The government claimed that according to the law, the lands on each own did not reach a net area that could be developed upon. Thus, since the lands were owned by the same person for a long time, the county joined them into one property hence reaching the net area for development. The Murrs sued St Croix county and Wisconsin for breaking the Takings clause of the fifth amendment by refusing to acknowledge the second plot of land as a separate entity. Also, the county did not offer any compensation to the family. Such cases naturally are handled using the Penn Central test. The government numerically proved that if you combine the two plots of land they would only account for half a parcel of land. This simply meant that the second plot of land could not be considered independent. They would let the build anything on the said piece of land, develop it or even sell both...

...Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras. It formed approximately 300 million years ago and then began to break apart after about 100 million years. Unlike the present Earth, much of the land mass was in the Southern Hemisphere. Pangea was fully assembled by the Early Permian Period, some 270 million years ago. It began to break apart about 200 million years ago, during the Early Jurassic Period, eventually forming the modern continents and the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. The giant ocean that surrounded the continent is known as Panthalassa. The movement of Earth's tectonic plates formed Pangaea and ultimately broke it apart. Pangaea existed during the Permian and Triassic geological time periods, which were times of great change. This therefore shows that a certain extent of tectonic activity took place 200 million years ago to form our world that we know today. The idea of Pangea fitting together in a jigsaw fashion compared to how convection currents dictate the movement of the plate boundaries it can be seen as tangible that these pieces were to fit together very easily, however certain processes of biological and possibly chemical weathering as well as erosion has caused these ‘’pieces’’ to have perhaps lost their shape, meaning they will not fit together as well in this present day. Also, another piece of evidence that would help to support Wegeners theory would be the fact that Earthworms were found in all Gondwanaland continents, meaning that they must have been transported to...

...Statistics in Business Created By: Fredrick Jay Harder Created On: March 21st, 2016 Inspired By: Qnt 275 Taught By: Merry Gallo If a business has access to reliable data then they can make decisions that will positively impact the business much easier. Without reliable data a business can not thrive because all businesses need data they can rely on to make progress in their prospective field. Luckily, there are statistics that will help to get reliable data to make such important decisions. After all, decisions are not well founded without data or the language thereof. Obtaining that data or language thereof on one's own makes resources spread further as well. Statistics is known as the language of data. This language is about gathering data, delivering the data, and understanding the data. Statistics and mathematics are very closely related as statistics is the mathematical way to analyze data and observe data. Statistics also equips those who use it with tools to foresee based on the data gathered and is useful in not only business but is also useful in science, health, and government. (Stine &Foster, 2014) After all, science, health, and government need data on a regular basis in order to make informed decisions. This is why being fluent in statistics is very recommended for almost any profession in existence. Using statistics cuts out the “gray area” or guesswork of life's information in large proportions. With statistics, it is similar to an opinionated conversation...

...things that you do every day. Well I know that one thing almost everyone does every day is eat. Eating is necessary to live, and about 99% of your food is probably coming from a farmer. According to Nelson at the American Farmland Trust farmland is necessary in society providing essential goods as well as open space, environmental protection that land markets fail to account for. C. We have been using farmland for things other than farming and it needs to stop, urban development is taking over the land which is so vital to our existence. D. Farmland is being lost way too fast. Urban development is one of the biggest reasons for this loss. We need to stop using our farmland for other things. II. Body A. The amount of land that is usable for farming is very small compared to the amount of land on the earth. Coming from the researchers at farmland.org and the American Farmland Trust is this analogy. (ppt) Consider the Earth as an apple. If it was sliced into 4 pieces, 3 of these would represent water. 1 would be the land. If you were to cut this piece in half, your new piece would represent the land that cannot be used for farming living on. This leaves 1/8 of the Earth to live on as well as grow food on. ¾ of the remaining apple has soil to poor to grow food on because of roads and buildings and soils to poor to grow food on. This leaves 1/32 of the apple that has soil that we can...

...what looks like crops are planted and that the three people may be picking crops. Wood uses many forms of visual elements in this painting. One element is the use of lines. Lines are used to create boundaries between each piece of land. The crops that are planted are used to make lines. The lines also show direction of the crops. Diagonal lines are also used to show feelings of movement over the rolling hills. The fencing of the pastures forms lines. A line also forms the horizon. Another visual element Wood uses is shapes. The primary geometric shape used in this piece is the circle. The trees and the bushes are made with circles. The house is made up of triangles and rectangles. The crops at the bottom of the painting form diamonds. The rolling hills are organic shapes because they appear to have a natural look. The three people in the painting are positive shapes because they stand out and we focus on them. The next visual element is light. Woods use of light and shadow give the piece a three-dimensional feel. The shadows that the trees are making imply that the sun is shining up in the sky. The shadows also give you a sense of depth and it makes you feel as though you are standing on the hill looking down over the farm. The main colors of the piece are greens and browns. They can be categorized as secondary colors. Wood uses different shades of green for the trees and the hills. He uses different shades of browns for the crops at the bottom of the painting. I believe...

...Student name Institution name Date Introduction Question: Is the policy of eminent domain providing for the public welfare, through the taking of privately owned property, using a rightful procedure involving due process and just compensation as it was intended to do when the policy was founded? Eminent domain is the inherent power of the government to take over a citizen's property for public use without the owner's consent. Initially, this public policy originated in the Middle Ages throughout the world. It became part of the British common law before reaching the United States where it was then illustrated in the US Constitution in 1791 (Britannica: eminent domain). The Fifth Amendment granted the federal government the right to exercise eminent domain, provided protection to individuals, and protected the property rights of citizens. Shortly after the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment made the federal guarantee of “just compensation” applicable to the states. The use of eminent domain power to promote economic development, particularly in urban centers of the United States, has become the focus of significant controversy in this present day. This is commonly done when the acquisition of property is needed for the completion of certain project. Projects intended for the public good such as highways, bridges, schools, and government buildings have been created from Eminent Domain. The policy pertains to every independent government. It requires very little...

...incorporation of firsthand experiences and family history give the reader a more personal view of the trials and tribulations of a typical Mexican family. The combination of these different writing techniques make the reader empathize with the Mexican people’s struggle, by providing a new perspective on the conflict between Mexico and the United States and its impact. Anzaldúa uses a substantial amount of background information and history to provide context for her audience. She begins by explaining that the oldest evidence of human existence in the United States, is from the ancestors of the Chicanos, who settled there in 35,000 B.C. (Anzaldúa 41). This initial piece of history is important because it shows that the ancestors of the Chicanos were the first inhabitants of the land that is now modern day Texas. This land was theirs, until whites illegally migrated there and later forced the Natives out. “Some call themselves Chicanos and see themselves as people whose true homeland is Aztlán [the U.S. Southwest]” (Anzaldúa 39). Anzaldúa informs her reader of this atrocity, to give them an alternative perspective on illegal immigration. Rather than viewing illegal immigration as people...

Some parts of the comet were left behind on each piece of land, which are now known as the 7 continents of the world. The God of Earth witnessed the change in Earth and gave life to the pieces of rocks left behind on each continent. This is how the first human beings came to be. The people that were created in Southwest America became known as the Pueblo Indians. From this point, they had the god’s blessing to form their own civilization. The god of Earth took note of their plans, and decided to help them by forming geographical landmarks, while the native tribes looked for unity among the people. This was later considered as their moral beliefs and...

...determine whether you agree with the majority opinion or the minority opinion. Explain your rationale. South Carolina's Coastal Zone Management Act required land owners near beaches to obtain permits from South Carolina Coastal Council before starting constructions. However, in 1986 Lucas purchased beach front land for $975,000. Lucas planned to build a family home on one of the lots; but before he could build the family home, in 1988 (2 years past his purchase) South Carolina’s General Assembly passed the Beachfront Management Act. The Beach Front Management Act deprived Lucas from building family home on his new land. Lucas filed a lawsuit. In his lawsuit he stated that government’s restriction on the use of his land without compensation was a taking of his property. I agree with the majority opinion that Lucas did suffer a governmental taking – Lucas was being policed by the South Carolina Coastal Council; the banning of the construction caused Lucas monetary damages and the government taking was violating Lucas’s constitutional rights such as Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments. In addition, to my belief when government declares that a property or a piece of land is viewed as nuisance – and the government by its police powers takes it from the owner for government use, thus, government regulating of the land entirely devalues the property; therefore, compensation must be paid. Government’s power of eminent domain must be restricted. Fifth Amendment protects against...
