At ACCEL Learning Center there are several leaders that play various roles in the human relations area. One of the human relations theories that is used on campus would be the path- goal theory. The path- goal theory is a theory that is from the expectancy model (Razik & Swanson, 2009). It allows leaders to be better leaders to support staff and other employees. At ACCEL the path- goal theory is used by several of the model classroom teachers. Model classroom is a program that ACCEL uses to review teachers in their present classroom to be able to reach a higher level of teaching. The model classroom program gives teachers an opportunity to reach levels with their students that is not done in other schools. The educators are reviewed by a mentor teacher and the mentor teacher shows them what is expected of them and will come observe them throughout the year to make sure they are accomplishing the required goals. Once the teacher is a model classroom recipient they will continue that for two consecutive years. Model classroom teachers are always encouraging the students and staff to strive to do better than they were the day before. The particular educators that are being spoken about utilize their time wisely and they think of others before they stop and think about themselves. Using the path- goal theory successfully a leader has to be directive, supportive, participative, and achievement oriented and use more than one style at once (Razik & Swanson, 2009). ACCEL is a school that is based on dealing with students with high behavior the behavior model would be most appropriate when describing the school in general. The students that have behavior issues are easily redirected following the behaviorist approach. This approach is able to track their behavior by their actions or what they say. Using this style will show when the student is at the baseline or when the behavior is escalating. Before the behavior begins to escalate following the behaviorist approach you will be able to redirect the student and apply all of the methods to divert from having to use a more serious method such as crisis intervention techniques (Razik & Swanson, 2009). Using the behaviorist approach with the educators is not being applied as much at ACCEL. The school does not give the employees much reinforcement or recognition. If the administrators showed more recognition to the educators it would be more model classroom representatives that focuses more on the students. Once a year the staff gets evaluated and told what they need to work on. Some staff are on satellite campuses therefore they are unable to get evaluated accordingly. If the administration would come visit more often they would know how to apply the behaviorist approach better and they would be able to know who deserves the reinforcement or recognition.
At the Learning Center one of the sources of communication would be a system like the grapevine. The administration will tell the teachers some information therefore the teacher will deliver the information that is supposed to be told to the support staff. At times if there is a teacher absent or unable to tell his/ her staff, the news will get out to other support staff and that is one of the ways the grapevine will be used.
