There has been a deficiency in the nursing practice as health care has changed and grown. Nursing has advanced significantly over the last 150 years and the days of Florence Nightingale, but nursing is still in its infancy in regards to its potential that needs to be for the changing population. The population in this United States is changing; people are living longer than ever before with complex health issues, large cultural and minority groups within this country continue to grow, and those living in rural or poverty environments all in need of more support. “Affordable Care Act”, passed in 2010, there will be an influx of patients that are entering the health care arena that have had limited access to health care. The 2010 Institute of Medicine, Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, discusses changes that need to take place in order to provide efficient care to their patients which include nursing education, changes to scope of practice to fit the training Registered Nurses (RN’s) and Advance Practice Registered Nurses (AR NP’s) gained during their

State of Advance Practice Nurse

...State of Advance Practice Paper There are many definitions of advanced practice nursing. Nursing’s Scope and Standards of Practice (ANA, 2014) defines APNs as having advanced specialized clinical knowledge and skills through master’s or doctoral education that prepares them for specialization, expansion, and advancement of practice. Specialization is concentrating or limiting one’s focus to part of the whole field of nursing. Expansion refers to the acquisition of new practice knowledge and skills, including knowledge and skills legitimizing role autonomy within areas of practice that overlap traditional boundaries of medical practice. Advancement involves both specialization and expansion and is characterized by the integration of theoretical, research-based, and practical knowledge that occurs as part of graduate education in nursing. APN is an umbrella term for the four roles mentioned earlier: clinical nurse specialist (CNS), certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA), certified nurse-midwife (CNM), and nurse practitioner (NP) (Sheer, & Wong, 2008). Each role is distinguishable from the others, but in some respects they overlap. This APN definition encompasses nurses engaged in clinical practice; it does not include nurses with advanced preparation for administration, education, or research (ANA, 2014). Only recently has the expectation arisen that APNs should receive their education within master’s or doctoral nursing programs. Although CNSs have always required master’s...

Conceptual Frameworks for Advance Practice Nursing

...Running head: WEEK TWO DISCUSSION BOARD Week Two Discussion Board May 27, 2010 Conceptual frameworks for advanced practice nursing play an integral role in the guiding of practice, formulating educational curricula, and the overall development of the specialty. The continued evolution of advanced practice nursing has seemingly sparked numerous conceptual models influencing practice. Many models share common similarities, while each maintains their own unique characteristics specific to their developers and contributors. Ann Hamric developed Hamric’s Integrative Model of Advanced Practice Nursing in 1996, that has undergone two subsequent revisions in response to research, variations in practice, and theoretical influence. The resiliency of Hamric’s Model is exemplified by its continued presence in advanced practice nursing literature (Hamric, Spross, & Hanson, 2009). Hamric’s model presents a foundational approach to advanced practice nursing that is generalizable among all specialties of advanced practice nursing. The structural basis for Hamric’s model shares many similarities with Abraham Maslow’s Theory of Self-Actualization. Hamric centralizes a foundation in education, certification, and experience that is built upon to develop central and core competencies. These competencies are patient focused and all encompassing of actions that take place in the healthcare setting. Like Maslow’s strive for self-actualization, where one must progressively...

Lodge Officer

...often looks effortless and may even be incorrectly assumed as being "easy".  We must understand that there is much work and time involved in becoming an officer with many hours of work and preparation that goes in to the work we see on the floor.  A well oiled lodge officer will not only know all of the ritual words but which direction to turn, and all of the queues he needs to know. Frequently we see new officers join the officer lineup and either drop out very shortly after or fail to make the advancement to the next chair for proficiency reasons.  It is often assumed that the lodge officer will advance to the next chair each year, however this is not the case and the next chair must be earned by showing you are proficient in the work required of you. Most lodges have practice sessions once or twice a week with at least one that you are expected to attend weekly for the practice of the ritual work.  For most members this often means putting their personal life...

Business

...(for use in the classroom only) ISSUES RELATING TO ADULT LEARNING Learning is the basic objective of all the training and development activities. If people have not learnt what they were suppose to learn from a HRD program; then the program should be called as a failure. It is, therefore, very important for HRD professionals to understand the major concepts and research findings related to learning. Learning may be defined as the process of acquiring, assimilating, and internalizing inputs for their effective and varied use when required, leading to an enhanced capability for further self monitored learning. It is any relatively permanent change in behaviour that occurs as a result of experience. The change often is an increased capability for some type of performance. Basic learning styles of the participants Every individual has a unique way of gathering, absorbing, processing and internalizing inputs for learning purpose. This constitutes an individual’s learning style. It must, however, be remembered that the learning style of an individual is neither always explicit nor enduring. An individual modifies it in light of the situations and experiences. Even in a training program, a participant may change the learning style, depending on the opportunities available for learning. It may be noted that a participant's learning style is not necessarily a measure of his/her intellect and learning abilities. It only suggests a preference for the manner in which...

Walmart

...Wal-Mart leadership became successful due to the company’s effective leadership style, their organizational structure and its culture. Wal-Mart’s organization culture is recognized to be more of bonded organization between the employer and the employee. Sam Walton, the company’s owner, shared his vision for the company with his associates and made them partners in the success of his company, after Sam died, his legacy remained the same with new management and continued to grow successfully and still remain number one in retail today, because management recognized his vision and carried it out as Sam would have done. New management did not dismantle Sam’s vision but kept the success going unlike Times Picayune, this organization lacked a successful organizational structure and endured more of procedural issues. After Times Picayune owner, Ashton Phelps Jr. retired, his vision was not carried out as he intended. After 175 years, new owner Ricky Matthews, dismantled Phelps vision and emphasized his own vision that became more procedural and steep, which caused the culture of the business to miscommunicate. Workers in this environment are more focus on pleasing the boss, instead of their work performance due to the company’s rules and policies being procedural and controlled without any flexibility. This type of culture causes employee turnovers and a bad reputation for the business. Matthews not only changed the culture of Time Picayune, but he lay off all active employees without...

Lighthouse Revenue Recognition

...Codification of Accounting Standards, a company should not recognize revenue until 1.“it has performed under the terms of the arrangement” and 2. “unless it will indeed receive and retain payment in a form that has value to the company,” (accountingresearchmanager.com) This means that the company has to perform the duty that they have agreed to in their contract and will receive a form of payment in return. The performance of the arrangement can be the delivery of goods, providing services, or providing information. Once a company performs the terms of the arrangement, the revenue is deemed as earned; however, at least part of the job must be fulfilled. In addition, the company should not recognize revenue even if their clients paid in advance to fulfillment of the agreement. Revenue is realized or realizable when “the seller receives cash or assets from the customer that is convertible into cash,” (accountingresearchmanager.com) This must occur before revenue is recognized. In the case, “Lighthouse”, the issue of how revenue should recognized for the sales of both Ship Finder devices and service arises. In this particular case, the company Lighthouse created a hardware unit which it installs in ships and provides the services for this unit. This device and service are utilized together in providing information to shipping companies on the ship location, speed, and current local weather. Lighthouse requires its customers to sign two separate contracts, one for the device...
