...Circumplex, and indicate a people-oriented, high order needs-based actions focus. An “affiliative” style is indicative of a company’s emphasis on cultivating constructive, interpersonal relationships. A “humanistic- encouraging” style encourages a people-oriented style with all members helping each other grow and develop. My company’s limiting style is “approval”, which comprises behavior such as conflict avoidance, superficial relationships, and “going along to get along”. These traits run contrary to the company’s primary styles and inhibit full potential for organizational success. My LSI survey aligns well in comparison to my company’s OCI survey. Both surveys indicate a dominant style of “affiliative”, indicating that both my company as well as myself place strong emphasis on friendly and open relationships. Comparing limiting styles show my LSI style as “achievement”, whereas my company’s OCI style is “approval”. Contrasting these traits indicates that I show a tendency to exhibit aggressive- defensive, task oriented behavior that promotes self-promoting thinking and fulfillment of security needs through task-related activities. My company’s limiting style shifts more to the passive aggressive, people-oriented thinking. This survey comparison has highlighted an area where I can focus on improving, to where my personal style and behavior can be modified to more align with that of my company. OCI SURVEY Organizational Culture...

...RUNNING HEAD: LSI Paper I am charged with the task of completing the Life Styles Inventory Survey to give a self-description of my thinking styles. The purpose of this assignment is to determine the impact that the personal styles have on my management style and to identify which one of my thinking styles may be reducing my overall effectiveness. After completing the survey, my circumplex shows that my primary thinking style is the “Conventional Style”(4 o’clock) and my backup thinking style is the “Power Style” (8 o’clock). I agree with the results of the conventional thinking style, but, I do not fully agree with the results of the power thinking style. According to the LSI results, the conventional thinking style is one that measures our inclination to act in a compliant way. Conventional thinkers worry about adhering to rules and established procedures. According to the LSI results, when we depend on on established procedures in determining how we do things, we risk losing our sense of uniqueness and individuality. I would have to agree with the results of this survey that I am a conventional thinker. As a child, my parents had very strict household rules that, simply, were not to my benefit to break. Therefore, I often abided by the rules. I think this is why I tend to do things strictly by the book. Doing things by the book gives me a sense of security in knowing that I followed the policy, in case something goes wrong. As a conventional thinker, I prefer...

According to the LSI survey taken and from the twelve given skills I think following are my primary and backup skills. 1) Competitive 2) Conventional 3) Affiliative 4) Self-Actualizing After finishing the survey and result generated the highest percentile I scored the highest is Competitive. Competitive skill is the scale that measures my way of thinking with others. Competitive skill is the most required skill for a managerial role in any company. Because the company would like to see how you handle and motivate the employees with your creative thinking style. Backup Skill:- After completing the survey and analyzing the result the backup skill that I found out is Conventional. Conventional is the skill that I think is the one of the most important in these period of time. They want to see how do you the resources that you have to get the work done...

...Organizational Behavior Dr. Barbara Vallera Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University Abstract This paper explores the Life Styles Inventory (LSI) assessment and pitfalls of the competitive and approval management styles. In this evaluation, I also examine strengths and impacts of these styles. Specifically, how they can be utilized to benefit the organization and how these styles impact the four functions of management. This paper also reviews my circumplex (a person’s personal LSI profile) and critically evaluates and explains how these styles were developed. Through the course, Management 591 (MGMT 591), Leadership and Organizational Behavior (LOB), I also reflect on goals and accomplishments that can be achieved through the analysis of these frames. Combating the Aggressive Life Style Inventory and Gaining Success in the Workplace The LSI assessment helps an individual understand themselves by measuring what motivates individual behaviors. This assessment was developed by Robert A. Cooke and J. Clayton Lafferty, copyrighted by Human Synergistics International. It takes into account one’s thoughts and self-concepts and translates it into how one behaves. It looks at how one’s thinking influences goals, relationships, leadership effectiveness, and the ability to cope with stress (“What LSI Measures”, 2014). The assessment uses 240 words or phrases to represent ways of thinking, or thinking “styles”, and shows visually how these modes of thinking translate...

Skilled Leaders are critical to the success level of any venture, both profit and non-profit. This was validated in the research Jim Collins and his team conducted for his book, Good to Great. They confirmed that the most successful organizations had skilled Transforming Leaders at the helm. (Jim Collins called them Level 5 Leaders.) Our research, however, has shown that fewer than 1 in 10 professionals (as observed in video-taped assessment sessions) have competency in the whole range of skills to Level 4 competency (scores of 7 to 8). And even fewer individuals have the abilities—Level 5 competency, scores of 9...

...PERSONAL THINKING STYLES After completion of the Life Styles Inventory Assessment, it was determined that my primary thinking style is oppositional. I ranked in the 87th percentile in this category. An oppositional person tends to disagree with others and seek attention by being critical and cynical. Some of the characteristics of an oppositional individual are asking probing questions, being argumentative, having a negative attitude, and a sarcastic sense of humor. I was actually shocked with these results, but realized the more I read the descriptions that I actually possess some of the characteristics listed. Some of the attributes of the oppositional individual that I have are asking the probing questions, looking for flaws, and sometimes having a negative attitude. These characteristics manifest in both my every day and work life. I tend to ask the questions to make sure I understand what is going on and to make sure that the decisions being made have been thought through. At the same time I am asking the questions, I am looking for the flaws, trying to figure out why the decision being made will not work or what could possibly go wrong. Both of the previous stated characteristics can lead to the portrayal of being negative. My secondary thinking style is achievement and I totally agree with this conclusion. I ranked in the 85th percentile in this area. I was surprised that this was not my primary style. The achievement style indicates attaining high quality results...

...MGMT 591 LSI Paper Life Style Inventory (LSI) November 9 Part 1 Personal Thinking Styles: Upon my completion of the LSI survey, I have identified my primary and secondary (backup) thinking styles. They are conventional and self-actualizing. My results in the conventional style of thinking have me ranked in the 90th percentile with a raw score of 22. This is my primary thinking style. The conventional thinking style describes individuals who are pretty much set in their ways of doing things. They will tend to have a fixed and unchanging daily routine which they are comfortable with as long as it does not change very much or too often. Conventional thinkers tend to conform to the general rules that are around them, they seldom dispute these rules, and they prefer to follow others orders. A conventional thinker usually does not attract much attention to themselves and will work hard at ‘staying under the radar’ in order to remain in their own comfort zone. I do have many of the qualities of a conventional thinker. So, I can agree with the results from the LSI survey as they characterize me with the conventional thinking style. Having the personality of someone who does not like to change his daily routine and who prides himself with being able to do exactly what is expected both at home and at work are just two of the...

... and what causes me to act the way that I do.” It gives an insight to one’s personality and an insight as to how we may treat others. By giving my honest opinion of several questions the results are going to give me an insight on how my thinking styles will influence my behavior as a manager and allow me to use the results for self-improvement. My results show that I Research has shown that the styles measured by the LSI are related to a number of indicators of effectiveness and success, including leadership effectiveness, management effectiveness, problem solving effectiveness, quality of interpersonal relations, salary, organizational level, individual health and well-being, and organizational culture. In my Leadership and Organizational Behavior class, I had the task of completing a Life Styles Inventory Survey to come up with a self-description of my thinking styles. The goal of this exercise is to find out how thinking styles may influence my behavior as a manager and to help me to determine how to use the results for self-improvement. After taking this inventory, my circumplex shows that my primary thinking style is affiliative (2 o’clock position) and my back up thinking style is conventional (4 o’clock position). While I can identify with the affiliative style of thinking, I do not believe the conventional thinking style is a true depiction of the way I think. Part I Personal Thinking Styles: At the 11 o’ clock position was my “primary” thinking style was...

...Michael Paine thepainer@wi.rr.com GM591 Leadership and Organizational Paper May 12, 2012 LSI Paper Personal Thinking Skills As I was going through my LSI and answering the questions, I was very surprised by my results and in some areas not so surprised. I am starting a new job, whole different career, being out of a job since February. I also am under a completely different schedule, so was transitioning my body to working a different hours than what my body is used to. So it was kind of a stressful time when I completed this, so I think that may have been part of why my results are the way they are. My LSI results will be located in the Appendix 1 section. The dependent thinking style was my primary and I was kind of surprised that this would be my highest. However, when I thought about what types of thoughts and feeling are included in this slice, I kind of agreed with it, a lot would be the life situations that are happening in my life over the past few months. This thinking style is a defensive style, having the feel that the efforts that I put into my work, family, overall life choices that they haven’t counted towards anything that I would like to achieve. I think for me personally that if I took this again, I think this wouldn’t be my primary thinking, because some parts of this can be affected by starting a new job, which I just have and am learning new things and having a whole different culture of people and procedures...

...thinking patterns and behaviors. An individual’s personal life styles greatly contributes to the role one fulfills in the workplace; from how an individual is able to communicate with fellow employees and upper management to their ability to manage situations and positions of authority. The different categories include constructive styles, passive/defensive styles, and aggressive/defensive styles; each of these categories are then broken down into subcategories which describe in further detail the main categories. These subcategories include “humanistic-encouraging, affiliative, approval, conventional, dependent, avoidance, oppositional, power, competitive, perfectionistic, achievement, and self-actualizing” (Synergistics, 2016). By completing a life styles inventory, an individual has the ability to gain insight into their personal thinking patterns and behaviors and how each of these relate to their role as a manager, their leadership style, and how effective these are in their professional life. These identified thinking patterns and behaviors can help to...

...| Life Styles Inventory | | | L. Neal | 11/1/2010 | GM591 Leadership & Organizational Behavior | CHAPTER 1 - INTRODUCTION Hello, my name is L. Neal. I was very eager to complete my LSI Survey because I was very curious what my results would be. I know how I am as an individual, and seeing the results of my survey only proves that you learn something about yourself every day. My results were quite interesting to say the least. Learning the meanings of the different life styles showed me that I have more characteristics in areas I never thought of. I hope you enjoy reading about me as much as I enjoyed learning about myself. Humanistic is when you are thoughtful, supportive of others and respectful. This was my highest score out of all the lifestyles. I know this is true because I believe in what’s best for a person. I always treat people fair and with respect. If you want people to respect you, you have to respect others. According to the LSI, I have a high level of satisfaction when it comes to working with people, building relationships and accomplishing task. I agree with this outcome because I do like a challenge and its self gratifying when I can complete such task. People always ask for my advice for certain things and I’m always willing to teach whatever is asked of me. I’m a people person and I’m very approachable. In giving people that extra push for improvement, I feel it makes me a better person and unselfish. I...

...Akema Reid Akema.Reid@gmail.com Leadership and Organizational Behavior Professor Doctor October 9, 2011 After completing the LSI assignment, I have learned a lot about myself. Per the results of the LSI, my primary thinking styles are power at percentage of 65. My back-up percentile was humanistic-encouraging at 63%. The results for my power thinking style is at a medium percentage compared to others that have taken the test. I didn’t think that power would rate as the highest percentage for me, though I did think that it would fall in the median level compared to others. I don’t see myself as using or wanting much power at my job. I don’t see that power is manifested much while I am working, but I do see it manifested in other things outside of my job. I currently dislike my job and have no desire to be a part of the company; therefore, power is not anything that is manifested through my job. While I am working, I am more of a laid back person and I don’t feel the need to contribute any ideas. When I am working with others, I try to ensure that we are all at the same level, making others feel welcome and not make others feel as if they are inferior. When working with my peers, I try to establish equality. On the other hand, when dealing with management, I tend to exercise my own power in that aspect. Unfortunately, I am working for a company that demonstrates bad management practices. Management at my job...
